My son is nine. I got him a Kano (the old one with a raspberry pie as base) and he has to learn why we need to connect a display to the processing unit and connect peripherals to do things. His friends own a tablet, a smartphone and a gaming console. You cannot see behind the tech in those, if you don’t want to destroy them and explore hobbit works (on a basic level).

The eagle as a symbol predates the nazis - a lot. The „Reichsadler“ has been used since 800 A.D. as in the region that is now Germany:

I purged all my contributions and rewrote my comments to something along the line of „see you at Lemmy“ (which got me some bans) and finally pulled the plug. I started social media with the Usenet. It is only zeros and ones and can be destroyed by tapping the wrong button. 🤷‍♂️

I use posteo.de and sync between Thunderbird on Linux, Thunderbird on OS X, Apple Mail on Desktop and iOS without problems. Calendar and contacts, too. My partner syncs between iPhone and Thunderbird on Windows.

The service is a German privacy aware mail service. It is 1€/Month.

My contacts are synced between an iPhone, Linux Mint and a Mac. My Parter syncs between an iPhone and a Windows PC (Witt Thunderbird as mail Client).

Take a look at „The Linux Experiment“ on YouTube or tidal. He switched his whole setup to Linux and runs a business on top of free software, including editing his screen casts.

Edit: he uses tuxedo computers hardware and the OS it is shipped with, Tuxedo OS, which is Debian based.

It is called a programming language. I guess repeating some sentences or even the idea for a story is normal when you write a book or code a program.

I think this is only the case with the free version. Source: I worked with some big German companies which wanted to have an autotranslate function for their software. DeepL was the top choice, because the quality is very good and the data protection agreements for the paid service left no questions.

I tried pirating the training maps for the „Sportbootführerschein See“ (German drivers license for boats in German waters) and had no luck.

I would not bother pirating this for two reasons:

1. The only valid maps (for German waters) are made by the „Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie“ and all maps are a licensed copy. They put a lot of work into maintaining and updating those maps and one way to maintain the infrastructure for safely traveling is paying for it.
2. Your life could depend on an accurate map. The official maps I found were updated every 10 days. Would you risk it for a couple of €?

Be aware that a fast change in character could be a sign for a starting mental illness or a physical one affecting the brain.

If you feel, you are no longer able to reach your friend, talk to a professional how you could support your friend. And discussing based on logic and common sense might not be the way to help.

Have you tried languagetool? There is an integration for Libre Office, Obsidian, MS Word and others. It offers spell checking, rephrasing and is superior to the build in checker in my experience. You could compare it to DeepL versus Azure Translate.

They have total different use cases. DeepL is a translator, language tool checks for style and grammar.

I use both frequently and both do a very good job. I have a prime membership of language tool and I like it. Both are German companies and operate under GDPR.

Business users are the target group. If your job needs you to reply to a lot of mails and the Myomen you press the reply button AI creates an answer for you, you only need to edit in some details, the time safed will probably be worth more than 30$ a month.

Other use cases are internal communications. I know intranet software where you just promt a topic, a tone and what department you like from and it will create a news for you. Again not perfect, but safes you from staring at a blank page.

The MacBook Air with the M2 chip is fanless as well. If it gets to hot, performance is downgraded.
