Peertube, Nebula, Patreon, etc. You don’t have to use YouTube.

10 years ago I was visiting friends in Melbourne. They casually proposed going out and hanging out like you would at around 11am on a Saturday. It was 9pm on a Tuesday. Blew my mind that most things were open and operating.

Where I live if you haven’t eaten by 8pm, you better enjoy McDonald’s because it’s the only thing open.

Being able to jump back a page without snapping to the top is the only issue I have with the PWA set up I’ve got. Otherwise it’s great as is.

I don’t use it but Matrix/XMPP is what you’re looking for.

If there are people you enjoy on YouTube or other forms of social media, check their profiles or about me and see if they have mastodon links.

Just on your niche stuff like 1930s movies, have you checked Internet Archive? I’ve been surprised at some of the stuff I’ve found.

I love it. It’s missing a lot of the things I disliked about the other place which is fantastic. It’s reasonably barebones by comparison and I am totally fine with it.

The only issue I have is some of my interests aren’t represented here (or I haven’t found them yet) and that’s something that will come with time or me actually putting in a bit of effort to create. Not the platform’s fault.

If you’re using a 3b just be aware that hevc and x265 files won’t play properly.

iPhone 8. I’ve had it for 5 years and haven’t had a reason to upgrade. Battery is starting to lose a bit of life so I’m thinking about a new battery rather than a new phone.

TIL. Thank you.

EZTV and EXT Torrents cover me alright. Nyaa.si for the anime side.

It could still be worthwhile, just not as your only option. Do your local archiving as well but having it uploaded elsewhere could come in handy if the shit hits the fan.

I’m thinking about it. Do you need a domain name as well?

Show a picture, video, audio clip or text designed to elicit an emotion. Ask how the user feels.

I hate how phones got big again. I think the SE is still normal sized.

An Evangelion AMV to I’m Not Okay by My Chemical Romance. I even remember the user but I haven’t been able to find since it got wiped off YouTube over 10 years ago.

Jackett or prowlarr. I’ve used both and prowlarr has been easier and more reliable for me.

You can also use qbittorrent’s in-build search.

Sega Lord X is the first one that springs to mind. I tend to prefer hardware and history over too much detail on the games themselves for other channels.

Personally I’m only paying for Spotify (while working away in the background to build my own collection) and Kayo, which is an Australian sports service. There is a little bit of fragmentation for sport in Australia but I’ve been lucky with Kayo as they’ve picked up stuff I was paying for elsewhere and it’s become better value over the time I’ve been subscribed.

Netflix is the only major one I’ve ever really paid for and their password gimmick was the straw that broke that for me.

They’ve got GUI, it’s just very basic and lacks a lot of the features you would choose them for.

Some modern Australian music has made it to the world like Tame Impala and King Gizzard but there’s a whole heap that hasn’t really. I’d recommend Boo Seeka and Safia.

What are your favourites?

Just need to hold about 4TB for a few months until I buy more hard drives. I didn’t think of a seed box though which could be an option.

Can you get Mastodon and Lemmy working together? Like is there a way to see them in the same feed?

How was Curiosity Stream?

Theme Hospital I still go back to on occasion. I’ve seen Two Point but it’s not the same.

I’ve been on the torrents for ages but just started with Usenet this weekend. So I’m dual wielding with Usenet as first priority.

Proton’s good but they seem to neglect Linux a lot. Command line version is okay but missing split tunneling so I’m seriously thinking about flicking it for something else.

Radarr/Sonarr to acquire most things. Still go around them where needed.

Then I use Kodi for all video. I don’t go off the main device enough to worry about a full server setup for it so I’ll just network share if I need to use another device.

Navidrome and substreamer for music in a proper server config with Tailscale tying it together.

YouTube will be your friend for the how to cook. Though myself I learnt heaps from a book called The 4 Hour Chef by Tim Ferriss. There’s also How to Cook Everything by Mark Bittman that covers a lot.

As for what to cook? I’ve found the easiest way for me has been to batch cook (or meal prep). You cook up many servings of something and then eat it over the course of a week. I find it easier to stick to because it’s less work to just heat something up, rather than cook every night.

A good framework on what to cook is using a basis of meat + veggies + starch (noodles/rice/bread/etc) + flavour. Think of what you like and you can break it down into these categories. Then experiment within this. It’s not comprehensive but it’s a handy tool.

You got a hose?

Mint on my media box. Still Windows on my daily driver, mainly for gaming. I did try Mint for it and while I did like it, I couldn’t make the full switch.

I love a double quarter pounder but I’ve boycott Maccas*. Double cheeseburger from Hungry Jacks^ does the job though.

  • McDonald’s ^ Burger King for Australians

Windows 10 on my main computer, Mint on my HTPC which is getting a lot more use.

Most fruit that’s in season would cover all three.

If you set up Radarr/Sonarr (which is something we should have a guide on here at some point) then you can set it to prefer things in Spanish.

You could use the web interface and a dark mode extension for your browser.

I just use the standard browser version as a PWA. It works pretty well. Hanging out for Slide as that’s what I used for the other place.

Another Australian here who drinks water on tap. Some places have bad tasting water but it’s still drinkable. It’s probably only bad because it’s different.

I really enjoyed this one!
