Even if there were a "biological advantage" the only reason people started to pretend to care about women's sports is because it's a way to alienate trans people. If there were a good faith discussion being had, it wouldnt be so infuriating.

I hope that something good comes from all this in the end.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the big risk with AI is its use as a disinfo tool. Skynet ain't no where near close, but a complete post truth world is possible. It's already bad now... Could you imagine AI generated recordings of crimes that are used as evidence against people? There are already scam callers that use recordings to make people think theyve kidnapped relatives.

I really feel like most people aren't afraid of the right things when it comes to AI.

I see a lot of people quick to hate on PHP while not really knowing anything about it's modern usage... but the thing I think of most is how people praise Lemmy for using Rust and diss Kbin for using PHP, but at the end of the day it's HOW those tools are used that determines the quality of something. Language changes, but fundamentals stay the same, and in the end all anyone should care about is whether or not something works.

Programming language wars have always seemed a tad shallow to me.

I don't care how many times people explain to me that "kill all men" doesn't actually mean kill all men. It still hurts. Ever since I transitioned, I've noticed the casual misandry thrown about everywhere like it's not a big deal, but it's a big deal to me. "All men are trash" includes me.

I've always had an issue with the idea that generalizations are okay. If "all men are trash" actually means "the patriarchy is trash", just say that. I understand a lot of it as simply venting, but it's almost never constructive or helpful, and it certainly isn't fun to hear as a trans dude. Hell, part of the reason it took so long for me to accept myself as a man is because of this kind of rhetoric.

I hope it gets better, because it does feel very alienating whenever I encounter it. I want to be a part of queer spaces, but it's hard when you feel hated.

I always really appreciate the effort y'all put into clarifying how you want this community to be run or actions y'all are taking. I wanna say that I really enjoy the feeling I get here: that people typically are good faith and see the human on the other side. Being a mod or admin and trying to exemplify the community you hope to foster has to be incredibly exhausting. That being said, the effort is noticeable, and I'm really thankful for y'all's passion for this project of beeing nice :)

This is incredible. I hope they get married.

If they're your best friend, they should be able to listen to you.

I used to have many shit opinions, and it took a lot of friends and a lot of conversations for me to change. It's hard. But it's thanks to them that I get to step into the best version of myself and be able to give back... Just know you are in a unique position to maybe get through to them, if they're willing to listen.

That being said... I'm so sorry. I've lost close family to bigotry and it sucks. It's the betrayal that's the worst part. It's like... I know you aren't like this, so how did you get this way? Just sucks

I watched it with my partner not long ago and I was ready for a good albeit dry movie. Nah, that movie kept me enraptured for every second. Probably one of my favorite movies now.

As a trans man, this is the guide I would have killed to have 10 years ago. I respectfully disagree with your take.

I just meant when I was younger I would have killed for it. I never came across it unfortunately.

Our fate is never sealed. Undirected anger is as useless as apathy. Have hope, and work towards that hope.

I mean, that's up to you. But I guarantee you will both feel better and maybe help save the world if you try doing something beyond getting angry and then disassociating.

Consider the fact that headlines that instill fear and doom work against us. What use is trying if it's all fucked anyway? The thing is it isn't over until it's over. I can't make you have hope, but hopefully you can come to realize that hope does a lot more for us than giving up. If you can envision a better future, you can work towards it! You can help advocate in your local Citizen's Climate Lobby chapter, develop a good garden for local wildlife and pollinators, or even just helping others be aware of the issue can help. There's no one coming to save us, so it's up to us to save ourselves.

Or you can just get angry and do nothing.

I understand the anxiety. I was frozen from it for a long time. But what helped more than anything else was simply going outside and tending a garden. Find a love for the life on this planet, and try to protect it. There's so much worth fighting for.

I'm glad you're doing something, despite the pain you're in. I simply want bring your attention to the fact that the doom and gloom attitude is harmful for the fight. In fact, many consider the onslaught of apocalyptic headlines and the new industry of climate fear to be a new tactic to get people to do nothing. Michael E. Mann, famous climatologist, has talked about this problem as well.

The icons are great! The honeycomb shape is really cool, I love it

That sounds awesome. I've never used CAD software but I might as well start, and also I have access to a 3d printer, so I might as well learn something for that as well. I'll give it a try!

