The other side is that they'll also push back against good stuff for the consumer since everything they do is completely out of self interest.

Or the 100th marvel movie and tv show or some member-berries star wars show.

Even my super basic washer has a delayed start timer that solves that issue without wifi modules or whatever. Then again insurance doesn't cover a water leak or oven fire if I run stuff when I'm away so I never do that.

Drone strikes are the holy grail of the military-industrial complex. They are cheap to run meaning that the air force doesn't have to give them a huge budget yet consume precision bombs and missiles at a steady rate meaning that the weapon industry get a secure revenue stream. And they can be scaled up almost infinitely since there is no bad news coverage of wounded veterans or crying widows on us television.

Indeed. VC is going into "AI" instead so now services have to be financially sustainable. And that is not really the problem, it's when companies intentionally do it in a way that fuck the user.

Check out this list. The imax 70mm ones would be reels like this one.

https://www.in70mm.com/news/2023/oppenheimer_cinema/index.htm

A surprising number of films are still shot on film and then transfered to a digital intermediate for editing and later distribution. Not only the few film imax ones. I wonder if anyone is still doing their editing on film, I highly doubt it.

If my mom saw that on her phone she would call me and say her phone was exploding. Or go and buy a new phone.

Doing stuff behind the scenes is fine because people are ignorant and easily panic. But it should have been visible in the battery power menu or something.

Indeed. Ruud has stated he has hundreds of unread notifications that he may never have time to get around to. Tagging him in threads does nothing and you really can't hold his "silence" as proof of anything.

Better of trying to poke one of the other admins.

No they've committed to keeping it. But they have an issue with port availability so they'll probably need to move to a per server allocation eventually. Recently they reduced the allocation per user down to 5 from 20 though just to delay when they run out.

Linking is enough to be illegal in places. A torrent file or magnet link is just a link and contain no pirated content itself yet here we are.

Worth point out is that it doesn't even reach the same classification as red meat which is classified as probably causing cancer.

They are currently working hard to discontinue your favourite Google service.

It seems to be a special torrent client that work similar to tor (guessing with less hops though) and bounce encrypted traffic on special "i2p routers". Not sure if they do the onion style encryption of thor.

That is so meh... The entire thing started with some scientist made the mistake of not using dumb normal people terms when speaking with a journalist and instead used scientific terms. So there's a theretical possibility it may destroy the earth. There is also a theretical possibility that the atoms of a pencil may randomly align with the atoms of the table it's resting on and fall through it to the floor below.

It will never happen of course but there is a theoretical chance it will happen just as there is a theoretical chance the the collider will destroy the earth.

So 128kbps transcoded to 96kbps? Seems like quite a significant price to pay, but whatever you're happy with works for you :)

Which seem perfectly reasonable to me honestly. This all seem like a nothing issue when we have larger problems concerning things like planned obsolescence and no maintainability to deal with.

Usb is a de-facto standard and are we still using usb 1.1?

And that's fine, I'm just sad how that type of content has significantly marginalised original films and shows.

Because bluetooth audio playback is part of the kernel and pulseaudio/pipewire (and more) and unless sony want to run those on the ps5 (which arguably would be a bad idea at this point) that's not really a useful analogy.

A better question is why a dedicated gaming company like nintendo could at least get some audio working while ps5 made by a much bigger and more diverse company can't.

Arguably it's because ps5 is a home console and audio playback is the realm of the tv or receiver/soundbar in that setting and they are more concerned with showing ads and spying on you than basic functionality nowadays...

Bluetooth and bluetooth audio are very different things. Bluetooth audio support seem rather weak and users seem to be using usb audio blootooth dongles created for pa4 and ps5 such as https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08MF5S5YX rather than a generic bluetooth transciever.

What little freebsd support for bluetooth audio there is seem to rely on specific audio backend software and since I'm assuming ps5 has surround sound, atmos and whatnot they probably threw that out of the window early on during development.

With that said sony has done plenty of graphical stuff on what I assume is their custom display driver suchas 3d, vrr, hdr. So them having plenty of custom modules on top of freebsd can't really be an excuse so I'd just cook it down to sony priorities.

Also, fuck developing for bluetooth. Hate that janky specification...

They're doing an IPO so yes, that is what sustainable means nowadays, as shitty as it is.

Oh I don't know, starting or popularising the trend of gluing the phone together, removing the 3.5mm jack, not adopting the standardised method for post-sms communication (rcs vs imessage) to name a few.

Ok

Russians? China? Plenty of shills all over the world etc.

Maybe he's referring to that even if the source is 44.1/16-bit flac or wave (cd) the entire chain maybe isn't. Maybe the firmware (android in this case) uses a fixed 48kHz sample rate which to me makes it sound a lot more dull. Maybe the dac in whatever is playing the flac file is objectively or subjectively worse than the one in the cd player (this matters a lot). Maybe the firmware doesn't allow for exclusive access to the dac to whatever software is playing the flac file. A cd players is comparably simpler to program software for since it's only made to do one thing which is to play one format at one sample rate and bit rate. That's it.

Lossless sources doesn't mean a lossfree playback chain from the software to the dac.

Had the same issue. Try clearing the app data storage.

Orpheus is tough in the beginning. It's important to essentially only use freeleech tokens since a download rarely manage to get above a ratio of one.

Hope not, trophies and award whoring is just as bad as karma whoring and neither is a thing here and lemmy is better off because of it.

I never thought of that as a possibility. Best of both worlds then I guess.

They're probably reading it as "better beef up my security and reinforce the wall around my mansion".

The father who's up in the clouds somewhere looking down on us? That seem like a bullshit story if I ever saw one.

Hard to describe since it's literally called livetv... It uses the saint martin top level domain... ymmv

Don't download their player obviously

Looking at how many celebrated ROG Ally shipping with windows I doubt it will catch on. Only possibility I see is if valve would do profit sharing with the handheld maker for purchases made in the steam store.

For a third party to ship with steam os now would essentially mean they are also supporting the largest player in the market with no gain for themselves.

Some. There seem to be no problem with reforming the mod ranks...

Transcoding kills audio but whatever :)

Isn't it just a web app/electron on windows anyway? I've run a whatsapp "client" on linux for years without problems.
