The jurors are heros. Let's make sure nothing happens to them.

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes. It comes with a laughable 11 modules which you tire of after a couple weeks of playing. It's badly coded and its modding support is flimsy and haphazard. The developers are unreachable and uncooperative.

Without mods, you'd put down the game after a week and forget about it completely. With mods (created for free by the community) you now get a wealth of thousands of modules, but you also need multiple extra mods to get simple basic functionality that should be in the base game. Wanna play more than 100 modules? Game crashes on startup unless you install the Tweaks mod. Wanna play just the modules that your friends enjoy? Gotta mess around with Steam workshop subscriptions for hours unless you install the Mod Selector mod. Wanna play a specific set of modules you like? Good luck getting the right RNG, unless you install the DMG mod. Wanna play more than one bomb? Needs the Multiple Bombs mod. Some modules are genuinely unplayable unless you get the Boss Module Manager mod, which in turn relies on a volunteer-run external website to be running and to be constantly updated by volunteers. Even Camera Zoom is a separate mod!!

99% of the game is made for free by volunteers, and yet it's the garbage 1% that everyone has to pay for. It's a travesty.

What IRC servers still exist that allow random people like me to just join but have interesting people and channels and not just trolls and spam?

I was actually kind of confused at first about the liquid and bar soap thing. I've used bar soap to wash my hands all my life, and for nothing else. To wash the whole body during a shower, I use liquid soap (called shower gel) and I would find bar soap unwieldy. Moral of the story: your insistence on using one vs the other is entirely cultural.

Fun fact: even washing-up liquid (dish soap) can be used to wash your hands in a pinch.

I predict that Europeans will look upon the drawn-out and comedic campaign with smug disdain and self-satisfaction... and proceed to explain away their own increased support for right-wing nationalism and fascism. One day, we will all wake up and realize that we dun goofed but it's too late.

Almost all dinosaur-centric film/TV of the 90s-2000s imply (or state outright) that the dinosaurs are now extinct. As a result, this remains a deeply held and ubiquitously perpetuated misconception. Paleontologists have suspected since the 70s, and known for sure since at least the 2000s, that the avian theropod dinosaurs survived and became modern-day birds. Therefore, birds are dinosaurs. Wikipedia is pretty clear on this.

I've had my share of conversations with people who apparently don't want this to be true and somehow defend the misconception like it's a religious dogma. Let's see how it goes here.

Even in the 2000s I never understood that fascination for uptime and how it has somehow come to be seen as a badge of honor. What's the purpose of bragging with how much power you're wasting?

This obviously assumes that you know exactly what metadata you want to eliminate and how to view it.

The OP’s whole point of asking is that they don't know the former.

That is assuming that she's not sharing the name voluntarily. It's not a GDPR violation to offer such a service if it's opt-in.

You severely misunderstood the purpose of this community...

Anyone else thought the headline (“bloodbath”) was saying there were actual deaths and that this hypersensationalistic reporting is irresponsible?

Because without it, the DOJ would have no control over you, duh

The oppressive existential threat you reference doesn't need to exist for the universe to be a dark forest universe. It's enough for every sufficiently advanced civilization to realize that such a threat could exist and remain quiet and hidden just in case.

Pants vs. Zombies: a tower defence game where a clothing shop keeper must protect their property from a zombie apocalypse by throwing jeans, khakis, capris, shorts etc. at them.

Because it puts a considerable strain on Kbin’s servers, because there is a lot of content to crawl.

I suspect (hope, even) that if Kbin runs on beefier hardware some time in the future, crawling can be enabled. However, since Kbin is completely free and devoid of ads, we would probably need to start a donation drive to make that happen.

That would be easier for Reddit to just undo. It's more effective to just not moderate at all and show Reddit what happens when anyone can post anything.

Keep Taking and Nobody Explodes: steal as much as you can before the bomb detonates.

