In Finnish it's 'vaahtokarkki' which translates to foamcandy.

least brutal 3-year-old/freshly born.

I'm imagining toddlers growing up to hate their parents' music taste, because they already fucking hated it when they played it to them when they were a fetus in utero.

The dad hyped up "fuck yeah I'm gonna teach this kid to love Slayer because I'm playing it to him now when they're in there!". And then they hate it like "THIS IS WHAT THAT SHIT WAS, I HATED IT ALL THE FUCKING TIME, FUCK YOU!"

Seriously. It's an article about dental health...

I just learned that the Amazon tablet/e-reader thing is literally called Amazon Fire. Like... Seriously. It's a little on the nose, no? Like Bezos and his team KNOW and sell this shit to people laughing all the way to the bank and people just line up. I'm so done with this world.

On top of all that, I wonder how much the types of backports they're rooting for would be used to acquire the kind of material pedophiles are after. I mean kids will be kids either way and be stupid and the people that are after kiddie porn seem more likely the type of people to know their way around and stay hidden, because they're literally predators. These backports will be abused by both "the legitimate" side and criminals, so wouldn't having a "special key" to unlock your backdoor put your children in more danger, especially when you're sleeping sound thinking you're safe and therefore not worried about someone, "breaking in". (Is it still breaking in if they have a fucking key?)

Like there was for a while the whole "Play Mozart/Beethoven to your kid in the womb and they'll be smarter" and shit - there's no way everyone universally likes classical music. I know several older people who don't enjoy music at all, which just seems bizarre.

It's not like every kids gonna pop out and be like "That Mozart's Requiem was some shit, man! Play it again!".

And you think if nudity wasn't a taboo people wouldn't be self conscious about anything (ie. their bodies)? Especially considering the acoustics in most showers (hint:even the people who normally can't hear you talk in your home can hear you sing in the shower). Especially considering people are self conscious as hell about their bodies even with clothes on?

A car is a much more private and safe space than a shower.

Not being a dick, just curious what your train of thought here is.

Adding to all of the other comments, I have to add to the music suggestions: You DO NOT even have to learn an instrument. Learn how to make electronic music (you don't have to make techno or other such electronic electronic music. Just lay down a drum track and add a little sound here and another there. YouTube is full of tutorials for full blown DAW's/workstations and the simplest apps. Get Koala Sampler or some other app for your phone or better yet, tablet.

Even simpler, try an app called Keylimba, the default sound is a soothing thumb piano/marimba, and for just a couple euros/bucks you can get a range of instruments, but the marimba is very well enough for a long ass time. With it you can just have the thing loop whatever base you put in and just, pluck a sound here and there. I'm a half-pro musician and I still often find myself just relaxing with it. Making a simple chord structure and just chilljamming away. Music isn't hard and difficult, people/society just approaches it in a really backwards way. Anyone can do music. Sequencers and loopers are such an underrated tool for learning and creativity. You don't have to mind any theory at all, just do what feels good.

I also have to add - meditation. Get a calm album or find one on YouTube that has music you enjoy, or even look up a guided meditation on YouTube, there's tons. Meditation is great if you can find even a moment to focus/unfocus on it.

Led Zeppelin stayed roughly the same, but they had all kinds of influences mixed in from the start to sustain their sound and not get tired.

High on Fire to an extent. Matt Pike is an absolute riff machine and it seemed like every album up til sobriety was just a banger of an album after the other.

Primus I kind of think too, just because they have a very unique sound due to Les's Residentsy vocals and his bass style.

The Smiths? The Fall! Sonic Youth as well. Elliott Smith.

I think it kind of depends on how much you allow and what you see as their sound. You can always find examples and some difference in sound, but for many bands and artists it's more song to song or even producer dependent.

Hell I'd chuck in a band like Kyuss as well, most post-Kyuss projects John Garcia was involved with still sound like Kyuss because he was a massive part of the sound, listen to Slo Burn or Unida and tell me you don't hear Kyuss.

A lot of artists change more drastically, like you can tell if some song is by Nick Cave, but there's a huge difference from album to album, where as The Birthday Party though kind of had a specific sound they stuck to as well even if they explored it a little.

Ooh and Judas Priest in a big way, Motörhead too to an extent.

Good question!

Goddamn it now I want a couch with pockets. For snack, beer/cup holder, all kinds of tiny things. I'd never have to leave again.

Yeah chilhood is insane and super interesting the way we process information and emotions and the weird reality we've just been dragged into.

Oh, hey me!

Art isn't only that though and if that's the point it's going to go unnoticed and unrealized by most people rendering any symbolism or point moot. A circlejerk where people pat themselves on the back on the oh-so-deep symbolism and historical callbacks is not going to change anything but the brunches of some pretentious assholes who think they're saving the world when they're actually doing more harm than good.

This is more like protesting the fur industry by releasing the caged, tortured animals into the wild to wreak more havoc as an invasive species to the enviroment and ecosystem they're released into, but at least people can cheers themselves for making a difference.

The 'Ritual Spirit' EP and The Spoils are some of the best things Massive Attack has ever released and everything they've done is sublime.

No judgement, ceramics is for everybody!

Honestly a latex body suit seems easier to clean too, though I have no experience with that. Just seems you could rinse yourself with a hose after.

I mean have you heard an Australian accent? It's like "this is totally a legit accent, we're speaking English, mate, jabbamawong!" half of it isn't even words they just make it up as they go like they're not being sarcastic.

Never bought it.

