There’s also the Moms for Liberty organizer who was a convicted sex offender that was identified about a month before the bisexual couple. Their candidates had been losing plenty of local elections before all these scandals came out because it turns out a lot of people don’t want to elect crazy book banning people to their local school boards.

For the Texans specifically, I would like to add that Ken Paxton is trying to primary Presiding Judge Sharon Keller, Judge Barbara Hervey and Judge Michelle Slaughter of the Criminals Court of Appeals which is the highest level criminal appeals court in Texas. He is upset with them because they wouldn’t allow him to pursue voter fraud cases unilaterally, his office has to get permission from a local prosecutor now.

Ken Paxton has also put a lot of money into trying to primary state legislators who voted to impeach him, that is why so many incumbents do have challengers right now. Definitely look up your local races before going in to vote.

In case anyone is out of the loop on Attorney General Ken Paxton, I have one more link about the charges of securities fraud he was indicted on eight years ago. The case is finally going to trial in April.

Paper tea bags usually contain polypropylene or another plastic so they can be heat sealed shut. They aren’t fully compostable.

Speaker Johnson explicitly said the blurring is so the DoJ isn’t “weaponized” against these people. It is precisely to prevent further prosecutions by making it harder to identify people in newly released footage, they aren’t even trying to pretend otherwise.

Apparently we also need BadBabiesAnatomy now.

When the opposition is trying to end democracy so it can have free rein to do whatever it likes, sometimes you have to. This isn’t a polite disagreement about convoluted economic theories, they want to eliminate large segments of our population and their supporters are already violent. At some point they are going to stop busing foreigners to different cities and start gunning them down. They likely aren’t going to be too gentle with LGBTQ populations when they work to eliminate them. They are already controlling what kind of medical care women have access to and they will probably find more ways to restrict women’s lives to promote their ideas of Christian morality. Women are already being told they have to be at death’s door to have their miscarriages treated, this situation is currently at the point of being a life and death issue for many people when the christofascists have barely started taking control.

The CEO of the streaming platform was participating in the stream, I think this visit was meant to be a publicity stunt to drum up more interest in the platform which is trying to become an alternative to Twitch. It’s investor money that was lost here, not the streamer’s money.

Some people don't want to come off as really crass and aggressive. I don't understand why people get so offended by polite language. It's not a religious thing, plenty of religious people swear up a storm.

My dad was in the army, so he was no stranger to swearing. My parents weren't strict or religious when I was growing up. I just didn't like how harsh and, frankly, how stupid swears sounded, so I decided not to use them.

People like to say "you can swear on the internet", but just because you can do something doesn't mean you should do it. The people on the internet are every bit as real as people off the internet and words can cause a whole lot of hurt. Why not make the internet a more friendly and inviting place?

Does it really hurt anyone that this person edited this post to match their personality better? Why is this even a big deal?

There are 435 voting members from states and 6 non-voting members who represent US territories like American Samoa, so likely at least 435 pins and maybe a handful more. That comes to a little over $90/pin.

It costs $7 million for a 30 second spot. The Super Bowl is the only event where you can find 1/3 of America watching it, including many who are not into sports but dragged by loved ones to a Super Bowl party, so advertisers have a long history of trying to come up with the most flashy, catchy, outlandish, high production ads they can produce in the hopes that it sticks in the audience’s mind and gets people talking about it so they will tell the other 2/3 of America about talking frogs or whatever the hot new thing is. Each year there are whole articles out there about “this year’s best Super Bowl ads”.

You have to keep in mind that American football is extremely suited to ads with all the breaks in play, so it has been a favorite of advertisers for a long time. I don’t know why so many people fell in love with a game with so little action in the first place, but this is the end result of that.

“I mean, yes, I’m a brown girl that grew up in a small rural town in South Carolina who became the first female minority governor in history, who became an UN ambassador and who is now running for president. If that’s not the American dream, I don’t know what is,”

She likely wouldn’t have been the “first female minority governor in history” hundreds of years after the founding of the US if we didn’t have a long history of racism and sexism in the country. Nice of her to include some contradictory evidence right in her statement.

Just because you swear an oath doesn’t mean you will feel like sticking your life on the line to sneak past the secret service and assassinate a domestic enemy president. At best, the military might refuse some unlawful orders.

Edge is a chromium browser, too. It has been for some time now.

Senator Mitt Romney has been a vocal never-Trumper all along.

Glenn Beck is a Mormon and evangelicals don’t really trust Mormons even though they often overlap in their politics.

One option that is kind of a middle ground is to learn a craft. Knitting, crochet, making fly fishing lures, sculpting. There are lots of things you can do with your hands while listening to a podcast or audiobook, so while it still involves content consumption it also engages your motor skills and creativity and you end up with something to show for it by the time you are finished.

If you said “I brought some guys back to my place last night”, do you really think people would be imagining a mixed gender group? Do you think they would ever imagine you brought a group of women back with you when you said that? Guys is masculine sometimes used to generalize across a group that includes non-males. It only applies when at least one male is around.

Incarceration doesn’t disqualify candidates. Eugene Debs ran for president from prison in 1920 and won 3.5% of the vote.

