Sometimes it feels Lemmy community cares a bit too much about what happens on Reddit.

Let's be honest, it is unlikely Reddit is going to die or change policy. And who cares.

I'm just happy there is much better alternative and I'm not looking back.

The guy onse famously responded to the question of how the community can ensure that vim project succeeds for the forseeable future with "keep me alive". Seems like there is our fault :(

RIP the legend. Keep Vimming.

Whether true or not, I enjoyed reading the story, so, thanks for posting

How forced an arbitration even legal. I don't get it.

I don't think Fediverse should be divided according to political compass. Just start a community on any instance and find your people. I don't think you will face any censorship if the discussion is kept civilized.

I have heard few supposedly right wing instances were defederated, but I don't agree it happened because of their agenda. The true reason was an overall 4-chan like chaos and hatread.

I've been wondering what Lemmy was like until Jun 2023. Quite cozy I guess.

Suddenly Жыве Беларусь with Belarusian national flag alongside Russian antiwar flag. Damn sometimes I really miss the community.

Nah, I banned Reddit myself. Leaving "fuck u/spez" in the leave message.

They should just move to a ready to use dictatorship like Russia and lieve happily (got conscripted and killed)

I guess for most it is just a habit to use Apps to access everything from phone. Most in-browser UIs usually suck anyway (or at least they used to).

Fedora. Cause it's the distro of choice of my employer and I'm just lazy.

i kinda doubt that there will be hordes joining Lemmy. Most who cares already migrated

This one, yes!

Two vilains still better than one. Let them fight.

Damn... flashback to Belarus 2020

I don't think it is related to the amount of times one clicked submit. Duplicated posts appear anyway.

would be curious to hear about it... I usually used web ui and only left reddit because of their approach of dealing with the community. Didn't personally suffered any inconvenience due to api shenanigans.

Apparently this is how things are. It is a shame to see how individual responsibility, very valuable European value, is treated recently by some Europeans . But it looks like this is the reality of war. Things are not normal. Hopefully they will get back to normal someday soon.

I am Belarusian, I migrated with my family away from Belarus few years back in fear of politically motivated prosecution, before even the war begun. I had to experience this kind of attitude, my bank accounts were frozen for some time and there are still limitations to get a medical insurance. Surprisingly I never ever heard a bad word from Ukrainians themselves living here. They are amazingly understanding.

That said, I believe sport is bit different. At top level the athletes are often representatives of their countries. At international level sport is neatly intertwined with politics (especially so in post-USSR countries). So... yeah... that's bad, but as Belarusian I fully support ban of Belarusian athletes from international competition, purely from respect to Ukrainian athletes, who shouldn't be forced to shake hands with them. Also I keep supporting all sorts of sanction towards Belarusian and Russian regimes, even though it can inconvenience me as a side effect.
