Watch some of the interviews in his home office. Dude is a happy dad with a nice family. Meanwhile a lot of tech billionaires are miserable. I'd say the respect he's earned by not selling out is worth more than mainstream success. Linux and Linus are just the right size.

Governments are terrible at legislating in the tech and information space. It almost always results in terrible laws that don't even come close to doing what they intended.

I don't like facebook and i certainly don't give a shit if they lose money but you can't force them to buy news articles and deliver them to non-paying users.

Yes. Slava Ukraine

Love it. . IMO opinion self hosted instances are the coolest thing about federated social media and it's part of how we will take back the internet from the corporations that have captured it.

I bought 20 of these for a project and over the course of a few months 4-5 of them have failed. Luckily they are just used to shuttle data that is backed up.

The update can only be run using a windows machine and it's very buggy. Can't really trust the drives even after the firmware update.

This is a weird debate for me. I do feel like I'm able to coordinate and communicate with my coworkers more effectively in person. Especially with people I don't already have a close working relationship with. On the other hand i hate being at an office when i could be making lunch and doing laundry while being on a call.

The solution is for people who care about the news to start paying some small amount of money to support responsible news. Look at NPR or PBS but fuck paying corporate news outlets to bait me with outrage porn.

Torrents, Bicycles and Self Hosting. Stop complaining about the soup at the soup kitchen and make yourself some dinner.

Canada is getting wrecked at the moment. Tough to watch.

A little-known company in California’s high desert will deliver a new prototype aircraft to help the US military train its pilots against advanced stealth fighters.

Tehachapi-based Sierra Technical Services (STS) was awarded a $77.1 million Pentagon contract on 4 August to deliver a prototype uncrewed aerial target aircraft capable of replicating the flight characteristics of the most-advanced enemy fighter jets.

“Key amongst these characteristics”, according to the Pentagon, “is size, signature and electronic attack payloads.”

Those attributes “significantly impact acquisition, tracking and guidance of anti-air systems”, the Pentagon contract announcement with STS notes, saying the fifth-generation traits must be “adequately represented” in a target platform to ensure proper testing.

STS has previously described its experimental 5th Generation Aerial Target (5GAT) as a “high-performance, unmanned, fighter-size aircraft” meant to be “threat representative”, including low observability.

The "Fediverse" does need to work on making the concepts a little easier to digest for non-technical users.

I've got a pretty solid pciture of it in my head now but it took a few days of poking around and trying different things before it clicked.

My comment was meant to imply that Elon Musk is talked about far more than he deserves. Especially when most of what he does is meant to troll or generally antagonize people. We have to stop letting disingenuous and downright dastardly people infect our daily conversations.

I'm not sure how to remove it.

Anytime.

Who cares. Moving on.
