On hiatus if not gone from beehaw. Beehaw was good in theory, but they are similar to the east coast liberals mlk jr wrote about. Centists for religion aint my cup of tea, considering all the harm it has and continues to cause. It doesn't make a queer feel safe at all.

The people who accept these trade-offs are not normal, and they’re in charge

so this is just inflammatory?

Seriously, I have been trying and slowly learning as Linux too has been developed to be more user friendly, am I "failing"?

This is a really poor take by someone it feels like spent more time on this post and the complaints than trying at all to adapt to the new place.

Like this bit:

So what does Mastodon bring to the table in addition to Twitter, that might justify someone deciding to take the plunge and move to it? There are a few unique things about the platform, but they generally fall into the broad category of “things users don’t care about”. Chief among these is decentralisation.

You wat? I want a place to talk to people, REAL PEOPLE, about topics (and that can be searched using hashtags, which you can).

The point of Mastodon is it isn't Twitter but offers a lot of the socializing of twitter! What?!

They really let just anyone post anything.

Discord. God I hated how I was one of my friends that got everyone to switch, and now I'm the first one out. I don't think they have added a feature that hasn't been an annoyance for a while, and after a year of no mobile notifications working and their staff being incompetent (especially if you are a free user) I'm just over it.

Everyone worshipping it is kind of a turn off too. It's a service y'all, I've had everything from AIM to Slack and I'm sure there will be a million others. Worshipping a corp is gross.

Omg I would have absolutely no script for that. They would get the blankest expression and something snarky like "it was impressive how Nestle was able to get market share on water and baby formula in the African market" but knowing my luck I'd probably get unironicly hired with that line when I was trying to be sarcastic. 😭

I appreciate the work you all do. Im a heavier lurker than particpater and i see little fingers of you all taking care of beehaw for us all the time and it makes me smile 😁 good work everyone!

I never was going to be able to get one of these cars anyway, so I didn't look into them until recently, I was shocked how little oversight and testing the selfdriving has.

Looking into it, using that tech unassisted feels about as mad as getting in a rando's submarine...

I come from a different point-of-view that I support the question portion, but I did find it hindered me slightly. Only because of my own anxiety, not because it's a bad idea.

I mostly wanted to reply how the handling of my application was really personable, in case anyone else is lurking and finds it intimidating, like I did for a week or two. It's not a college thesis and I imagine those running beehaw want more people to make the place more bustling.

I think the little question bit being there will lead to a better environment overall. I'm outing myself, but back in my roleplay forum days the ones with a bit of an application process had better quality engagement. Ymmv, of course.

I have had independent contractors offer it as an option, but most still have a phone number or have too many customers who aren't tech savvy enough to use something like that. There's really no way a reputable business in my area would survive that way.

Have had nothing but a reasonable bump here or there, I am absolutely thrilled to be here and hope that the expectations you're explaining will finally be understood.

I'm close to someone spinning up a matrix instance and it's absolutely a ton of work and knowledge and troubleshooting and problem solving and just goddamn duct tape and hope on some of this fediverse stuff.

Thanks so much to all the team for the work you all do and I'm sorry for the inevitable of flood of "know it all" posts from people barely able to sign in wanting you to "make it all like reddit". 😩

You should look more into the story and into the occupancy before you start taking random moral stances cause you want to be rich one day.

We are a global people. We could do more, and we actively don't. We should all be ashamed and just because it makes you feel uncomfortable or helpless doesn't mean you have to rationalize the shame of our species.

We need to face it if we'll ever change it.

I have more than one partner, I met them both in hobby spaces, not dating spaces. Dating online has become easier in some aspects and harder in others.

Over my experience, the apps have shittified too and are basically useless for connection. One person I met on an MMO, the other I met in an online support group.

We stay together because we love each other but we are also each other's chosen family. We have a deep respect and friendship before hand.

We're also all also neurodivergent as shit and queer so we just don't have any real games and talk bluntly with one another, for good or ill.

One relationship is over ten years old the other is almost five. It was about finding who wants the same thing in life and it really required being able to be honest with myself about who I am and what I offer.

It isn't easy. We are way past new relationship energy. But the work in a relationship that is worth is never feels like a poor investment.

Starting the fun task of looking for work. Have a few prospects but god i just wish i had another option. Still, im not at risk of being back homeless and i got some time to rest so i should be grateful. I just had hoped i would be more mentally healthy before i had to go back, you know?

You don't see an issue with a MOD starting with

Can we please move beyond this 2010 New Atheism view

That's really not something a mod should say and pretty much dismissing an opinion without even engaging it. I guess atheists are just ok to dismiss and deny an opinion?

So you should just be left to die if you get shot while committing a crime?

I’ve just never heard of anyone trying to dismiss a game for being a JRPG

And I remember the 2000s where that was common among gamer culture. So what now?

