Its the sane reason people still play old mmos. Theyve already sunk so much time into it and they are used to it, its were their community is and something new is uncomfortabke and scary.

I use lutris and heroic for non stean titles since last i checked they both have a feature to add games to steam. and steam rom manager for emulators but for games that just arent on any stores like starsector i just add them manually and use plugins for game art

It honeslty depends on what you do and want. I use syncthing instead of cloud services to bavk up everything i need and because i play emulated games a lot on both pc and my steam deck i can essentially have cloud saves for them.
