Feeling like shit for a shorter amount of time knowing I did the right thing, far outweighs the longer feeling of guilt for not speaking up. At least when you say something, it stops there, and you don’t go down the mindfuck of “what if”.

What kind of hell-scape-reality-tv-show-fuckfest dimension have I entered, when a candidate for the Presidential election is being judged, by a fucking laugh?

A laugh?

This is really bottom of the barrel, petty, childhood shit.

The sad thing is, I know there will be people that don’t vote for Harris her because of her laugh. And for every person that doesn’t turn up to the voting stations and vote because of whatever reason they have… remember that there are people that WILL turn up to the polls and believe your country should be run by a misogynistic, racist, uneducated convicted felon…

but hey… at least he doesn’t laugh.

I genuinely asking for some education on Brexit, because I personally thought, and still think it was a terrible decision for the nation, but I am hoping to get a better understanding from real people and not just read articles. I know I can research it, but would like to hear personal opinions/thoughts/etc….

I am a UK citizen, but I was living my teen and mid adult life in Australia. I didn’t get to vote on Brexit as I was not residing on the country at the time, and never thought I would return. Circumstances have changed, and I have now moved back to the UK at the beginning of the year, so I’m in the thick of the Brexit mess now. I can’t comment on what life was like before Brexit, but I am now a citizen of its consequences.

From my limited understanding, and what I really need clarification and advice on is;

Brexit was a campaign point that David Cameron ran on for election. When he won, he called the referendum, but he was opposed to it. Meanwhile, the Brexit campaign was in full swing with lots of misinformation, but Cameron only decided to rally hard in the leading three months up to the vote, failing to properly educate and explain the deal to the public.

The vote was close. Somewhere in the 52%/48%

Cameron stood down

Brexit happened, finalising at the end of 2020

I know there’s a lot of nuance, and I know I’m missing a lot of major information, but is my understanding the very basic gist of what happened?

Thanks for any response

I love “the wire” scene on picking a power tool.

“Yeah. Cordless'll do that. You might want to consider the powder-actuated tool. The Hilti DX460MX or the Simpson PTP. These two are my Cadillacs. Everything else on this board is second best, sorry to say. Are you contracting or just doing some work around the house?”

The scary thing is that I’m 100% sure I get the reference, without ever seeing the reference. I’m going to nope the fuck outta here…

“When you do things right, people won’t be sure you’ve done anything at all”. -God (futurama)

This little quote helps make me thorough in my work

I believe you when you say you’re not anorexic, or ever had anorexia, but as a 43 year old man, who is 185cm tall, my healthy range is 63-86 kilos.

I am 82 kilos give or take a meal, and if I lost 15 kilos I would be very, very slender, and that would still keep me well in the “healthy” range.

What I’m saying is the healthy range, to me at least, should be taken with a pinch of salt, and it’s shithouse that your diagnosis has vexed you for over ten years.

I wonder if the declining user count is due to the influx of people trying to get on board, but with such a surge systems fell over. It’s good to see server count/comments and posts on the increase… that shows to me that people are starting to come. It’s the wild frontier days in terms of the mass migration of a lot of people… there will be a learning curve for people to understand, change habits, get used to the “new life on mars” so to speak… but I feel that it will happen. It’s really refreshing to be part of the budding beginnings of what hopefully becomes a new front page of the internet.

It’s impressive from my bystander perspective of how quickly people mobilise, and communities can work together to get something that feels similar to what life was like before the mass migration. It is also refreshing for my brain from the doom and despair of the world to be part of a small group (mainly by lurking) and watching things forge ahead.

There is a great Futurama episode that visualises this. The Late Philip J. Fry - Futurama S06E07

ChatGPT has entered the teenage years.

Thank you for comment. These points you mention really illustrate the absolute clusterfuck it has become.

Annoyingly, I believe in democracy and can’t get angry that it happened. It went to the people. The people voted. But damn it was a joke from the beginning, full of lies and deception. Sadly the UK citizens are suffering from this, but hopefully things get better sooner. I’ll always be the eternal optimist.

Wefwef is working well for me on iPad. I was used to using Apollo to browse reddit, so this has been a godsend. I’m starting to feel more comfortable with using Lemmy a bit more as I’m figuring out what is going on! I hope that the youthfulness of lemmy (to me anyway) is a nice filter from the overwhelmingness of reddit… the downside is that it feels very niche so far, but as adoption becomes more apparent, it will be a budding new “front page” for me.

