This was a trip back in time, seeing things like Meebo and Picasa that G purchased and killed off. 😕

I like Liftoff enough that I've stopped looking at every new thing that is coming out.

I love it so much. And the crab is their little fren, and they go out riding on the open range together to gather flowers and pollen. Best buds.

I think you're talking about "at-will" employment, which allows the employer or employee to terminate employment for no reason at any time. Only Montana doesn't have that (unfortunately for the rest of us), and employers must show good cause for termination after a set probationary period. "Right-to-work" means that you can't be required to join a union or pay fair share fees as a requirement of employment. 26 states have this on the books.

I live in a state with both laws, and it sucks as much as you'd imagine... (mainly because it's fairly indicative of other issues throughout the state).

The Artisan's Coop is building itself right now. Only time will tell how successful it will be, but they're taking their time to try to build a useful and real cooperative.

Dang, I wasn't expecting Stargate outta nowhere...

These are so perfect for the group, @UrLogicFails@beehaw.org!

It's a bit of a confusing history. The AT Protocol for decentralization was a side project of Twitter that later spun off, grew, and became Bluesky.

I'm here for it.

Most often not even taking the things that made the plundered product great in the first place, unfortunately.

I thought it was going okay: I got 6 hours of sleep (unheard of!), I woke up on time, and work was moving along smoothly. But then... my cat got sick and a not-beloved coworker decided to be annoying, so I hit a snag for a while there. I'm back at it again, having survived the issue with my cat AND the co-irker, and the day is starting to look up again. Here's hoping that the trend continues up tomorrow...

The video mentions how "y'all" has become a more nationwide word due to its usefulness.

They'll have non-member options for sellers once it's out of beta, too. Supporter members can also sell (lower buy-in cost), but the Coop commission is higher (not as high as non-member will be).

I've purchased several things there, and I've loved everything. (I'm not an artisan or crafter, just a buyer of art and craft.)

I switched to Kagi a few months ago, and I haven't had to use !g at all so far. Given that I had to daily on DDG, I'm pretty satisfied with the results!

Wait. No, share it. Please! 🥺

I've used Joey for years. (I've never used the official app.)

I'm not using anything right now and have deleted one of my accounts. I'll be deleting the other one in the next week.

It also isn't that Mastodon is necessarily a replacement for Twitter (or Lemmy for reddit). I use these communities vastly differently than I did those two places: I am much more involved and feel like an actual part of my curated communities. I'm not a lurker or a pair of potential eyes to be advertised at.

The ways that our Fediverse options are different are myriad and immensely important in a way that most outside observers don't get. These aren't "just replacements" at all; they're communities—and upgraded ones at that.

I've been using StoryGraph since it came around and really enjoy it. I've looked at BookWyrm, but I haven't considered switching yet.

The article mentions the WaPo connection to Amazon and its board, as they should, but I'm surprised to see this particular topic there, too.

This particular paragraph is disingenuous in its characterization of what's going on with Reddit, though:

There was also a concern that any major changes to the platform could scare people away. One former employee compared Goodreads to Reddit, an 18-year-old internet forum where users are revolting because of modifications to the site. “People feel like they can’t anger the community,” the former employee said.

Oh no. Did you say ND? 👀

Oh, wow. I've made 1,065 in July alone! My 7-month average (from January 2024 through today) is 811/month.

My organization just switched from this a few weeks ago! 😬

With Pebble shutting down already, I'm going to stick with Beehaw where it ends up. The ethos around discussion and understanding is the reason I have this account.

He finally signed it?! 🙌

We switched to Duo, too. Making that plan unlimited was the las barrier to my spouse jumping aboard the Kagi train. We're in for the yearly Duo sub as of this evening!

I still get comments of surprise when I explain why we moved to our current location: it was for my job, and my husband was the trailing spouse. For us, it was a fresh start, because he really disliked his job at the time and it was a chance for him to find something new. My job also allows him to work part time and to focus on another aspect of career that isn't a job (and doesn't currently bring in money) but is very important to him.

I would love to see this become more of a norm (is 50/50 too much to ask?), because there are so many pink-collar careers that require movement to get into or move up these days.

This is an amazing project, and I am so happy to hear that it's been successful for so long! Pollinators are so important to everything and everyone, so I have a soft spot for bees and bats.

You mention in the comments that you often have mason bees. Do you build those wood dowel habitats for those guys, too?

I really appreciate you!

Duluth, Minnesota, tried to do some control for absent landlords, requiring that landlords live within or have a representative within X miles of the rental. Unfortunately, all that did was make management companies more overbearing when owners turned to them to be the local contact.

They really need to talk to Mary!

Beehaw Dark is exactly what I've been looking for as a starting place, and I can adjust minimal things here and there if I need to. Thanks for taking the time to make and share these with us!

I've used CC for years and years, and they've built the service up so much. I'm still amazed that it's remained free the entire time.

Before starting my own personal one, I used ones run by @Stux, mstdn.social and masto.ai. He has another one that's based around coffee lovers, too: mastodon.coffee. They're pretty laid back servers!

Very Being John Malkovichian...

I never understood why it wasn't more popular! I tried others but always came right back to Joey.

Beeple!

Okay, who's got the extra set of legs?

Oooh, I need to check out SAML tracer. Thanks!

Processional: "She's the One" by World Party for groom and family, "Book of Love" by Peter Gabriel for bride. It ended up being perfectly timed, because I was able to sing the last verse to my favorite person when I got to him (which is about wanting to give each other wedding rings)

Recessional: "Ugly Day" by Five Iron Frenzy

I recommend Pati Jinich's recipes for anything she makes. She has both a flour and a corn tortilla recipe.
