In response to such critiques, Reddit spokesperson Rathschmidt said he did not “know of an industry benchmark for scoring content quality”.

(Emphasis mine)

This is the same tone deaf response I've come to expect from Reddit for some time now, and is why I'm happy to no longer be a user of their platform.

Sounds a lot like what my company did. They made going in on Mon, Tue, Wed mandatory for everyone not designated as "Remote" beginning the day after Labor Day. The dumb thing here is that people don't have a desk to go to.

They announced a construction project on one of the buildings a few months ago, and have since closed that building completely, moving those people into the main building, and announced at the same time the closure of 2 more buildings for "reasons." This forced the need for "Flex Desks" as well as the installation of "bench desks" in what used to be common areas, just to fit people in. Further stupidity was introduced when they said that teams would have designated "neighborhoods" to sit together in, which is anything but. It's really a floor or part of a floor for an entire organization - "figure it out." So now when we arrive after our shitty commute, we have to wander around for a place to sit.

Then there's parking, which, if you didn't get into one of the 2 parking garages that are company owned and paid for by pre-tax deductions, then you have to find your own parking with your post-tax pay, because the agreement with the local garages wasn't renewed during the pandemic.

All dictated to us by someone who regularly joins video conferences from his car, home, or Yacht.

A few years ago, Morningstar used to have a vegetarian rib patty. Once I realized its potential as a vegetarian McRib, I bought a pack. It was delicious. I bought another pack.

And then it was gone from shelves in every store that had it.

I believe what they're getting at is an issue if they're not already authenticated prior to the outage. Then they'd have no access to their media unless they look into the workaround for that beforehand. It has been an issue in the past, especially when Plex's auth servers go down. I remember plenty of Reddit threads complaining about it.

It's probably an issue all over, and I hope it gets blocked, for the sake of consumers. Kroger acquired a company called Roundy's which has a chain called "Pick N Save" in Wisconsin back in 2015. I remember shopping there after and seeing additional tags with products' prices announcing the "Your New Low", but prices were higher than pre acquisition. I stopped shopping there after that and noticing a decrease in product/brand diversity.

I run GrapheneOS.

I told myself that my Pixel 8 pro will be enough for a bunch of years. That is, until I went on a trip with it. Now I feel like my Pixel 7 was better than the P8P is, with just as good of a camera with better battery life.

I'm glad I kept the p7 as a burner, because I may just make it my prime phone. I only upgraded on the prospect of a long lasting phone and received the p7 for free..

I used to on my PS1 and Saturn. Actually, the first CD I ever purchased was Nirvana's Nevermind, and the first CD player I had to play that on was the Sega CD.

Clear is now a TSA “vendor” for the precheck process. The machines they use for the sign up process - at least the airport I was at - don’t have the eye scanning camera in the kiosk.

The Clear representative I was asking questions of had said they don’t require eye scans for Clear, though that is the default. People can ask to use just fingerprints, which he said does disrupt the terminal process as the agents don’t think to ask if fingerprints were what was registered when the eye scans fail.

I am not advocating for Clear. I refuse to use them. I simply do want to call out that they are one of 3 who handle the process for the TSA now. People do have a choice of which of the three to use.

Agreed. It didn't feel respectful when they started replacing mod teams that refused to reopen.

Last I played, the arc was humans attempted firing a weapon targeting Thargoids and it failed. Thargoids got mad and attacked human systems in the bubble.

There was also some unhappiness around their spacelegs expansion and the subsequent end of development for console versions. I stopped playing since then not because of any problems but because I got into other games.

I've had success finding directories of chd's after searching for something with "archive" ".org" "ps1" "psx" and "chd" as possible search terms.

I enjoy seeing these. I still have the HBO Max "Integration Test Email #1" from 6/17/2021. It's one of the oldest emails in my inbox, and its presence there motivates me to clear my inbox just to have a giggle.

The pixels seem to have it by default. I don't have the Apple app, but my phone will tell me the airtag on my keys was following me. It's pointless though, because it shows up a couple hours after the fact.

Fitbit acquired Pebble, not Garmin, so any of that tech is now with Google.

Garmin devices can be cheap, reliable, and work for a long time. There's a bit of a community for them online, but I am not aware of any custom firmware.

I was in a very similar position as you. Thirteen year user, moderator for a few smaller subreddits, including one that provided support for a US-based mobile phone carrier, and deleted everything when the API change happened.

It took time and effort to coordinate and help uplift those who generated the great content for those subreddits, but Reddit, Inc., was unwilling to help us moderators who had developed and used the tools necessary to do it. I wasn't willing to put in the additional time since Reddit was themselves unwilling to, post API change.

Sounds about the same. We heard "record profits" every year during the pandemic when everyone was home. Suddenly it's "we're better together" and "culture."

A coworker in another city going into the office the company has floors in, who is also the only one from our team there: "nothing is different. I'm still on zoom all day."

It's not just P8/P8P in my experience. I can no longer connect a P7 to the same vehicle. Android Auto never starts, the car screen just says the device is not compatible.

My other car, which has the motorola wireless dongle, works fine.

I’ve had the Eros E3.5s for a few years and they’ve not let me down on quality, especially at the price point.

I also considered those Mackie’s.

This song is so epic to me. I have it in a playlist I listen to while running, and the beat matches my cadence. When it comes on, I get chills, extra motivated, and end up pushing even harder.

Exactly. Despite making it incredibly frustrating for existing customers who want/need to manage their sim cards, they continue to have these sim swap attacks.

Radar Mission. I can hear the music in my head from both game types whenever I think about it, right down to the music when the carrier launches the fighter. I enjoyed both game types a lot, though I remember getting frustrated as a kid until I learned the nuances of the opponents.

I use Tidal. I have no issues with the app or anything it recommends to me. In fact, it does a really great job at mentioning new music from bands that I haven't heard from in a while. Econoline Crush and Filter are 2 that had a recent release that even Apple Music didn't tell me about, even though I have both bands music in my library with Apple.

I've tried to like Spotify, but I just couldn't get into it. There was just a feeling that it's not a music first app, but a user data collection app that happens to provide music. I don't get that feeling with Tidal.

If I had to complain about Tidal for something, it would be the Live feature. I have the toggle off for showing live sessions, but I'd love to just turn it completely off and remove all traces of that feature. No one cares what I'm listening to, and I have no intention of being "social" in my music app.

They’re (kinda) back!! I haven’t tried them yet, but I will.

They’re (kinda) back!!

Soft Skills Engineering: I listen for advice on the non-technical side of software development.

The Greatest Generation: a couple guys who review ST:TNG, DS9 and now Voyager episodes.

Greatest Trek: the above but for new Trek

I use a Garmin Venu 2. It's a "smart enough" watch where it's not annoying in terms of notifications, but it provides all of the data I could imagine needing relating to my fitness activities. I started using it after Mozilla reviewed Garmin's stance on privacy.

I also have a Seiko kinetic watch I wear for nice or more formal events.

I just found their replacement in store. Check out my other comment below.

Here ya go! It's nothing truly prophetic, but it's music I enjoy and find easy to run to. https://tidal.com/playlist/dfa4fe7c-8192-470b-9e39-62319424d9f8

Absolutely! I did this with Ridge Racer on the PS1. I tossed in Nirvana's Bleach album, and Love Buzz lined up near perfect with one of the game's track numbers.

Fair point. I still feel that it could be better. I'm seeing that I can go to work, be there all day, and come home, and only receive the notification late evening. I'd prefer it to be faster for the sake of those affected by actual stalking.
