My friend has so far fried 4 or 5 steamdecks, ROG Ally and two power banks before he took my advice to buy a type c cable tester and to stop using any charger that didn't come with the device until he could test them.

Turned out it was a damaged cable, I think it was a CC line was no longer working.

I've had a couple of cheaper Chinese type c and usb A multi port chargers fail; I manage to fry like 3 sex toys before I realised the type A ports were outputting 12v, and at some point something went wrong and the type c fried my phone (which I guess is on me for continuing to use the charger after the issue with the type A ports)

Something semi ambient, preferably without lyrics: Tycho, Bonobo, Nujabes

Are you meaning because people are excited about "fusion" being a possible future energy source, whereas when they here "nuclear" their minds immediately go to weapons and fission accidents and pollution?

Researching this doesn't prevent renewables being researched or rolled out? I think the nuclear scientists developing this might be better researching this as opposed to researching fission reactors or researching renewables as this is likely their area of expertise.

Fusion is a long shot but if it was achieved it would be world changing (hopefully for the better)

Personally this has been the most feature rich/open source one I could find, and it's what I ended up going for, there's an opensource app store, direct integration with gadgetbridge, a decent always on display much like the amazfit bip S, which also means a long battery life.

Recently it's been Obtanium, basically it allows you to add apps which are hosted on GitHub/other app sources which don't have auto updating, and have them automatically check and offer to update!

It's been really useful for Lemmy clients (liftoff/Jerboa)/any android apps from:

GitHub

GitLab

Codeberg

F-Droid

IzzyOnDroid

Mullvad

Signal

SourceForge

SourceHut

APKMirror (Track-Only) APKPure

Third Party F-Droid Repos

Jenkins Jobs

Steam

Telegram App

VLC

Neutron Code

Alcohol is generally well tolerated in reasonable quantities, the common ink cap mushroom is edible, but if eaten alongside alcohol it becomes poisonous

This is one that seriously gets me as to why we don't do this more, it would make so much sense. Obvious benefits are power generation, but also when you consider, it would significantly reduce how scorching hot large carparks get in the sun, depending on the style of the solar canopy being built it could also massively reduce the amount of water flow onto the ground reducing some wear on the tarmac in addition to some hazards.

Also for places like the UK where we typically don't have huge amounts/extended periods of snow, as long as the canopy is sufficiently designed for the additional weight, you could ameliorate the need to salt the car parks, once again increasing the life of the tarmac.

It would also keep people's cars much cooler, in the sun, and make things generally a lot cooler below the canopy.

If you left them with their batteries empty then the batteries are likely actually dead.

If you're going to leave a device untouched for an extended period, make sure the battery is atleast 50% or more full before doing so.

I find it interesting how it appeared clear in 2016 US election that Reddit for example was being a target of Russian interference, (alongside other places like Facebook and Britain during Brexit), even with Russia in a weakened state China appears to have seen what was being done as valuable and taken up the task

The playbook always seems to be to stoke wedge issues, including funding groups on both sides of the political isle; funding the NRA and BLM seems to be two of the most common examples. The reality being that the amount of disruption and destabilisation that is achieved, it must be that these governments must see it as good value for their money.

Outta curiosity, how is fusion viable for bomb research? (Ignoring the fact that the world's current nuclear arsenal is already incredibly powerful, and that 100mega ton bombs have been designed and 50Mton bombs have been tested)

Edit: thank you to all for providing additional context, I see your point regarding more research is valuable for both weapons and energy research, though to say definitively that it is used for weapons research is neither here nor there.

They're explicitly not sending out review codes until launch suggesting that it's likely a bad game, but also means they're likely just going to try and make their money with unrefundable day 1 sales on Playstation/Xbox store

Grossly gilded gorilla grapple?

Idk how true that is, it'll be highly dependent on what you're trying to dissolve.

This sounds to me more like the advice I've heard for using isopropyl for sterilizing equipment and surfaces, its more to do with how quickly the pure stuff evaporates. Evaporate too quickly and it doesn't sterilize, whereas 70% is best of both worlds.

You often have to have a liscence to operate radio equipment of that type, which required you to be certified, the person that would certify him is 270km away

How about you fuck off with your spam advertising?

To freak us out when we're a little bit too high...

They're a spammer trying to advertise their key selling business/scam, honestly fucking laughable that they post in piracy.

Butternut squash soup is awful without any spices and spices are too strong to be ingested by themselves but together it's one of the best soups.

Look into vortioxetine, it's not quite an SSRI but a multimodal antidepressant with a similar safety profile as SSRIs, it basically functions like an SSRI but is rather clear headed as opposed to the slight fog that traditional SSRIs induce. Generally less anxious with it than I was with sertraline.

Other aspects are, vape your weed, don't smoke - it's sooo much cheaper and healthier.

Cut out tobacco, and try reducing caffiene, if applicable

It's also useful for other addiction treatment for things like meth, etc. IIRC it can also be used to cycle with ADHD meds to reduce tolerance, (though if taken with them, you don't get any benefit from the ADHD med).

NAC is also useful for things like COPD, and weirdly is a pretty great chelation agent for heavy metals and I want to say is also used for paracetamol overdose.

Semi-related: is there a nootropic/drugnerds community on Lemmy yet?

Not who you asked but 100% use a narrow heat gun, no question; it saves so much time alongside not accidentally bringing connectors

I believe terraria has migrated to wiki.gg

I mean those statements seem like they're in contradiction of each other; if attention spans are lower (which I don't disagree with) then people are more likely to debate/discuss a wider range of topics though perhaps in less detail.