But if you’re an apollo user, I’d suggest maybe looking at wefwef, and use that to interact with lemmy.

As someone who has been taking a cocktail of all sorts of shit for the past three years after a spinal injury, just don’t take any other NSAID (voltaren/ibuprofen) with Naproxen. Codeine and paracetamol are okay, just no two NSAIDS if you can because it will will probably make your tummy a very sad place. (Bleeding etc)

But also, don’t listen to a strangers medical advice on a website… but keep telling your brain to STFU.. you got this fellow broken buddy! Hope you have a really fast recovery

What an amazing catalogue of games they made!

Fuck cancer

Thank you for the article. The more I learn about it, the more fucked up it truly is. I had a basic understanding of bad it was from a simple perspective, but the more you learn, the more messed up it becomes. I really hope there is something good to come from how monumentally messed up the situation is.

I’m getting used to GDPR regulations in my line of work I haven’t had to deal with… primarily with how my industry uses AI transcription for media. We have to be very careful with which transcription services that reside outside of the UK are used. so if for example, we use an S3 based transcription service in the cloud that is based in France, we might come into issues, even though they might be GDPR compliant. It’s all a bit of a mess, but once you know what to do it is okay, but to cut through the red tape to get an answer can be laborious because so many people need to agree to the request

That’s just one little thing, out of hundreds of impactful changes because of Brexit. It really was a ballsup

I found “No Tourists” a wonderful homage to their first album “Experience”. It had old, old school rave vibes to it that, but with a current feel.

Andy C’s remix of firestarter is great too. Worth a listen if you like hard drum and bass with a prodigy vibe.

It sure is torture. Your mind can be it’s own worst enemy sometimes. It has taken me many years to learn how to love myself and just release my grip a little onto whatever is holding me back. By no ways am I able to just let it go, but with time I have at least started to realise that I can let things go more easily. I know I sound old when I say that too, but I guess that’s the whole journey we all go through. It all happens at the right time.

Oddly, the long service leave varies from state to state/territory. One state gives 6 weeks at 7 years, another gives 12 weeks at 10 years.

We moved country earlier this year, and my wife misses “dim sims”. Truely unique

Here’s the thing… you said “a jackdoor is a crow.”

My only bit of rational input to counter act your brain, is that: you got the job, not someone else. You’re the winner, and you can do it. New jobs are fucked… so stressful… so much doubt… so much anxiety… but you got it for a reason. You had something that no one else had.

Listen to a stranger pump you up as much as you listen to your brain. Whatever your job is, it will be second nature in no time.

Nice beaver

I had typewriter classes back then!!! Homework came on “photocopies” from a handcranked machine that had a lot of rollers from memory. I have no idea what it was, but it was witchcraft!

Edit: I looked it up for curiosity sake, and the “witchcraft” machine might have been called a mimeograph.

The big Mac scale was made obsolete by the apple scale.. which is superseded by the sex scale… Which actually makes sense, because you get a good dataset from a wide community of users… it’s not limited to people who eat McDonald’s or buy apple products. Inherently, “sex” or sexually focused material is a commodity that interests a broader community.

That’s why you’re a nunamaker

As an Australian transplant in London recently…. I can just image your UZEL, congestion charge and petrol bill would be like now

This is rad! Thanks for sharing that… I have now passed it on to a group of friends who will get a kick outta it

I got excited when we got a math-coprocessor for our 386 33MHz. I tried my hardest to get a sound blaster card so I didn’t have to use PC speaker to play games (namely TFX), but it was deemed too expensive for little reward.

I’m confused a little by the LLM’s and datasets here.

OpenAI and Reddit have their partnership for training, so I would have assumed the pizza glue answer would have come from an OpenAI result, but Google doesn’t use OpenAI. How did Google give an answer that was clearly scraped from Reddit?

Thank you for the link. I didn’t realise that Google had a deal with Reddit as well, which explains why it was clearly indexed from Reddit.

I agree that AI doesn’t have a clue what an accurate response is. It’s just not sentient enough to differentiate between shitposting and fact. I also totally agree that an answer given from a search result HAS to be accurate, and we’re heading down a path of a misinformation super highway if LLMs are trained on incorrect data.

Bold. I like it, and I am you, just in another body… but bold comment. Let’s see how it fares

I fear that, sadly, you won’t have to feel sorry for Navalny’s wife and children for too much longer.
