I make things with computers. Preferably artsy things, but I also like to work on random scripts and pipelines. I like D&D & video games, but don't always have time to play them. I like pet chicken. I watch soccer, especially NWSL & USWNT, as well as some WSL and whatever happens to be on.

Yea, that sounds like it sucked. Glad it didn't happen to me.

Oh man, I loved my Surface Pro 3. I used it as my main device for home and work for years. Not invalidating your experience... I've used devices that others thought were great that I thought were garbage.

Is there anyone who likes reading code more than writing it?

I once took over an app that worked like this. Access to one thing? Access to everything! And they had a hard coded admin password in the server code. 🤦 The client wasn't happy when I proposed a complete rewrite. Eventually my manager begged me to stop working with them, so we did.

I guess I'm a shit landlord, because I'm still charging the same as 5 years ago.

Omg, did you just invent MicroAI's? I love it. Huge potential.

Huge eyeroll. There was a writers strike. To make up for all the new content that's not available, Netflix acquired a bunch of old stuff that may be new to subscribers.

Closeup picture of one of our hens. They have such cool patterns and colors.

Warhammer 40k Mechanicus Oh damn, it's -76% off right now on Steam. Yes, I think I will be checking it out, thank you!

I mean, what cow wouldn't want to have sperm shoved up it's apparently not privates to be continuously impregnated. Sounds like a party

I wish people felt about child labor the way they felt about AI

It's actually 3 kobolds in a trenchcoat

I like how the code adds a 0 at the start.

Waves 3D printed wand... Magic also no workie in real world 😖

I feel like this is a weird take. Children will play good games and discard bad games. They may not do research before asking for a game from a beloved brand, but the same is likely true for many adults.

Huh, I can't think of a single time I've accidentally bitten a fork or spoon. I can't even think of a way that it would happen. Now I'm curious if this happens to others?

Whenever we cross state lines we raise our hands and go "whoop, whoop." I have no idea when this started, but it brings us joy whenever we're on a road trip.

What are the specs? Dimensions, resolution, format... Can it be animated?

No

4 player co-op in Minecraft Dungeons, with the whole family, this year. I fucking love same device co-op games, but there are hardly any good options anymore, because apparently most people are either single or don't like being in the same room as their partner or friends.

I use the travel case if I take it anywhere, but I haven't seen any need for a protective case.

Galaxy S24 Ultra. I got really pissed off at the Pixel 7 Pro and bought this on a (very costly) whim. But this is the first phone I really like since the Note 9. The screen is gorgeous. The software is better than stock android on the Pixel. And it can actually make phone calls!

I really liked Earthless, which is similar to Cobalt Core but adds grid movement.

Galactic Glitch was pretty fun, too.

ColorSpace is annoyingly challenging, in an addicting sort of way.

I also played a lot of 'Survivors' games. Most of them sucked, and surprisingly few worked well on Steam Deck, but Sea of Survivors was fun.

Pinball Spire https://store.steampowered.com/app/2601940/Pinball_Spire/

The demo is short, but it plays well on deck.

Thanks for the explanation!

The roguelike I keep coming back to these days is Dome Keeper. Resource mining + fighting monsters + casual play duration is a combo I find hard to beat at the moment.

Oh snap. Haven't played in a while, but co-op is just the thing I didn't know I needed.

Fair enough. I started with 3.5 and the PHB does have a section on the battle grid, though of course it's never listed as a requirement, only an aid. I think there are certain times the grid really helps the strategy, both in tabletop and video game scenarios. Something as simple as 'I want to block this doorway'. With the grid, it's very obvious which squares need to be occupied. With a GM at the table I suppose you could just say 'I block the doorway'. But, at least so far, every time I've tried to block a doorway in BG3 (limited play time, granted), they've just moved right past me, making me look rather foolish, and usually leading to my early demise.

Yep, I use for Xbox cloud gaming on steam deck.

Sweet, thanks for the info

With my focus going to the hunched over person, all I could see is zombies emerging from the fog

This is really easy to test in fairly small social groups. The next time you're in a group ordering pizza, say you want cheese, because you don't eat meat. Now watch everyone else order, or change their order to, double meat supreme with bacon. It's almost like they can't help themselves. It's hilarious how easy you can change other people's behavior.

Yea, the games I mentioned are all turn based, so I'm not sure that immersion is really what I'm looking for. I will say that the opening combats in BG3 felt very chaotic, and I guess more immersive, but I also felt like I made a lot of dumb mistakes because I was treating it more like a shooter/hack & slash, rather than thinking my moves through.

I've been waiting for this for so long! The first one was so gripping. Already purchased and downloaded, just need the work day to end...

Check out Solasta. It's the closest a video game has come to giving me the D&D feels.

The Note 2 was my favorite phone. The replaceable back with the cover option was the best. Want your phone to look brand new? That'll only cost $20.

I never replaced the battery though.

I friggin love Solasta. Our tabletop D&D game kind of fell apart, and this was the first thing I found that gave me that D&D vibe. My wife liked it right away, too, so this gave us some quality together play time.

The graphics & acting probably don't come close to BG3, but I honestly don't care. The battles are very fun. I think the UI is easier to understand and use than BG3, at least to start. Main actions, bonus actions, spells, etc. are all very clearly marked. Another fun feature is that you can create characters outside of games, and level them up, too. I've spent a good amount of time just making characters, looking for interesting results. At in person games I tend to always play the same kind of character, but being able to explore lots of different classes in an easy way was a big unexpected bonus of the game.

There's also a ton of user created content.

It often goes on sale for $15. Definitely worth checking out.

BG1&2 weren't turn based, so I don't think it's quite the same thing. I did enjoy both of those games though, in their own right. What's CCG?

Oh gosh, I vaguely remember the pausing & queueing up action thing. I usually played 2 player, and I'm trying to remember if that paused everyone or not.

Yea, I saw Midnight Suns as a mashup between something like XCom and a CCG. I haven't played too many CCGs, though I did enjoy Slay the Spire. I see the cards as adding some randomness to the game, but as far as the tactical positioning it doesn't really change things for me. I remember the environment actually factoring in quite a bit... pushing people into things, or throwing things. I guess the lack of grid didn't really hurt that, but I wonder if I would have enjoyed it more if the grid had been there. Ultimately I don't know if it's the grid itself, or just a fundamental shift in style of gameplay that leads to me not enjoying these games as much.

I was going to get this, but then read that the new DRM made it unplayable on deck. Is that not true?

I actually carried a 7 inch tablet in my pocket before it was cool, bezels and all. This was back on Android 2.3 when people would moan about tablet UIs and say that it's just a giant phone, to which I would say: Yea, and having a giant phone is awesome.
