All of these AI prompts sound like begging. We're begging computers to do things for us now.

I checked one of the 5-star reviews, at the end:

That being said, it's nothing amazing. It's just fine, it does what it does. I have nothing against it.

High praise indeed.

Also Aussie sites often cover news in the UK.

I love how much Star Trek gets into everything around here

I haven't heard of this before, but why is a reader a threat to a company? What's the issue?

I really want to push the What's Cool! button

It's not FOSS but I've been using Photopea since I ditched Adobe years ago, it's a decent alternative.

Sillions.

Same with Australia. Seems a bit disingenuous to say it's banned, it's a government worker policy.

The most common gesture I've been missing up to this point is swipe to hide. Now it's back and I'm so happy!

Came for this

This looks like a list of apps I'm trying to move away from

I used to use Windows a long time ago, it was always slow and crap. I also tinkered with Linux but I don't want to spend my free time (and some of my work time) troubleshooting. I like the idea of Linux, but for most people it isn't there yet. Windows is just bad.

Apple has created a situation where, for better or worse, they are both the software and hardware. Yes, you're locked in and pay for the name, all of that, but also they work. Really well. No troubleshooting, no bloat or slowing down. That's what people pay for.

They should remake the 1989 version

Nirajisms

Ew.

What if I don't use Assistant? Does it still have access to other parts of my phone?

Is this the best open source doc editor? I'm slowly degoogling and using drive/docs is a hard one to move away from. Can LO open Google docs?

It's pretty interesting so far! I'm coming from Reddit Sync and now using Jerboa so it's quite similar but also a lot of things aren't where I expect them 😆

I do web dev and UX so definitely agree with the onboarding process being a little clunky for users.

I had no idea what the fediverse was until Lemmy so getting your head around it can be a bit much at the start. I was lucky to find a local server (instance? Not sure on terminology) so no delay issues.

And for any newbies this link is very helpful: https://browse.feddit.de.

I do miss the size of Reddit at times, but that's likely to drop now anyway with all the buggering around they're doing.

Ha! Yep

So what's the alternative if this is no good? Is there a FOSS Slack?

Just to be controversial, macos. It's nothing fancy, just the arrs and Jellyfin running on an old MacBook air.

The first part is my first name, and I used to be in a punk band called Suspect Package.

I feel like I'm the only one who still reverts navigation to the 3 dots and doesn't use any of the new stuff they're releasing.

This taskbar looks like it's going to make things happen without me wanting them to, I hope we can turn it off.

I've got the 6 Pro. I cracked the screen which sucked, but for the price they should probably come with a cover.

The fingerprint scanner on the screen works less than half the time. The only thing I've really been impressed with is the camera, other than that I'd go any other phone.

I used to have a Xiaomi Rednote 9 Pro and loved it. Not sure how secure Xiaomi stuff is but was very happy with it, plus the fingerprint scanner was on the side and worked much better.

Where I'm from most people drive manuals, then I moved to Aus and autos were more popular but I stuck with manuals mostly as I wasn't a fan of the clunkiness in autos. EVs are completely different to automatics, they drive so smoothly and they're great. I say that as a life-long manual driver.

I forgot these existed! I always wanted one...

That would be awesome if people could just make their own algorithms, like when people say 'just start your own instance'. Don't like the way algorithm A does things? Try B or C, or make your own! I could see some weird filtering options appearing...

It reminds me of 3D

I assume all trailers on YouTube are fake

If a free haircut makes me look like Zuckerberg, no thanks.

Oh, no disrespect intended! Where I come from though we use cheese instead of curds, it's practically a national dish.

Agreed, I set up an account on Mastodon when everyone first left Twitter (not that I use Twitter much either) but didn't understand the fediverse back then. I wish there was a way to see if anyone I follow is on Mastodon but I guess that functionality went with the APIs.

I wonder if it's when it switched to the Gutenberg editor maybe?

Hey Quillpad is great! Thanks for the suggestion. Keep is one of those small google apps that 'just works' so I've expecting them to get rid of it or something. Wish there was a way to export from Keep into Quillpad and we'd be good.

Yeah but it's a trade off; if you want to tinker go Linux, if you want an OS that works really well with the hardware it was designed for go Mac. Not sure why anyone would use windows honestly.

Hey we are flying!

I don't get the appeal of YouTube. I use it for maybe the odd music video or something, but often you'll just get someone's annoying commentary instead of the actual thing.

I live without it and it's great! Try it.

I used to love getting floppy disks on the front of magazines 💾

For some reason I had high hopes for The Munsters but.. what was that? It was shot like a college media project.
