I am an archo-communist, cat-loving dude with a very eclectic range of interests and passions. Currenty, I'm into networks of all kinds and open source software.

Typical fear of missing out behavior. Folks flock to Threads to see what it's all about, see that it actually sucks, and bail.

While reddit makes further enemies, I laugh because I know the #fediverse will benefit from their outflow. The fediverse will become even more diverse.

Get an advanced education, work harder, never be the one to say, "That is not my job" was the worst advice I could ever receive. I got into debt and was abused and exploited by my employers.

I am no doctor but I remember hearing one of the warning signs of depression can be the absence of feeling. It is certainly one of mine.

Oracle weighing in on anything open source related is peak hypocrisy. Fuck Oracle. They're not our friends.

More to the point: where does anybody go for any reliable news? It seems like most news is now using hyperbole to make it entertainment. We have old man Rupert to thank for basically destroying a respected profession. That's my 0.02 anyhow.

Do yourself a favor and don't buy another inkjet printer, let alone a shitty HP product. Definitely get yourself a Brother laser printer. Brothers are bulletproof.

I like the idea of a federated, ActivityPub-based version control systems that work with git. Here lies the problem: Microsoft has not done quite enough to inflict pain on developers just yet. As I begrudgingly concede, MS has been by and large friendly to github members, even the non-paying ones.

I absolutely refuse to use TikTok but let's be honest here in that our own politicians and the decisions that they make that are anti-working class and anti-poor are more of a national security threat than TikTok.

That sounds a lot like the pot calling the kettle black. Oracle is nothing but a bunch of stark hypocrites. They have absolutely nothing to say on the subject matter of FOSS and open and fair competition. This is just peak corporatism. Oracle is the king of proprietary. They've done NOTHING to contribute to open source. They take, take, take!

I think those funds should be given to the employee harmed by the harassment. But somehow I think they'll just fill Bungie's coffers.

Unfortunately, no. Since the bird site started charging exorbitant amounts for access to its API, many of the smaller apps that used to work with it don't work anymore. You're honestly best staying off of twitter altogether. Don't give the Musk anything to monetize you.

I'd say it's lazy and incompetent management, i.e the #techbros and people that have failed upwards.

Rather than trying to muck with dual booting, I would recommend picking up a Lenovo T430S or better laptop on Amazon from around 150.00-500.00. Lenovo ThinkPad T series laptops are incredibly well supported by Linux. Then install Linux Mint. This is a great way to get started with a low barrier to entry. As you get better, you can start tinkering with the innards. By getting a cheap spare machine with which to learn Linux on, it will be the least disruptive to you.

Fuck Tesla without any lube.

The way Rolling Stone put it, Twitter welcomed the Taliban with open arms as if to say, "Please come in. The water's warm so you might as well swim." Elon Musk is facist and a support of fellow fashies.

Ah that's right! It is CO2. My mind remembered it as propane for some reason.

They may have quashed the protest, but at what ultimate cost? The reputation damage has happened and people have definitely left. Lemmy saw some significant growth. I'm new to Lemmy but so far it definitely feels like what I enjoyed about reddit without all of the corporate bullshit. It's nice not seeing shit-take ads either.

The worst gift I've ever received once was a some kind of gift certificate to weight watchers. I was pissed off because I actually had been losing weight on my own just fine.

The main reason to do it is when the manufacturer no longer releases security updates for the phone. Given the security history and the typical corporate attitude of caring little for the customer, I want to minimize the risk posed by not having a very out of date operating system.

Mark my words we are soon going to have to subscribe to our toilets. You get one flush a day for free. Save money by subscribing to the flush-lite which gives you 2 additional flushes. If you choose not to subscribe, you will be charged 2.99 for each flush beyond the first one.

I get this to a certain extent. But if Amazon makes absolutely no effort to police its platforms, then it should be able to be sued for potential defamation, libel, etc. Amazon cannot have total immunity from responsibility. I am not a lawyer but I think there is a legal term for things like this called, "Best Effort." I am more familiar with criminal law than civil law though.

It does not mean anything for me because I am not a Windows user. For Windows users it means subscription models and renting software. It could also mean eventually booting your computer into a desktop that is in the cloud. I hope to god that does not happen because it may make finding hardware that will run Linux and BSD that much harder.

I just read the article. I wonder how many bootlickers and corporate apolgists are going to say anything.

This is hubris is really good for the fediverse. I had a relatively piddly account at only 80,000 in karma but I I still closed my account. Good riddance to that last piece of corporate social media. The next thing I want to see is something similar to Pinterest in the fediverse space but it may end up being redunant.

I hate assholes that do this. Why? I mean really why?

The politicians are clutching their pearls in shock and anger. Those motherfuckers have enabled corporations to behave badly in the first place. Fucking hypocrites.

Man fuck those fascists. I am glad for every day that I am not on there writing content for them. Now granted my content might be shyte but it still drove revenue. 😆

At the end of this month, I will be at 2.5 months completely on Linux. The only thing stopping me was simply not knowing that Steam and Proton existed for Linux. I can play the games that matter to me on Linux. Good riddance to Windows!

This is fucking ridiculous! Do you have to buy a subscription in order to use the appliance? If so, it seems to me that this would constitute unfair trade practice. Some shit just does not belong on the internet. Can you imagine the serious and life threatening situation that could develop, if say, somebody hacked into a system and turned gas stoves on and a fire developed? No, it's time to draw the line at IoT!

Those are people that came to the fediverse thinking that it was the exact same thing as corporate social media and that is where they were wrong. I heard the same quips and gripes from social media influencers. The whole point of the fediverse is to get away from ads, influence, toxicity and all that other crap.

As an Amurican, I hope all Europeans abandon Google and Facebook. Don't let these companies take your data.

I think a preemptive block on threads and meta is a wise move! I did it for both my Mastodon and Lemmy instances.

Saying no I'll bet increases the scrutiny that you're going to get.

My vote will always side with the open source community so please take that with a grain of sand. I much prefer Jellyfin because of its status as an open source project.

Absolutely you should care! The more people that demand this capability the more that Intel and AMD will have to offer this kind of support. In fact, we should demand that the Intel Management Engine and the AMD equivalent be equipped with capability to completely disable it.

Trumblr is still corporate social media and given a different turn of events would sell you out to get ahead so I don't have any soft place in my heart for that.

PeerTube looks very promising.

As long as they all support ActivityPub, federate, and don't benefit a corporation of any kind I am all in on them.