This doesn't surprise me. I'm always so nervous, every driver seems so distracted. I hear everyone wants to keep their autonomy to drive, (this is in theory if autonomous driving was safe or the roads had rails for example) but they also want to look at their phones and do other shit. 😩

The unfortunate reality is the threat or actual use of violence is what they listen to.

The irony that we never here of the scale of violence for Left causes like this never seems to be found but ya know "both sides". 👀

Nuh uh. "Losing My Religion" by R.E.M. still feels surreal and sad for my heart.

I was raised particularly southern, like three denomination deep Protestant, (that only existed because some people argued if you should speak in tongues in church or if that would be "distracting from the lawd".) And my family participated in the activities so I was forced to attend EVERY SUNDAY AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT until I was 18.

I don't have a lot of good things to say about it. After I realized I only tried to follow it cause of where I was born (and what measure of truth is that?) I started to address each moral question as it came and settle it myself based off of morality I could stomach.

A lack of belief is easy when I've seen nothing to believe, in fact I used to feel alone in it. Eventually I realized I cannot fake it, and what reason would there be, what diety would accept it?

I am in love with the character portraits and it looks amazing. I am absolutely thrilled to see this coming and I just hope it runs well enough or the Switch Pro comes out so these can run without chugging, my original doesn't like Arceus sometimes...

It feels dishonest to say it isn't drivers. You could see them coming from the sides more if you pay more attention?

Is driving with a blind spot NOT something we are taught to check and eliminate and are the fault of the driver to chose that vehicle/not adjusting or getting mirrors, not driving slower, etc?

I think we're lying to ourselves if we don't think people could do better.

So what this says is basically you can say anything to anyone, as long as you don't intend to see them physically? We have no right to tell someone to stop contacting us, everyone has a right to access people, no matter how abusive, if they don't really mean to do it (based on self reporting of the stalker to their intentions, NOT off of any level of what they said).

I bet i would have officers at my door if everyone in the supreme court's families got these sorts of messages from me repeatedly, from throw away accounts and bots, even if i had no intention of doing more than that.

Harassment just isn't a thing anymore for normal people i guess. Everyone celebrating the other hand down the SC did today missed the horrifying one.

Your generation does the job listing that requires that generation to get a degree?

The irony of "i got mine during a better economy, fuck them kids" is a stance you are proud of.

Biggest thing for me is mindfulness in whatever I'm doing. It's such a difference between "I am going to relax" and "I am staying busy relaxing to avoid processing my feelings".

Usually a hot bath is my go-to. It's helpful to have some music and quiet to ponder why I am compressed, what changes need to be made, or if I just need time to be allowed to feel.

We got the most change when we had the most bricks unfortunately...

The truth is the Right goes to violence first, but the Nazi's didn't get to win last time and I hope so again.

I'm not sure why "I don't want to see a space become an echo chamber" is always what gets said. Everywhere else IS a right wing echo chamber for the most part? Conservatives aren't the ones chased from reddit and twitter?

What probably isnt welcome is questioning people's right to exist, right to live unmolested because of someone else's beliefs (and real molested, not "i saw a minority existed), and the right to make your own medical choices for yourself and your kids. Considering means testing has been proven a waste and the right opposes taxing fair share, i wouldn't even argue that actual financial conservation is even a point the party makes.

So it's really hard to see what need this space has for those talking points. Unless it's actually about being open to real discussion, which frankly facts aren't often on the side of the right, what good to this community do these ideas offer?

What should be asked is what place does the Right/Conservative philosophy as a whole have in the Lemmy ethos? Is it in and of itself could be argued to be an antithesis to the whole structure and philosophy. Can authoritarian ideals thrive where they cannot take power?

I live near a major city, most people haven't had to learn anything like that over their existence: we have good cell phone reception over wifi too, perhaps that is it.

Tech is just not reliable enough for me to have any experience working with anyone who I would take seriously or who would work with anyone like that. I thought you should know your experience isn't the norm, especially in any place I have been in the USA.

Almost anyone who approached with Whatapp is seen as poor, fly-by-night, and likely a grift here. "Why not use your phone number if you are trustworthy?" Would be the opinion here.

Thanks for sharing that tip, I'm working with someone doing a small instance and we aren't for sure we want to be allowing applications, but if we do this is good to think about!

Rofl yeah cause you and yours definitely had such a hard time. 🙄

I was too but my family was busy fuckin and working in autobody shops. It was nothing keeping them back but themselves.

as true as this is, it means the developers are the ones with more power to stop things being taken over, and clearly as you said, they won't.

truth is it means you can't trust open source devs who touch with for-profit money at all, they're all as corpo and crooked and are willing to sell everyone out for themselves.

