Was this on Reddit? I know there are some communities there that actively reward users with upvotes for ragebaitey content.

You can find servers based on Threads defederation through this site. Since you don't want anything to do with Threads, I suggest filtering by 'blocked' and 'Fedipact' I'm not sure what the difference is between the two is though, so I'd appreciate if someone would explain.

I can get people being cautious about for-profits trying to monetize user data, but trying to ruin this guy's life over it, regardless of whether or not he was actually trying to make money from their data, is just sick. Anyone who thinks this is an acceptable method of protest is fucked up in the head.

Ah, I didn't look at the dates very closely, thanks for clarifying. I didn't lose my smell after having covid, but I know others did, and I'd honestly forgotten about that symptom until you mentioned it. (Edit: it was actually @SmoochyPit@beehaw.org who mentioned that. Sorry. It's been a long day ...

Yeah, just added a cw for the comments upon someone else's advice. I only skimmed a few, and I thought they were satire before I posted it. It's always concerning when something you think is satire is really serious...

I tried to get it to write a fanfiction about that camera falling in love with my sister's GoPro, but it didn't work. Evidently, this feature is only on the mobile app 😑 And I ain't downloading it. An article about it from CNBC

So I'm guessing a competing company bought a bunch of bad reviews at the same time. But how did the second person put it in a graph? Is he really that passionate about protecting Yankee Candle from slander, or are those review reliability things more advanced than I thought...?

My attempt at translating this question to regular English: Are extremist feminist females "ugly" because they don't wear makeup because of patriarchy and are "so feminist"? (Cut out some parts I thought were redundant)

Is Holly Horny meant to refer to a Sonic character or some other character famous for being flanderized?

That's a really good site too, though I suggest using fedipact.veganism.social if you're specifically interested in which instances are defederated from Threads. Some instances have hidden blocklists and won't show if they have defederated Threads if you search through defed.xyz.

For example: You can only see that retro.pizza and masto.ai have hidden blocklists if you look through defed.xyz. However, if you look on fedipact.veganism.social, you can see that retro.pizza has joined the Fedipact against Threads, while masto.ai is fully federated with them.

I know that Peertube doesn't have any built-in monetization right now, so they would probably be relying on viewer charity to make money on some platforms.

I see now, thank you. I was just wondering. Now that I look a little more at the 'Title' posts as examples for others to look at, the more I see that it's usually for stuff that's hard to title without spoiling the content of the post (e.g. typing out the entire text of a meme would be really annoying)

Oh...god I sprained my brain rereading it three times trying to reinterpret the last part. But yeah, the last part does seem to be asking if they are ugly and don't use makeup because they are feminists. I thought he was just adding extra words to intentionally confuse people.

Revised version: Are extremist feminist females “ugly” because they don’t wear makeup because of patriarchy, or are they feminists and don't wear makeup because they are ugly?

For me, I've gotta say "Machine Messiah", by Yes. It's one of the longest, and most interesting songs I've heard. Most songs have just one "mood" explored in them, but this one shifts from joyous to melancholy and back multiple times, and does so perfectly. Plus, I'm very nostalgic about it since it was one of my favorite songs as a child. Drama was the one of the first two albums I bought as a kid, almost entirely because that one song was on it. (Also--is that a Sonic pfp, op? A person of culture, I see 😉)

Hm...supposing I'm a man...it would depend on how you'd define "extreme". If she were the "kill all men/men are useless" type that you occassionally stumble across on Twitter, or thinks that women who are more feminine are undeserving of respect, I would say hard pass. But some might define extreme feminists of ones who just want basic rights, but are very vocal about them, like to have an abortion when the fetus isn't that developed, or, hell, not to get arrested for having a miscarriage. Or get paid/longer maternity leave (mostly opposed by people who underestimate the difficulty of childcare). Depends on how far right the individual judging leans. For that second type, I may accept.

That sounds like it could be a plausible answer, so I looked for some posts called "Title" (or some variation), but both the users I happened to find who did this have a Lemmy site as their home instance.

  • Title OP's instance: iusearchlinux.fyi
  • title OP's instance: lemmy.world

So there must be another reason. I also wasn't aware that your posts from Mastodon could federate to Lemmy. I thought the two platforms were incompatible, since here all content has to fit into a specific community, but there you have to use hashtags, which don't seem to correlate to any specific Lemmy communites (though I've only lurked on a few Mastodon instances; I don't have an account)

By "beside they being man or woman", do you mean would I marry someone as long as they were an extreme feminist regardless of my own sexual preferences?

I looked through several of these 'title' posts, and that does seem to be the most common use for that now that I look at it. Though I do occassionally come across stuff that you could probably come up with a decent title for, but might take longer than is worthwhile. Thank you!

People probably post ragebait here too, but there's a built-in incentive on Reddit, particularly on subreddits like AITA or the Tenth Dentist, where users are encouraged to up vote the most 'interesting' posts, even if they find it offensive. Maybe the equivalents here also have this policy, but upvotes mean a lot more on Reddit than here---some subreddits require a high amount of karma to post, and posting something that's guaranteed to get passed around and upvoted a ton can get people enough karma to make many more posts, have a buffer in place in case a different comment gets downvoted, or just want a lot of karma for bragging rights. Hell, you can even monetize upvotes now, in some cases.

Here on Lemmy, upvotes mainly just pass your content around for the sake of passing it around. Maybe there's an algorithm that is more likely to push an unrelated post you made to the top, but the benefits for posting ragebait here aren't as many as they are on Reddit.

Interesting. I know that most Fediverse stuff doesn't allow ads on the platform, so do the creators just get a cut of any money donated to the instance?

Just got two specific ones in my reply to @ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone. You can probably find a few more by going into search, filtering it to post only, and typing in 'title' as the search text. Usually I don't click into them, so I can't recall any specific ones that stuck out at me from my history, but I remember seeing some in my feed time to time, enough to make me wonder why it's relatively common.

Thanks for explaining the Mastodon-Lemmy compatibility thing. I've been confused about it for quite awhile. My alt's instance blocks a bunch of Mastodon servers, and I've always wondered why, since I almost never see any content from Mastodon users on here anyway. I always assumed it was simply a gesture for the admins show that they disapprove of that server's policies or something.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see another boom in active users and new accounts due to that. Just depends on how much this pushes users who were already annoyed over api changes over the edge.
