Do you have any non-hyperbolic examples of this kind of overreach?

"Anyone who thinks themselves a tankie is too self aware to be one" sounds like one of those fallacies you'd learn about in highschool. (What is a tankie, btw? I've been too scared to ask...)*

Cops shoot back, and they protect the other two groups. They're cowards, but cowards will still fire blindly when they're directly in danger.

I don't think we have to choose. "Maintain your websites so you don't get taken advantage of" and "Here's an example of a major-world-power-affiliated group exploting that thing you didn't do" are both pretty important stories.

My money is on NK never sending anyone and this all being political theater. Please. Please please please.

"Good evening, I'm tonight's moderator, Chris Wallace. And I think I'm going to do a really, really good job tonight."

The Somme, part two: Rasputitsa

TL;DR - Uhhhh.... russia has been the #1 source of firmware jailbreaks and torrents for industrial software for 20+ years. Their government is so awful that their people had to figure out how to work around the world hating them.

Oh and capitalists are traitors. Burn the rich.

I'm just commenting to get your hopes up that you might have gotten an answer, but I don't know either. Please, someone tell me what it means :(

As much as I loathe m$, the one thing they got right was forcing casual users (windows home) to install security updates as top priority, whether they like it or not. I know we all hate on windows, and rightly so, but that policy does nullify this particular vector and that is great for the consumer-level users.

(... for the sake of argument lets just pretend windows doesnt have 10,000 other vulns the malware devs can just exploit instead)

"The cloud is just other people's computers" - It's inconvenient, but those computers are real, physical objects subject to oversight from real, physical law enforcement.

Presenting these assholes suffering consequences is an important part of normalizing not being an incel POS. At least that is the theory as I have had it presented.

ITT: a lot of people worried that one of the few examples of corporate-provided services that isn't a flaming pile of anti-consumer profit-before-everything garbage is going to be punished for not being that via political ratfucking.

I look forward to the reasoned national discourse on this topic. I really hope she gets to enjoy her win.

The Bad:

No Marcus narration. How are they so out of touch with the source material to miss THAT one? And there's like... five guns. And while I like all the actors, what the hell are they doing playing those characters? Claptrap already had a voice, and it sure wasn't jack black. Poop jokes. They'd be fine if they were, you know, funny. But they weren't. How do you fuck up a poop joke?? The absolute lack of a coherent timeline that follows the canon. How is Tiny Tina the most subdued performance in the whole trailer? WHERE THE HELL ARE LILITH'S TATTOOS? Why are the cars so... lame? Why is the part where the narration says "Weirdest and most dangerous world" playing over a shot of random boulders? Why is Roland being played by a comedian? Where the hell is Zer0? Mordecai? HANDSOME JACK? Chris Sabat isn't listed on the cast so we're not getting Mr. Torgue. There's no vending machines. This fight is so rough it looks like I choreographed it. NO HAMMERLOCK.

The Good:

Florian Munteanu (Krieg) doesn't have a shirt on.

The Bad Again:

This movie isn't 1hr30min of Florian Munteanu not wearing a shirt and hitting things. Preferably in slow motion, and glistening. Maybe throw in some cute Pandorian animals, too. How cute must a baby skag be? I don't know, but I want to find out the answer.

I mean come on you could do ANYTHING with this, a feature length movie just of Granny Flexington's Story Corner would be lauded as one of the best troll moves in history. Sure, I'd go and throw a brick through Gearbox's windows for that, but I'd make sure nobody was behind said window first. ... Probably.

Both this clip and the first clip emphasize the same poop joke. And that's a problem. Somehow they've managed to make poop jokes in Borderlands a problem.

And keep in mind this is the scene the producers and people involved thought was good enough to debut online. This is what they are selling the movie on. This is their big “Take a look at this and get excited!” clip. If that’s the case, well, I fear for the rest of the movie.

Sums it up pretty well. I'm just astounded by how awful this is going to be. This looks bad enough I'm not even going to hate watch it, just... just no.

I just like the idea that Hamas got all the way through a plan to invade britain that required them to train for aerial operations, arrange for a plane, convincingly penetrate british airspace from another EU country and yet they couldn't figure out how to buy paragliders that weren't hot pink.

