Ironically, defending arguments using scientific studies and experiments, but not being able to think critically about the methodology used or what the results mean. Too often people will cite scientific literature based off the title and MAYBE skim it. Trying to have a discussion with them will usually result in them calling you anti-science.

A good example is the pseudo-scientific belief common within incel circles that women can store and absorb dna from past sexual partners and that their children can then have more than one genetic father (an excuse to shame sexually active women while fear mongering about cuckoldry). If you track down the source the study actually explicitly explains exactly why this isn't the case.

A huge annoyance was that there was already subs for asking sex questions but people found it easier to karma farm in the main ones so they were barely used. Hopefully without karma here that will be avoided.

not a 90s kid but it feels similar to the early 2000s internet to me

Its so frustrating when I see other minorities use that argument because their suicide statistics are also typically higher! That's the nature of oppression.

I've been meaning to start a music collection for a bunch of old goth music from small bands that risks being lost to time. Thanks for this post I'm gonna get my ass moving on it.

I feel conflicted about it because its definitely more accessible, especially to those with disabilities like epilepsy now.

fuck yes, I wish them the best. Working at these places has been an absolute nightmare especially since covid, dealing with abusive fuckheads for so little pay and almost no protection.

I found the best way not to get to hopeless about these things and be able to envision a future without the unsustainable extravagances is to try, at least for a small while to go without. It makes a better future seem more concrete and possible.

For example look into preserving your food without plastic and try it yourself a couple times, make your own jam, pickles and ferments at least once. Try out eating only what's in season and relatively local if you have the means to do so. A lot of these things are far less intimidating then they seem at first glance. I singles out home preservation because it actually has a pretty low barrier to entry.

Then you realize that if you could do it as an individual, how easy would it be if it was the norm and others helped out?

I'd hope they work but I've seen too many "former" nazis get criticized for still holding some terrible views then immediately throw a tantrum and run back to the far-right because they don't actually want to take accountability they want to get coddled by the same minorities they hurt and be told how clever and brave they are for no longer being bigots.

Wow that's way better than I expected. Guess it makes sense Germany would take that sort of thing more seriously.

Fascinated by this take honestly. What does this mean?

for some reason indie games still seem to have demos semi-often, especially if you check their itch.io pages.

Protestors generally move for emergency vehicles and drivers who call out to them and say they have an emergency themselves.

Also autistic people can struggle with sarcasm especially over text.

Your probably seeing more anti-protest sentiment there because pro-protesters are not on the site now to defend themselves, were all on lemmy/kbin or taking a break from social media.

I made it a lemming. (lets hope this uploads right 🤞)