This doesn't necessarily mean collectively people will be able to hold onto these points to bring about effective change, though it doesn't preclude it either.

I kind of agree with other person who said it's basically just antidepressants... though I've shyed away from the one that made me deeply content (yet somewhat dysfunctional) in exchange for one that leaves me more functional in exchange for a bit more (healthy) strife.

I'd be quite curious of a world where everyone is on universally functioning antidepressants.

Is this society a functioning dystopia or a dysfunctional utopia?

Also OP have you ever played the video game 'We Happy Few', a key feature of the world is that everyone takes a mild psychedelic called Joy to stop them from remembering the past.

Another story that I seem to recall using a similar plot point is Brave New World and their drug Soma (IIRC)

Honestly even calling it CrackedPipe would be better than straight up crackpipe, lmao

I'm envisioning the possible reverse scenario where you get someone wanting some crack and won't take "Uhhh, I was just talking about a video game thing" as an answer

Did you read the description of the book the guy linked?

This is an objective biographical study of Crowley written by someone who lived and worked intimately with him. Dr. Regardie observed "The Great Beast" at close quarters while serving as his personal secretary. The Eye in the Triangle was written many years later, after long contemplation. Regardie combines the psychological insight afforded by his professional training as a Reichian analyst with his grasp of Crowley's magical personality.

It's likely that the passage wasn't written by Crowley himself, so a source like the one linked may be useful.

Also Libgen if you'd rather download the book and ctrl+f the passage you're looking for

Ahh, if so that is a rather awful design choice

Quite literally self 'Annihilation', I think the shimmer itself is more analogous to cancer (continuously expanding, with random distorted outcomes, most of which are agressive towards anything untainted by the shimmer), but fundamentally each of the characters are there for their own different reasons for self-destruction with the hopes that it benefits others, as they effectively know it's a suicide mission).

The bit that I cannot recall if it was explained is why did the special ops guy go if he had a loving wife at home; what was his reason for self destruction?

Banana milk is odd, both loved and hated it as a kid, and nowadays something about it makes me feel really ill (even when accounting for lactose intolerance), yet I love the banana from banana and prawn sweets.

In a similar vein hotdogs make me feel like death, like doubled over from stomach cramps

I'm still salty they removed the base building from BD/SP, it made the underground feel more personal/less grindy than what we got (and the fact that they didn't include the platinum e extra content in the remakes)

Surely when it branches out?

I'd suggest using a VPN, if you're in a first works country, basically torrenting can be recorded by your ISP/movie studios etc, whereas streaming typically won't be

Most VPNs typically will have a desktop app (if using windows) that you can use to make sure it's on and functional etc (and can even force apps to not be able to torrent when its turned off)

If you live in a 3rd world country don't worry about the VPN

Beyond that, what you want is in terms of simplicity is something like Stremio with the torrentio add-on installed, this will allow Stremio to find torrents for whatever you want to watch, you can select quality, language, etc with it. It'll work for film and TV.

Install Stremio and then install Torrentio

You can download the apk from the website below: Apk here: https://www.stremio.com/downloads Add-on for Stremio here: https://torrentio.strem.fun/

I have no disagreement with your assertion, aside from the neglected aspect of in terms of energy in Vs energy out; the research is likely to help inform nuclear weapons design, yet if they are able to achieve more energy out than in (3mj out Vs 2mj in (though of course they required 300mj to run the lasers to produce this reaction)) then they are providing important data that may help inform different future designs of power generating fusion reactors, this is something that current other designs don't appear to have achieved afaik.

I doubt they will ever really use this style as a functional form of power generation, but if what they learn from the research allows eventually for a longer functioning fusion reaction that has an overall positive energy output, then it may be rather valuable.

There's also something deeply unsettling about the smell of O3 in any concentration where you can truly smell it, not like getting punched in the lungs that ammonia bicarbonate is, and less irritating than than NOx compounds, but the almost sweet and sickly pleasant smell to it carries a sense of dread.

Speaking of which NOx is another good one; N2 is (essentially) inert and makes up most of our atmosphere, O2 has already been explained, but run a high frequency (white) electric arc in our atmosphere and you cause the N2 and O2 to combine in varying quantities producing NOx compounds.

NOx compounds are effectively gaseous nitric acid, it has a brown/red colour, and on constant with water it forms nitric acid. It doesn't matter whether that water is in a beaker with the NOx being bubbled through it, or the water that exists in your sinuses, lungs and eyes.

You lose your sense of smell pretty quickly when exposed to it and concentrations can build up quicker than you expected, if you've been overexposed to it, you'll wake up the next day or even a few hours later, feeling like you've got the worst sore throat in your life, like someone stamped on your throat then tried to scrape it clean... assuming you do wake up.

1/10 do not recommend.

Vyvanse and Elvanse are identical medications (Lisdexamfetamine), just under different names for UK and American (and possibly other places)

And yet somehow wholeheartedly American...

A short story about this from the same Czech author who (IIRC) gave us the concept and word 'robot'.

I'm going to take a slightly different approach of what productivety means here; for me it's literally just making my things in my life less time consuming, easier to access and return to.

With that in mind, I use Google photos to automatically back up my photos, this could be anything from wiring diagrams, patio brick layouts, a quote in a book, to a mushroom I'm wanting to identify.

I use the app plantnet if I'm wanting to identify a plant.

I use the app seeker to download music from soulseek

I upload any research papers/books downloaded from scihub/libgen to gdrive for easier access in the future.

This is of course ignoring all of the notes/timers/reminders I use my phone for as well
