Not too weird, but I found this accidentally: a subwoofer under my bed (the speakers that came with it broke)

I found a ten hour long brown noise mp3 that is set to loop indefinitely on an old burner phone. Through the subwoofer it sounds exactly like the warp engines from Star Trek TNG. Incredibly comforting, and hard to sleep without

Hah oh shit. I'm a reddit refugee, seeing you feels like seeing like a local celebrity. Thanks for modding that sub, I was there a lot

Same. I went from one overly complicated Debian install to two dozen neat and self contained VMs that do one thing each. I even tricked a Windows VM into not knowing that it's a VM, so I can game with anticheat games.

You're not wrong, and I'm upvoting everything you say because I hate the smug SO people who ask why instead of actually trying to help.

But in this specific case, there's literally no reason to use OpenOffice, it's discontinued. People shouldn't have to explain how to use a defunct software with an addendum.

It's not an obscure programming language with an edge case, it's a word processor.

Ugh. Yeah I've heard that "it isn't the best. It was the easiest to sign up for when the reddit exodus happened. I'm anti Israel and pro Ukraine and I'm always busy with real life/my own hobbies. I just don't have the bandwidth for finding the best instance. C

My computer wasn't booting properly for a month or two, I think it was saying boot drive not found or something. It would work if I went into boot options and picked my main drive.

The cause? I used the Blu Ray drive for the first time in years, and for some dumb reason, that was listed higher in the boot options. My computer was trying to boot into a Blu Ray of Blade Runner

Hah dude I've been using i3 for years, and same. Like maybe 30% of the time. And half the time the background image is wonky when I start it up. Super+shift+r fixes it every time though, so fuck it

I'm with you there. A couple winters ago I was a delivery person, I dropped a package on someone's porch and I heard a little meow. Couple seconds later this little furball was climbing up my pant leg.

I knocked on the door to talk to the homeowner who said his mother had been hit by a car, and she had a cantankerous dog so she couldn't take care of him. So I took him

I feel extremely responsible for my cat. He's not like an "accessory" he's something I made a commitment to saving and is dependent on me

Jesus I've been using Linux for years and your comment just made this really click for me. Do you think Linus is protected by governments and stuff? Like I know he didn't make all of it, and there's lots of forks, but he's defacto in charge... That's gotta be a lot of soft power

You know that you dont have to pay for a Windows license right? You can permanently activate it (and any version of office) with a script. I found some article a while ago talking about it, some official Microsoft tech support used it because they were frustrated with Windows, so it's legit

https://massgrave.dev/

I do computer repair/tech support for just a small business. I haven't used Windows on a a personal machine in a looong time, but that script helps me when I get stuck at work

Yoo check out my other comment. I play a brown noise through a subwoofer (no speakers) under my bed. It sounds exactly like the warp engines

Ayy I loved that game

Check out an app called Parallel Space. I used it once to have two accounts in a game ages ago. It's been a while so I don't know how it's going now, but it worked pretty well when I used it

I'm a reddit refugee who always lurked. Hah I'm trying to be more active on Lemmy so imma take that as a compliment

Man I know, and I tried them. None of them were quite right, they didn't accomplish what I wanted. Like the sound on the show is just a little different in real life. Part of it I think, is the treble (insert tribble joke)

It really all clicked when I fucked up and broke the speakers so it's all coming from the subwoofer

Don't touch it! I've been working at a repair shop for a while, leave it unplugged and write down the pin.

If you want more specific advice, let me know the model of the phone. Most phones should power on if the battery is removed and it's plugged in. I can talk you through data recovery if you want

Logitech z313 is what I got, I just checked my order history and it was like $57. I'm going to try to track down a link for the audio file I use. I have the file, but I don't remember the source

Cloudflare has a free tier for domains, although they're a little sketch. But they also support DDNS, so which updates the IP that your domain points to when it changes

Maybe you could sync the file with Syncthing or Nextcloud. And sqlite is the default android db type... I'm tempted to give it a shot, I just started looking for a solid self hosted note taking thing

Whaat? I'm sending this comment from a Zenfone 9 with an unlocked bootloader. It's not too difficult

I work at a computer repair shop, Everything is a game changer

Oh shit I missed that news completely. I got mine in April and rooted it right away. Thanks for the heads up. I'm going to block updates and really avoid a full reset

Until they are nuked as they should be

Hell yeah dude, same! I just re-downloaded that a month ago!

Hey I've been looking for someone to ask, and you seem to know, is Lemmy.world cool?

Also no I didn't solve that problem, I'm using an app called blackplayer, every ten hours it fades in and out for like a three second period. That's on my to-do list to fix, but not a priority because it doesn't bother me too much

That'd probably be fine. I mean I haven't tested it a lot, but I think the secret sauce is just that it's all bass from the subwoofer. Let me know how it goes

Oh shit it's Scott Aukerman's evil twin

You definitely can. Podcast Addict has per podcast override settings

I don't have a good primary source, its been a lot of disparate googling. But if you have any questions at all, let me know. I love helping

Broken how? I work at a computer repair shop, and I've worked on dozens upon dozens of phones. I have different advice based on if it's the screen, digitizer, or whatever that's not working
