Happy to see lemmy linux community not blindly hating windows and providing facts. Also you can use a package manager like choco to install apps from terminal so you dont have deal with clicking next.

It contributes to the 4% worldwide linux market share. So think twice when you hear year of the linux desktop.

I have clean installed windows on a lot of gaming laptops. Most of the time windows updates pulls in every driver for you if windows have the correct wifi driver to begin with. If it doesn't i just download wifi driver on my phone and transfer it.

How will they run adobe apps and play popular multiplayer games like cod, valorant, siege, finals, league of legends, EFT? How will they subscribe to game pass? How can they watch netflix 4k?

The workflow actually works on any browser. Chrome is used because that icon is recognisable and IT guy can just say click on the chrome icon and people understand that.

Yes you are right. It will increase marketshare giving it more support.

I exactly do this. It switches every services to manual and turn off so many notification bloat. After doing this windows never bothers me. Every app , games, hardware like capture card just works on windows.

But i use linux on my laptop because linux is good for browsing and wordprocessing.

I actually want a steam deck, just to show my friends linux can do most gaming. But it is so expensive here in india.

I run arr stack and jellyfin server on windows 11. Also use tailscale for remote access

Whats wrong with windows? Everything just works.

Most of the people don't think about capitalism when they turn on their pc and start a game. They just play their favourite games like cod and have fun. And windows just works. I use windows 11 and I don't see ads on my pc.

Yes that is true. But all i did was uninstall one drive and other microsoft apps i dont use from my pc, i didn't do any reg edits or terminal commands.

I am from india. Our film industry is huge, the amount of local movies and tv shows is very hard to manage and watch through multiple streaming services (and this is not including the already popular netflix, prime, disney). I also watch foreign movies and tv shows. It is not that i can't afford, it is the ease of use. I use gamepass and steam and those are all part of capitalism.

Linux and jellyfin community is very active in lemmy. Not everyone use lemmy as a reddit alternative. I continue to use reddit.

Apps that will break doesn't provide a uninstall option to begin with. For example edge.

No.

I value making money and having fun with my pc more than microsoft spying on me. Ads? I dont see any ads on windows, maybe because i uninstalled things i dont want like onedrive and other apps.

Open source software also works on windows. I use package managers on windows with terminal. I uninstall all the bloat with terminal on windows. Everything just works and is supported better on windows.

No wonder the lack of software support.

They don't interact with the file system or ui. They call the IT guy if they cant login or connect to the network.

So basically linix is a fragmented mess. I will just stick to windows all my games , apps work and i can also uninstall all the microsoft bloat with a single click.

I was specifically taking about office pcs. People sitting in front of those office pcs have better things to worry about. Their interaction with the linux os is clicking that giant chrome icon and they do whatever the IT guy taught them.

In india due to low cellular data prices and android phone prices (chinese brands are huge in india) situation is very different. Consoles and pc hardware are priced differently compared to other electronics.

Wow why linux is so broken with multiple package mangers. Is it supposed to be easier than windows? On windows i just type "choco install blender" on terminal and everything just works.

Considering the health sector is very huge in india because of the population. These health sector pcs contribute a lot to the overall market share in india.

Linux lacking support for popular multiplayer games here and creator apps is not helping either.

So anyone who wants to do something serious on their pc still use windows and mac.

Default here is chrome not linux. These people aren't exposed to linux file system or the linux way of doing things. They just click on the chrome icon. They all still use windows om their personal laptop and desktops. They dont switch just because their office runs chrome.

My point being web browsing and word processing was never a problem on linux or any other os. It is being used just because it is cheaper and people who buy personal pcs are still on windows or mac and they dont switch

So most of the entire world is using windows/mac if they want to do something serious other than web browsing. And most of the linux desktop usage is contributed by enterprise and office pcs using linux. People still use windows and mac on their personal pc. So it is not a huge win if you want developer support for games and apps. Even if developers follow these numbers and start supporting linux, they will soon realise it is not worth their time because linux usage is mostly due to enterprise running chrome.

The point being game/app support matter a lot and you don't get them because office pc uses linux for web browsing. If these developers follow the 4% market share they will disappointed by the actual usage. Windows doesnt have this problem eventhough it is fading away from enterprise.

People who switch to linux on their personal pc know what linux is and why it is better. But people who use office pc dont know what os they are using and they still use windows on their personal laptops and desktops.

All they need is a chrome browser, so why would the government waste money on windows licences? A huge win is when personal pcs switch to linux. Linux doing basic web browsing and word processing is not a huge win.
