Yeah, someone else the other day also said that the mastodon founder out of all people, was bribed by meta, lmao. And he followed up by saying that because we can't prove it, it must be true. You could prove anything, even that lizard men exist, with that attitude. Just another day in any social media, i suppose.

this also works for other stuff using activitypub as well btw, not just lemmy but also platforms like mastodon, peertube etc

without attribution

no..? on every bit of info theres a source button next to it which links you to the original article, similar to what bing chat does.

Brave Software

brave search, not the browser.

it does depend on where you're getting the fruits from and whether you're in a first world country though

“let’s embrace all the users who are already there and try to convert them to our app/server”

i don't think the people who came here, hoping to avoid meta and other big corps, are the type of people who would switch to meta's instance. Rather only current meta users.

Besides de-federating from meta (server side) is not the way to go about this, as you'd be encouraging people to use meta's apps, since.. they would have no other choice. Everyone keeps bringing up EEE, well you'd be contributing a massive amount to it by doing that. Mastodon has client side defederation anyways, so the user has the ability to defederate for themselves.

If cannibalism is fine

??? wtf? sarcasm?

next thing you know theres gonna be a goddamn vote set for terrorism and he's going to allow that because the majority agreed to it. I find it mad how cannibalism is allowed here out of all things, some of the admins have their face as their pfp as well, really weird how they're openly pushing cannibalism like that

The problem is that if I want to communicate with Meta users, then my content gets copied onto Meta's servers

whats the issue with this

With great power comes great irresponsibility

Firefox translations (local-only website translation)

Firefox translations is good, but i'd recommend linguist instead, its still on-device (if you switch to the local engine in its settings), but is more feature rich, and i've found it to provide higher quality translations.

Buster Captcha Solver

Theres also privacy pass for cloudfare's captchas

Nitter Redirect

I'd use libredirect instead, achieves the same purpose but also works with a tonne of other services as well and not just twitter -> nitter redirects, but also reddit -> libreddit, youtube -> piped, etc.

Facebook Container & Multi-Account Container

The only usecase for containers are multiple accounts, not privacy/security, fission's sandboxing already takes care of that on firefox.

You have a huge number of addons though, i'd try to limit the number of installed addons unless it provides a purpose which is absolutely essential, can't most of these addons be replaced with userscripts in violentmonkey? At least that way it's more confined, in that it has privileges over a specific website rather than the entire browser. Know that every addon is a risk, even if the addon itself isn't malicious, it could have a security vulnerability to be exploited.

tampermunkey

use violentmonkey

Is there an alternative that I don't know about?

Violentmonkey

its referring to their search engine's ai summarizer feature, i found an article when searching op's title, quite a low effort post really since only an image was shared and no link to any article.. or any description whatsoever.

I mean.. I managed to do it it minutes. What step are you stuck on?

The admins were probably paid off

Quite the opposite, brave's defaults are very good. An alternative to brave on the firefox side would be librewolf, which gives firefox great defaults, but the issue with that is that they disabled auto updates, and there's still a lot of people on the windows side not using a package manager (even though many exist).

bullshit integrated into it.

And again, there's no "bullshit" if you don't explicitly opt into the crypto.

Right, so because you personally don't want to communicate with their users, means everyone has to abide by your opinion, because you don't want to spend the 3 seconds to de-federate for yourself only. In order to not inconvenience you, everyone must be de-federated from meta, to save you those 3 seconds, even if some people wanted to communicate with meta, i suppose its too bad for them, they're not important enough, only you are my lord and saviour /u/Monkeyhog.

Seriously?!