Depression is a bitch. Most important thing is to try to stay ahead and keep ahead of it. Pick yourself back up every time, and it starts getting easier.

For me, I almost get an immediate sense that it's starting to creep in, kind of like getting flashes before a migraine. I get to brace for impact. I think if it sneaks up on you like that, it may be a good idea to try to journal, just so you can maybe get a better sense of your daily moods and perhaps notice if there are any triggers that cause depressive episodes.

I just scrolled through to see if anyone shouted out Mark of the Ninja. I hate stealth games, but absolutely loved that one.

Yeah, my experience was essentially the same: self loathing turned outwards. I wonder just how many trans folk are former transphobes...

From left to right, top to bottom: lesbian, nonbinary, trans, lgbt, pansexual, bisexual, and asexual pride flags.

I had to look up a couple myself actually haha

I'm also in east Tennessee and have been brainstorming an exit plan in a worst case scenario. It sucks because I really do love it here.

As far as trans rights go, the US is a lot better than a lot of countries just because we have informed consent. I was actually looking into what countries are good for trans folks and the list is shorter than you'd think. Honestly, if we fight it out here, I think the US could become one of the best places to be trans in.

But yeah... With what's happening with Vanderbilt, it's probably a good idea get an exit plan at the very least

Yeah, it's way more a problem with urban design in my opinion. In a lot of parts of the US, including where I'm at, a lot of cities are just... One road. Maybe two. You just continue to add stuff to the road and then become surprised when traffic happens and then it's time to try (and fail) making more roads. It's a city on a stick. Being a cyclist means risking your life to ride near the side of a street where there is no sidewalk and praying to God people can see you. And then every single commute is much longer than it needs to be.

I do not like it... but a car is the only reasonable option for cities designed so poorly.

A WGU computer science degree costs about 3800 per six month period, btw, which is a decent option. I'm with you on avoiding a typical expensive college degree, though. I would personally recommend considering WGU after getting some experience so you can get through it faster (since it's self paced).

I agree. But, for the sake of just exploring the thought process... IF the idea of trans women absolutely dominating cis women in sports were accurate (which does not seem to be the case), it would be something to discuss from a good faith perspective. Should we pivot to weight classes? Should there be a trans lady league? How do nonbinary folks fit in to this whole thing? Sports are inherently unfair, but that doesn't mean there's no room to talk about how we want sports to be.

It's really exhausting when every aspect of your life as a trans person has become politicized, because there are differences between cis and trans people generally, and they are worth talking about. Maybe one day discussions can be had that aren't simply thinly veiled transphobic talking points.

UN peacekeepers famously did not get involved when the Serbs massacred Bosnian Muslims in Srebrenica in their own "safe zones". I don't know if there are counter examples since then that demonstrate peacekeepers actually keeping peace, but that was the worst situation imaginable, and they still didn't get involved and just let it happen.

Huh. It actually runs fine for me on android and firefox. I did the thing though where you can download a website as an app:

In defense of the tumblr gender... everything. I didn't really know that trans people existed until the "discourse". To be fair, I was a pretty sheltered kid, but like... I had no idea it was even an option. At the time I did think it was "stupid" and had a short anti-sjw phase spurred on by r/TumblrInAction, but at the end of the day I became aware that trans people existed mostly because of kids on the internet and their genders. So thanks tumblr.

The problem from my point of view is people not spaying/neutering cats, and then inevitably a feral population will show up. Many cats can have a litter at 6 months old. I've personally watched generations of cats grow outside my workplace.

It's a huge problem. All the local shelters are beyond max capacity JUST FROM CATS. Feral cats explode in population, and the only real way to get populations under control is more Trap-Neuter-Return programs along with educating cat owners on why they absolutely must spay/neuter. There is no excuse not to.

All the David Cage sbfp let's plays are fuckin gold. I don't watch playthroughs anymore but I will go back and watch those every now and then

I did not consider Facebook marketplace for some reason but that'll be a good place to start. I love to learn how to do things and collect skills like pokemon so maybe I could learn how to process and spin fleece while I'm at it.

I will absolutely bookmark world of wool. Thanks!

How do you typically source your wool? I looked locally and there doesn't seem to be much around here at first glance.

That sounds so cool! I just started getting into gardening but did not consider you could grow dyes. You better post pics whenever it happens