Im still frustrated at the lie and gaslighting that bathrooms were ever some strictly gendered space. Growing up, women going into the mens room happened a lot at sport events. Fathers would take their kids into the lady's when the men's didn't have a changing table.

Most people want to do what they need to do an get out.

And if someone's gonna assault you, the swing door with a stick figure with a dress aint gonna stop them.

Considering the popularity of Gaming Grandma, I think it's just the stereotypes. Until recently, even social media was a nerd thing that brought out thoughts of smelly social rejects not respecting social spaces.

The internet is only just now not for social rejects, gaming being labeled for kids and something you outgrow seems to be an individual choice brought on ( often as I see) to peer pressure to stop in the first place.

I'd say there's not a cut off, people just have some really shit opinions about things they should just stfu about. I grew up in the South and I abandoned trying to follow the minds of judgemental folks a long time ago. Half the time they're just jealous you live your life and they haven't managed to keep their personality after getting married and having kids. 😂

I was thrilled to see it wasn't simply dismissed on a technicality like... A few felt like they mostly ended up dismissed on "hey this is so bad I'll lose my job as a judge to accept it even if I agree so come back with a better write up". 😩

Right? Be the change you want to see in the world OP!

I'm almost through it. I'm enjoying it, but yeah some of the kid's shows "we are our weakness again and have to re-learn some lessons" happens and it took over half the season to even feel like we had a big bad despite that being what they are chasing.

I don't know if it is Avatar comparison is fair, but I have been enjoying watching it while playing a more casual game. To compare it to another show I liked Kipo narratively better, but I am still enjoying seeing the characters grow up and curious where it's going to go.

This season is very heavy with characters dealing with racism and microagressions and while they handle it well a few times even I felt my heart was heavy because of how close the parallel is to how we interact in real life. I think they cover bigotry pretty well.

I think the content creators who have a lot of the technical information that reddit has been used for, moving off site, it's at least going to become a cesspool.

Is Twitter a success now, as it is? Is money with no reputation or morality, success? Facebook is still around, but arguably is is successful, useful, and relevant?

Hoy~ I'm not really a refugee from anywhere in particular, I've been slowly squeezed out of social spaced for a few years now. I love people, but it's hard to want to participate when you get shouted down. Hopefully I've found a nice place here with y'all, it definitely feels inviting!

I have a lot of labels that can be of various levels of usefulness, but I think if those closest were to to be asked about me "kind" is the first word that would come to mind. I took the "do unto others" thing really seriously, even if I ditched the rest.

I'm queer as the day is long and I partially communicate in memes. Most of my time not gaming, I casually work on my dream game in my head. Just a classic nerd from the 90s.

I have felt how you felt. Things actually, with some misogynists, have gotten worse recently in my experience. What that means now there is no uncomfortable peace with these people, now they either require me completely folding or holding my chin to get (metaphorically) punched. I have chosen the later, my pride won't let me be walked over as much anymore. For good and bad.

I have learned to not try and placate. If I am doing that, why stand and have opinions at all? If I just let them talk me into a position that actually isn't my position or softening my position, was I really standing at all?

I also have started trying to be actually gruffer. More in charge and direct the situation. A lot of people don't know how to handle the confidence. For the misogynists against me? I have cut them off (boundaries for acquaintances who are jackoffs) and made sure to cya (cover my ass) like get email or text or something with their lack of engaging, then I have "they let petty opinions get between being professional" which usually businesses/HR will accept and put them in the wrong if all they did before was be disagreeable.

But really, try to drop the self-deprecation if you can. We pick it up to be cute as teens, but it really makes us fail in the workforce and it actually can get really old to be around for everyone. If anything, it makes them think they're right about you (whatever the weird opinion is). If you are a thoughtful person and you have formed your opinions with care, why should you back down at all? Heck, who are they to step to you? Why do THEY have the right to be jackasses just cause they don't like someone? You're the adult trying to do your job. They are being unprofessional!

It sucks your boss let that person undermine you. If you can, I would personally ask my boss to direct everything to me, and make the person either act out and get reprimanded or they get on board.

I wish you luck. I don't get along with as many people anymore, sometimes it sucks, but those who rise above the rest are more worth it.

yup! I also know there are some in 'safe' social groups who make the threats because they, as a member of that group, never (or so rarely they aren't ACTUALLY worried) get attacked. But the groups they use death threats against DO experience such violence, (a fact that the free speech absolutist will argue against, while not even listening to the facts of the matter) and at the very least, I know I second guess the effort of engaging anyone who is willing to threaten to hurt me specifically. Or a question the value of talking with someone like that.

So that is why free speech absolutists LIKE being allowed to make death threats: those who experience violence disengage (or leave) and no one arguing makes them feel in the right. "No one is disagreeing, it means I am correct! It has nothing to do with the shotgun I put in the face of anyone who talks to me!"

It is horrifying.