Another related misconception is that the pterodactyl is a dinosaur. In fact, it is a pterosaur which is a separate clade from the dinosaurs. Unlike the dinosaurs, the pterosaurs really are extinct. When science videos refer to “the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs” they should really say “pterosaurs” instead, it would be more educational on multiple levels.

I think the course of action is clear. Ban it from tournaments/official events. Since I'm not in the LoL scene I don't know if that might already be the case. Now, regular players will know that playing with this enhanced hardware will disqualify them from tournament play anyway. So now you simply create two modes of gameplay: tournament-legal, and casual. People who aren't aspiring to play in a tournament will play the casual game and it'll be acceptable there to use enhanced hardware. People who wish to play with people using tournament-legal hardware will play in the tournament-legal mode. There is little to no incentive to cheat in the tournament-legal game because you won't be able to cheat your way into an actual tournament that way.

I assume that banning all robocalls requires new legislation, whereas the regulation mentioned here didn't.

I bought a cheap ring light. I look a lot better on webcam now even when it's dark outside. Don't know yet if I'll be making YouTube videos any time soon, but I'm definitely a step closer now.

This particular quote doesn't even stand out. He really does sound like this. This is quite typical.

Little nitpick, just to help people find it if they’re curious — it’s called ActivityPub.

I wish to live in a society in which this question is a moot point. Creators should have the freedom to create without having to worry about the goodwill of their audience, or worse, marketing strategies. Fans should have the freedom to access art without having to worry about the well-being of the creator, or worse, suffering guilt. Anything that is not aimed at creating and maintaining this state of being is inhumane.

This far from Klingon space?

I don't expect him to come up with anything new. He'll just repeat the same old things. Biden is on a witch hunt against him and the court system is corrupt and all that. He's found his favorite tune I think

It can still easily take hours if it's a whole movie you're copying and you're transcoding it into a more space-efficient codec.

Genuine question: Does that deserve a shadow ban though?

As a fan of the LucasArts point-and-click adventure games of the 80s-90s, it would be remiss of me not to mention that Day of the Tentacle, the sequel to Maniac Mansion (their first adventure game ever), actually contains Maniac Mansion as a minigame.

I don't think anyone's saying that you're to blame. It's just that you might be persuaded to help clean up this mess.

It means “good”, “agreeable” or “desirable”. It's modern slang so I don't blame you.

Just for completeness, “ngl” stands for “not gonna lie” and means something akin to “in my opinion” or “to be honest”.

the sky was clear for about an hour before totality, and then about 15 minutes before, a big dark cloud came in and ruined it.

Yup, that was exactly my experience too (in northern France in August 1999).

Are you writing like this to set yourself apart from AI/LLMs?

Because you'll be investing in, and therefore helping that company. Only a small fraction of the company's profit is going to reach you. You'll be part of the problem with capitalism.

Oh boy, this is such an awesome story. Thank you for sticking it up to the abusive manager and entertaining us with the result.

Unfortunately I didn't have the guts to do this. I used to work at a place where everything was fine until a new line manager was installed who moved me to a different desk in another building. That desk was right next to the server room, which was noisy with a constant low-pitched grumbling. I was not able to think or concentrate in that environment, so I would frequently take my laptop to another floor and do my work there. The manager was not happy about that and demanded that I should return to my assigned desk and stay there. I told him it would mean I wouldn't be able to accomplish any work and he said something on the lines of “I don't care”. I should have taken him up on that; I should have stopped working entirely and just browsed the web all day until he gets wind of it and finally admits that he does care. But I was too cowardly to dare. I continued to defy him by spending most of my time at the “wrong” desk though.

Although I did use a 3rd-party app (RIF), I agree with you. I had heard about the Fediverse for some time but have never had the impetus to actually browse around and take a look until Reddit declared imminent enshittification.

What's weird is that you can still use ad blockers just fine while you're logged out. So I just open the videos in a private browsing tab to watch them, but in a regular tab to rate or comment.
