I moved from mullvad when they dropped port forwarding and moved to ivpn only now to find they have dropped it to.

I think I will hang fire a little while now and see how things play out before having the rug pulled again. Is there going to come a time when none them offer port forwarding?

Always over ear headphones I don't get on with earbuds etc they hurt my ears and I think music is something that shouldn't be imposed on others so headphones it is

Not everything indexed by a search engine is public domain that's not how copyright works.

There's plenty that actually is in the public domain but I guess scraping the web is a lot easier for these people

And mastodon users who seem to be the most vocal of fediverse users on this no issue can already block by domain without federation or de federation needing to be mentioned.

Meta don't need to federate to get your data either. So I have to wonder why we have so many posts all saying the same thing attempting to rile users up.

Personally I don't care either way if meta/threads fails or succeeds I won't be using it and I won't be following any of their users. I would much rather be reading positive things about what people are doing in the fediverse than doom and gloom

I had problems getting this to work on several of the larger mastodon instances when I've tried it previously. I ended up moving to a completely different mastodon instance and it just worked as described

Yeah but that's a user going looking for racist memes from racist uncle. As default they wouldn't show up unless you followed them but I guess that's the same for any social media.

I think it's important to realise that meta is going to roll out threads federation at some point however it hasn't done it yet and as level headed people we need to wait until that happens and how it looks rather than shooting our own foot off before someone breaks into our home because we've been riled up by basically the same posts worded slightly differently over and over.

If you have no skill at all in IT why are you contemplating spinning up a Lemmy instance?

The first Lemmy instance I joined was setup by someone like that, lasted two days then fell over.

Both my knees need replacing and my left hip is shot at too I have a shower seat so that I can shower when they hurt. I do find it's relaxing and many a time I've been close to falling asleep
