I can only guess its because of the fear of getting sued for sexual assault. The details of the story unfortunately dont matter, many folks just read the headlines and theyll just remember "helping them will get you sued"

The difference was far smaller than i anticipated, so im mildly relieved. Hopefully, should i be right, we manage to dispell these fears

The comment section of sh.itjust.works is much more understanding of the issue at hand than those from lemmy.world. Crazy how opposite they are. They do showcase a prominent disagreement with the beehaw mods actions, but nonetheless remain respectful in their opinions. At least compared to lemmy.world which stance was basically "lol they shot themselves in the foot".

Thats awesome. Glad i was wrong

Imagine how its gonna be when we refederate with lemmy.world 😵‍💫

I like how it has a different color for its hexagon. It does make it distinct enough to look like the "main" icon.

Really like it myself, tbh. The cowboy hat does look more like a crown.

I dont see it that way. Software improvements can be pretty stagnant if there is a slow influx of new users. A good dose of new redditors will expose the main issues with the platform, and thats a good thing imo. Defederation is now on the spotlight for many users who were clueless about it, and that helps development since awareness can bring volunteer work onto said issues more quickly.

I was looking at the reddit protest stream when it happened. Since it only says it reopened, i was a bit sad that such a huge sub would withdraw their desicion.

This makes more sense, and its awful.

Ive been obsessed with The Witness for a few weeks now. Some puzzles are so damn tricky but figuring them out is so pleasurable. This is one of the few puzzle games im actually trying to solve on my own instead of relying on walkthroughs so the experience is very fulfilling

The following question:

In your opinion, has Beehaw gotten less enjoyable to use since you joined?

Has some answers that confuse me. The options:

  • No, the site has not gotten less enjoyable

  • Have not observed a difference

Sound identical to me. I could see that the former implies its equal or better than before, while the latter states its just equal. But there is another option: "Actually, the site has gotten more enjoyable", which clearly states its better than before.

If an option states no change, and another states improvement, I see no reason why there is an option which implies both.

I know Boost is going to become a Lemmy app. You can even "preorder" it on the playstore and itll download on your device as soon as its released.

Also to uncollapse them you have to tap the comment from the right side, otherwise youll go to their profile page. Perhaps the user link could be deactivated if the comment is collapsed.

Huh i wasnt aware of the advice of counsel defense. Seems like the conditions are effective in blocking misuse of said defense. I do wonder if there has been a big case where this has been used succesfully, bc it doesnt really sound like a good strategy, even if we consider a less crazy context than this one.

Same. Im already within more communities than i ever had subreddits. Theres simply more to talk about here imo. The platform just needs to grow a little bigger and well have the ultra-niche communities not be complete ghost towns. Cant wait!

black pawns unionize and refuse to participate in battle until they get better healthcare

Exactly, thats why i disagree with naming new instances as "feddit". Sure, lemmy could be considered a "federated reddit" but at some point we should be able to detach it from that simplification.

Goddamn i needed to read that. Very infuriating to read the quotes saying "Youre going against the point of federation guys. Were supposed to be open for big corporations to harvest our data". Glad to know someone refutes those claims and explains why we are wary of meta

(its about time we start to develop the board)

Oh my god the protags of dw worst movies should be the antagonists of story mode, trying to conquer dw by winning the race and become the next ceo just to force another movie of their shitty ip.

Imagine will smith fish saying midrace "if i win, my movie is gonna reference among us. And covid 19." And his victory dance is him flossing.

Correct me if im wrong: If we add up all personal use cases, we get a number hihger than 100%. Same thing with professional use cases. That means users didnt choose just one option in the survey, but multiple. So adding up all distros will give us an inflated number, where there could easily be duplicates (e.g. someone chose both ubuntu and arch. That should be one vote for linux instead of two).

Unfortunate situation, but I understand the lack of tools to deal with it left you guys no choice.

Do you happen to know how long this defederation is going to take? Or rather, are tools being developed as we speak or still being discussed? Im glad this is temporary yet if its gonna be like this for years itd prove to be very limiting and isolating.

I also understand its not easy to give the mod position to anyone who requests it, but id encourage you to look for the right people in a more vehement manner. It would be downright frustrating if this situation happens again due to a lack of manpower.

One last thing: The defederation being effective Inmediately was very detrimental to users who subscribed to comms from those instances. Its already shocking to lose access to a comm you were a part of, a heads up and a couple hours/a day would help many of us be at least aware of the situation and not be blindsighted by it. I understand the pressure to do it asap, but i still think it should be notified beforehand.

This is the closest to time travel you'll experience.

I really hope something good comes out of this situation. Would really suck if reddit gets away with it and users obligue and go back to the official app.

This saves me an extension, but i dont see it fully solving the issue of "its not clear its opens the overview" that the activities button had. Someone recommended to include a tip in gnome tour so that might help to solve it.

In the mockup, a suggestion was made which i think looks very interesting in the animation they provided

sublemmy

We call them communities in this side of the web.

I see. Thank you for the clarification.

This is outrageous. Im shiddin and farthin. We need to put a stop to this level of abuse ASAP!

been rocking silverblue and then its ublue variant for a while. This sounds very interesting and definitely worth checking out.

I love how ostree lets you rebase to any other ostree image with no issue. The switch is just a matter of rpm-ostree rebase something something and its as painless as it gets

Yeah its broad enough to fit them all. We just need Windows and Macos user to post their stuff on there.

What is this meme alluding to? can i get a tldr?

If its not too nosy to ask: What do most denied requests look like? Like, did they not answer the question or were they being dicks?

drop the 5. what are you left with

All my games work the same as a non inmutable distro. Steam, Lutris, Heroic, Bottles, Retroarch, all those apps are on flathub, so ive never felt limited in that regard.

An annoyance i had with steam flatpak is when you configure multiple locations for installing games on the same drive. Steam will just show them all as "/var/cache/" no matter what youve actually set them to.

From what ive read, Steam flatpak is not an option for you. Bazzite is a variant of Silverblue but it has set up an arch container with the latest version of steam. They did this bc they considered it to use too many undesirable workarounds. Maybe that could work for you.

This app is more equivalent to flatpak uninstall --delete-data

My grief with articles like this is that their "X is not there yet" statement rarely comes off as "It has rough edges but its improving", but always as "This product is flawed. Dont even bother".

And itd be fine if it's just someone's opinion, but here it's someone's opinion in a news article. The effect is that someone unaware of the fediverse will read that, assume that opinion is fact and never try the platform. Not only that, they'll also start stating the same opinion to others as if they experienced it first-hand..

Articles should bridge the gap of knowledge! Stop dissuading people from trying new stuff and encourage them to give it a go!

Sure, promoting lemmy as a drop-in replacement of reddit is downright dishonest. But it never hurts to create an account and see what the fuss is about. The article should work as a heads up to avoid headaches, not the website altogether.

Who knows, maybe it will be a perfect replacement for you, despite everything. I know it was for me.

That sounds like a bug, no?