They did a whole bunch of these for all/most songs on both albums or just one, can't remember, for some anniversary and they're all absolutely fucking horrible.

Only thing this shit made me think about is how the fight against climate and environmental change is doomed because most people are mentally challenged. And like with the tomato soup protest, that's what most people are going to get out of this. Great, you made the entire fight look like Don Quijote! Good job!

You're more right than you realize, and not so archaic really. The texture of clouds, or even clouds themselves, mostly smaller, frizzy kind of clouds are called "pilvenhattara" where pilven is a possesive form of 'pilvi' - 'cloud' and hattara is kind of an abstract descriptive word, at least today. The translation of 'rag, tatter' is a bit more complex and at least a little unrelated. There might be some historic connection, since 'hattara' is kind of a descriptive word that describes (at least for quite a long time) a kind of specific type of clouds appearance, more so a small cloud that kind of just falls apart. It's more like a frayed rag and the 'hattara' specifically pertains to the raggedness/frayed part - like the actual physical/visual quality of it being kind of frailed or jagged, like a cloud and so it does relate to clouds.

Hattara as a mythological thing is a different thing itself and again, might have some historic connection - my best guess would be that the kind of creature it means is something that is kind of 'frayed' like a vision or a fog ora cloud or something and is only seen for a moment. I'm unfamiliar with that one, though I've read a ton about folk beliefs and mythlogy here.

I feel like it's just overpowered by Playstation and maybe even X-box, I sure remember drooling over all the Nintendo exclusive releases back then, having grown up with NES and SNES games. I've been playing Ocarina of Time (my first 3D Zelda, after a lifetime of playing 2D) for the first time this past year (I'm slow and I fucking hate the water temple) and I just absolutely love it. Can't wait to get into Majora's Mask, Banjo Kazooie and others I missed out on as a kid. Super Mario 64 didn't entirely convince me some years ago, but after I'm done with Zelda I might give it a try.

Edit: to say I'm surprised how well Ocarina of Time has aged despite the blocky polygon graphics. Once you get immersed in it, it actually plays very well in my opinion, but then again I'm honestly more used to older games than new and I still constantly play OG Silent Hill and games from that era.

The Holy Grail is so full of recognizable quotes that you can quote several lines from pretty much any scene and it'd be recognizable.

Not giving someone a platform on a stage is hardly using force to suppress people's opinions. Go parade nazism elsewhere, you have your platforms. I promise, when there's something worthwhile to read and respond to, people will.

Yeah well dumb people will try dumb ways to magically make their dumb kids smart. Wicked smaht. We played them Mozart 24/7 so they'd be smaht and look at him. So smaht. And the kid grows up to be an insomniac serial killer who grew dissecting any animals they got their hands on.

Why give a nazi the stage? Why raise their opinions there? The points are and have been expressed in a civil manner for at least a century.

"If a holocaust denialist expresses their opinion in a civil manner why not give their point of view more attention"

"If a pedophile expresses their opinion in a civil manner why not give their point of view more attention"

"If a rapist expresses their opinion in a civil manner why not give their point of view more attention"

"If a misogynist/misandrist expresses their opinion in a civil manner why not give their point of view attention"

If this is seriously an issue you have a dilemma with I have nothing further to say to you.

These kinds of points of view get enough attention as it is. No one needs to give them any more.

Have a snickers, buddy.

True, but some genres just kinda are like that with a lot of bands. Metal and punk especially. I don't a 100% agree that it's always being scared of experimenting/veering off, but just kind of the nature of the genre for a lot of bands. And even then you have examples of bands still retaining "their sound". Sure it's not metal, but punk, but I think Fugazi have quite a certain sound even though they evolved a lot.

From that another great example and one of my favorites: Bad Brains! Any of their songs could've been on any of their albums and it would not have been out of place.

Metal and punk are very similar in ways though so I excuse myself not thinking of metal examples.

Like I'd say Deathspell Omega sounds have retained their sound in many ways, but they've kind of evolved their thing so much you couldn't really say they have just that specific sound. Where as Deströyer 666 still have the same sound even though they've changed quite a bit, but you could go on forever about outliers. I don't remember what my point was.

Having said all that I wish more metal and punk bands tried something more different sometimes.

I listened to an album by Blood Incantation this year, great metal stuff and was ready to react, then I went and checked that out and Holy shit its straight up Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze type shit. Have to give this a listen

I was gonna comment about ZZ Top having a distinct early period, middle period and later, but I realized I think I've only hear like four albums by them.

Just needed to comment: there's a great band/cover band name for someone: ZZ Top Guns

It’s sad to see how AI advocates strive to replicate the work of artists all the while being incredibly dismissive of their value. No wonder so many artists are incensed to get rid of everything AI.

It's such a shame too. Like you can have a million sensible takes and opinions and views on the topic, pro-AI, but the discussion revolves around the same shit on both sides.

It is an amazing tool, and could be used (and is used, it's just obscured by the massive amount of shit and assholes trolling other people/artists) in so many creative ways. I'd been in a bit of a rut for quite a few years (partially because my brain no make happy chemicals or sleep), but I haven't been as excited about the possibilities and inspired maybe ever in my life (at least not for a decade or nearly two) with art and my own stuff. I'm finally drawing again after way too many years of letting my stuff gather dust.

Off the top of my head: Parliament Funkadelic - The Mothership Connection, Live In Houston 1976.

That's my go to. An amazing show and never fails to get me in a good mood or cheer me up. Parliament Funkadelic is magic.