Well no, there is backsies. You can rescind your intent to sell within a couple days. What most CEOs do is set up regular sells every month way in advance, then choose not to sell unless its opportune at the last minute. If that sounds like it completely defeats the purpose of the rule in the first place, yep! The system is rigged.

The number of times I have:

  • Reached for Ctrl+F while reading a cookbook
  • Tried to change the line width on a whiteboard
  • Seen my partner hit Ctrl+Z on her sketchbook
  • Yanked my laptop off my desk because I'm used to bluetooth headphones and just walked off
  • Tried to use the Mirror tool on physical sculpts and machining projects
  • Tried to zoom a physical photograph
  • Hit Ctrl+S when doing ANYTHING

The future is weird and I'm really very bad at it

The argument against him is that he actively instigated and encouraged a campaign of harrassment and assault on these families through heinous, libelous lies.

Oh, and then he lied to the judge. Really don't do that.

Its by no means uncommon for people to nod off during court proceedings. Especially in the early stages like this, you'd be hard pressed to find any activity that's more boring. You're rarely engaged with, can't get up or play on your phone, don't understand anything that's being discussed and are stuck in the least interesting room in the world.

Though, you'd expect the goddamn president to be able to at least fake attentiveness. It's not like he's never had to sit through a boring briefing before. Fucking hell....

Thats on the companies to figure out, tbh. "you cant say we arent allowed to build biological weapons, thats too hard" isn't what you're saying, but it's a hyperbolic example. The industry needs to figure out how to control the monster they've happily sent staggering towards the village, and really they're the only people with the knowledge to figure out how to stop it. If it's not possible, maybe we should restrict this tech until it is possible. LLMs aren't going to end the world, probably, but a protein sequencing AI that hallucinates while replicating a flu virus could be real bad for us as a species, to say nothing of the pearl clutching scenario of bad actors getting ahold of it.

This absolute bastard said he would give a rune platebody to the person that traded him the highest value item as a sign of trust... lost a DDP++ to that jerk.

Which sounds like a joke, but that was a real eye-opening experience for 8 year old me. Enough that 20+ years later I still reflect on it on an almost daily basis, to remind myself that if something seems like a bleedingly obvious scam it invariably is.

Did something happen to prompt this that I missed? Seems pretty sudden that everyone is switching TOS all at once, but I havent been able to figure out what kicked off the trend.

I don't know if you've seen all of human history, but no, people can't be reasonable. Look at the need for mask mandates if you want a recent example.

TL;DW: Judge has ruled that a texas state law violates federal treaty obligations and thus is in conflict with the supremacy clause. The law in question would deny immigrants court hearings and/or due process that are required by law.

Waht is "libre software"? this is a totally new term to me and searching for it has turned up nothing.

Man is that an awful graphic. Both for it's godawful design and that the contents are fucking bleak....

Probably someone in QA was doing a spot check and was unable to verify the documentation from an upstream manufacturer for the materials. For example, the mine the titanium was sourced from may have had a specific ore lot listed an absurd number of times or the foundry was listed as performing material analysis done in house for procedures they normally would be required to have done by an independent lab.

Thats great but you understand they're two very different countries, right?

I know how he feels, some days. It's an extremely easy trap to fall into, and it's damned hard to get yourself back out of it. There really isn't much to be hopeful for right now. Most of the fucking morons are happy to let the world burn and take the rest of us with them. There's countless genocides. Barely any nature remaining. No prospects for the future, social events are still on life support because of covid, the list goes on.

It's really hard to find something, anything, that you can grab onto and pull yourself out of the bleak pit of nihilism. I find myself cheering for the natural disasters more and more, and I hate myself for that. But its hard not to hope that there is some natural balance to things that will start to assert itself. Maybe the world really can recover from this, if all the damn humans would just die off.

I'm lucky. My work lets me find some personal fulfillment in that I really am making a positive difference, and I have the data that demonstrates that. But its a small impact, and there's not many of me out there. And as burnt out as I am trying to fix what little I can... its hard some days. Really really hard. And before you dismiss that painfully cringe edgelord, spare a thought that there's no help to be had out there, for them or for me. We're both on our own. But, fuck em for being an edgy little shit. Doesnt really help anyone, least of all themselves.
