Cory Doctorow has a solution: put some pebbles in your shoes, that will change the way you walk right away.

Renting by itself would be fine, it's just that there's barely any rent control in North America, and you're constantly at the mercy of your landlord, inflation and general greed. Put national standards for renter protection and rent increases in place and this would be much less of a problem.

Emotional Support Vehicle

Air Canada has changed all my flights in the last three years. They are especially fond of selling me a direct flight, then canceling that one and moving me to a connecting flight with worse departure and longer travel times.

Little Brother I think.

Harry looks too well put together.

I think 79 is supposed to be the last year for gen X.

I looked at the Ford Canada page - the smallest vehicle in the line up was the Mustang, most were trucks or should big SUVs. Then I looked at the Ford Switzerland page - lots of reasonable cars of all sizes, basically zero trucks.

They make them, they just don't sell them here. It's bullshit.

I don't think that would work. Individual Starlink satellites are cheap, and they launch dozens at a time.

The only way to regulate my intake is not to buy them.

Your own practical Jesus...

We had this in Switzerland for a while, but it wasn't very popular.

Is that the chairdog equivalent of horsecart?

Been using Ubuntu for gaming for 99% of the time for half a year now. Basically no issues, most of my steam library works out of the box with proton. It's very doable now, no need to wait.

All i want is an affordable plug in hybrid station wagon :(

Klaus.

The humans are going to train the UAVs.

Motorola One Action. Close to stock Android, good enough for what i need, and it was cheap. That last one was the real reason to get it, if I'm honest...

Edit: Seeing mentions of the fairphone, i looked into that but when i needed a new phone, the existing version (2?) Was quite outdated. It's a contender for my next phone, though. Hopefully not for a while.

Wouldn't it make sense to minimize that disadvantage then? There will always be people who have no other choice but rent, so they should be protected from exploitation. And stronger renter protection could cool down the housing market, because it makes being a landlord work multiple properties less attractive. Win-win if you ask me.

What's the typical reaction to that? Bring honest like that doesn't sound like a winning strategy, unless you pass it off as a joke maybe.

Had a similar thought. Not necessarily bamboo, but whatever plant offers the best time to carbon captured ratio. Then stash it in old mines (salt mines ideally), and flood the mines for additional assurance that decomposition won't happen. It doesn't scale well, I think, because you're dependent on the right conditions for storage, and creating storage places artificially doesn't sound like it would be very effective.

Rasputin?

Technically yes?

Thanks for taking the time to answer!

Bought a C$500 6750xt on Newegg a while ago, it still comes up for that price a lot.

I've run across the term biochar a few times recently, but didn't think anything of it. Thanks for prompting me to look into it seriously!

Still using a t420 daily (not for heavy with though), and it's fine. If you don't have an SSD yet, that's the first thing I'd change.

Eh, mine runs fine. Only thing that bothers me is the crap display.

Oh yeah, mine lasts 30 minutes max, but for a home laptop that's fine.

Oh yeah, no question.

I really wish more European manufacturers would sell cars in North America. Much more interesting selection...

Hmm, I'm in Canada, but that could be worked out. I guess the other question is if it's compatible with the networks here?

Built a new desktop a while back, and i decided to go Linux first for this one. Haven't gamed a ton, but everything I've tried just worked without issues (steam/proton). I'ml pretty happy with it!

I still have a Windows partition, but i only use that for Battletech with mods and anything i can't run on Linux. Haven't booted into that one in weeks...

I probably won't going forward, if I can avoid it. But there's always that timer of hope that this time, it's different... and it's not like WestJet is much better. So I try to avoid flying altogether now, for other reasons as well.

Still holding off on a second play through of Disco Elysium until memory fades some more. But there are some fantastic "oh fuck" story beats in there that just won't hit the same the second time.

In the same vein, Star Crash is one of my terrible favorites. With David Hasselhoff and a guy that stole the hair from David Hasselhoff.

I'm on my second battery, this has been my main personal computer (gaming aside) for over ten years. Maybe it deserves one more extension on life... I'll think about it!
