I went to a gas station that had facial recognition cameras. They cited theft, but also their "legitimate interest", using website cookie language - only there was no easily apparent way to object to their legitimate interest.
What we really need is legislation. The law needs to recognise that businesses cannot just steal data from people for free for their own profits - not to mention exploiting that data against the data subject.
If you build and sell a car, you have to pay for the nuts and bolts. You can't just take them and say "well, you wouldn't know how to build a car, and they only cost a tiny, tiny amount, so we don't need to pay you."
Personal data has value. So much value, the businesses that focus on collecting it are some of the wealthiest in the world. We are all being robbed.
I want reddit to die. It had its day, and what we have now is a poor reflection on what it was and what it's supposed to be. Change is a good thing, it leads to improvement and making things better.

Screw community names, I want instance agnostic URLs for posts and comments.
Right now lemmy.ml/comment/123456 and lemmy.ml/comment/123456 are two different comments, and there is no simple way to find one comment on another instance (so you can interact with it from your logged in account). What we should have is lemmy.ml/comment/123456@lemmy.world to point to a comment made on another instance, then you can just change the instance name after the @ to find the comment (or post) on any other instance.

It can only see what's in your reddit profile under New, Top, Hot & Controversial - there will be numerous posts that are too old with only 1 or a few karma that aren't displayed in these lists. In particular, if you go through your top posts of all time, you might find some replies to these posts that you made that the script did not see.
The GDPR archive gives a full list of all the comments. What we need is a FOSS script that can use these csv files to get everything. Apparently Shreddit can take the csv files, however you have to pay $15 to use this feature.

Relay was my go to app also, something about the flow of the app UI always appealed to me more than any other apps. So much so, I continued using it even after I found the paid app included trackers (these can be blocked with Warden, a rare app scanner you can find on github).
However even if I wanted to stay on reddit I don't think I'd pay a monthly subscription.
Reddit really should be paying users, not the other way around. They steal our data for free and seek to profit from it.

Let Lemmy grow. Growth and low effort pun threads is not what killed reddit. Corporate interference and shit stirring controversy spewing algorithms in the name of "user engagement" is what drove reddit down the drain.