I have a cat that has been an overeater since birth. His siblings would nurse until they were full and then back off to take a little cat nap, but he would nurse until mom left the box the kittens were in and he couldn’t get to her anymore. I feed each of my cats on a schedule and each has a separate place to eat so they can’t steal from each other. Left over food from the other cats gets picked up before the overeater is let out. There are a lot of complicated slow feeders on the market, but a cheap and simple one has worked great for me. It is a narrow, deep bowl with a wide lip that he can only pull a few pieces of food out of at a time with his paw. Wet food hasn’t been as much of a problem with vomiting, so I haven’t tried any slow feeders meant for wet food. Mine eat wet food in the morning and dry food in the evening.

I am linking the feeder I own, I haven’t seen one by any other brands but the design is so simple that they might exist if this one isn’t available near you or you may even be able to craft a DIY version. https://catit.us/products/catit-multi-feeder

Ok now I am curious where you live that you have to provide ID to shop. Here in the US we scan the items and then swipe our payment card, the ID is only used to check your age for tobacco and alcohol purchases which can’t be sold to minors. An employee has to come look at the ID to make sure a minor hasn’t borrowed someone else’s, so it doesn’t even get scanned. Employees just swipe their work badge and confirm that they checked your age.

As for the pain, a lot of self checkout systems have very limited space and can be awkward to run all your items through. Manned stations have the conveyor so you can unload multiple items from your cart at a time to be scanned. They also have more end space so you can have room to bag everything if you are doing a big shopping trip.

These polygamist Mormon cults have a long history of child abuse. It is relevant that they continue to arrange child marriages and facilitate child abuse even as their previous leader is spending the rest of his life in prison for the exact same thing.

It is the same group, Warren Jeffs is technically still that group’s leader from prison, but Samuel Bateman started telling followers that Jeffs died in prison to convince them he is their new prophet and they need to give up their minor daughters to him as wives.

This is an old article, but Carter did recently visit a peanut festival or parade of some sort. I was surprised someone in hospice was well enough to go out for a drive. The people I knew that entered hospice weren't well enough for that kind of outing except maybe the first week or so after they switched to hospice care from the regular prolong your life kind of treatment.

Sarcasm in person generally comes with a distinctive tone of voice, facial expressions, and body language that are lacking in text-only communication. If people know you well enough in a text chat, they can often make assumptions about your seriousness based on what they know of your beliefs, but we are on an anonymous message board here. The people here have no experience with whether or not you are naive or a jokester or seriously confused. There's a reason it became standard to mark sarcasm on reddit with /s, it is the simplest replacement for the missing tone and body language context that would go along with a statement if we were communicating face to face.

Actually, the premiere of Alberta is trying to privatize the province’s healthcare. Just look up pretty much any Danielle Smith speech on health care, it is insane what she is attempting. I have come to the conclusion that Alberta is the Texas of Canada. They love the oil industry, hate the government, want to privatize everything, and even have their own half-hearted secession movement.

For that matter, Alberta even toyed with replacing the Royal Canadian Mounted Police with their own local provincial police. I am American so I don’t entirely understand the situation, but it sounds about like if Texas decided to kick out the FBI and have the Texas Rangers take over FBI duties within the state.

She is a member of the US House of Representatives, her district is in Colorado.

I don’t check Reddit much, but I have been using Dystopia lately if I need to check a niche community. I have a different VPN so no idea if browsing Reddit through that app works with Mullvad, but it does let me browse without an account.

If everyone starts using it, it won’t sound southern any more. C’mon, you know you want to.

The term upstate has no relation to the capital city, that was a mistaken assertion. It isn’t used very widely at all, it’s just a local term in a couple of states for their northern portions. Most states don’t have an area that is referred to as upstate.

That whole thing was so ridiculous, they were talking about what kills the virus on surfaces. There are a lot of things that can sanitize a table or counter but that doesn’t mean they can kill germs in your body without also killing you. Imagine having a sunburn inside your lungs because someone shoved a light down there, that was Trump’s genius solution to the pandemic in that moment.

The Brave browser was full of ads for crypto currencies last time I looked into it. It hardly seems like a good option for someone who is trying to avoid ads.

What makes you think this isn’t how I code? Offices love me, this is way cheaper than a bunch of ergonomic equipment.

In some places it never left.

The Boring Company is alive and well in Texas, they just held a job recruiting event a few weeks ago.

There is nothing stopping incarcerated people from running for president, it has been done before. That probably helps to make it less enticing for corrupt politicians and their allies to lock up their opponents on false charges. Unless Trump dies within the next ten months or loses the support of his fanatic base, which both seem unlikely, Trump will be the Republican nominee. Haley might try for VP or try to carry her momentum into 2028.

Firefish is another fediverse microblogging platform and it has search and quote tweets, but you can't follow hashtags in your regular timeline (you can set up a separate timeline called an antenna that regularly pulls in posts according to a list of words or hashtags you specify). It also has a tweet deck style layout you can setup and you can easily follow and be followed by mastodon users from a firefish account.

There are other alternatives as well, but this is the one I am most familiar with.

I do check one niche subreddit for a TV show about once every week when a new episode drops, but I hadn't used reddit at all until this season came out. I will go right back to not using it pretty soon here. I used to read reddit during the majority of my down time, but the attitude Spez had was so awful that I have no desire to return to regular use. I spend a lot of my time on discord, some on Firefish, and a little bit on Lemmy. I do more things offline now. I thought it would be difficult to replace reddit, but it hasn't been.

You need parental consent to marry a minor in Alabama, perhaps the parents did not agree to the marriage. According to the article, they didn’t actually get married until after she turned 18.

They would share some with state parties to get rid of never Trumpers in their party

The point is that it would be better as a nightmare that never truly happened instead of our present reality.
