Last two skills I've successfully learned:

  1. Giving subcutaneous fluids to my cat. Followed vet instructions and watched several how-to videos online for different tempered cats.

  2. Making macarons. Followed online recipes, tried some different techniques and troubleshooting through trial and error.

More recently, I have been trying to teach myself HTML whenever I have pockets of free time during the work day. I'm following the mozilla.org Intro to HTML as a guide.

Since owning a house my partner and I have really embraced Fall/Thanksgiving/Halloween decor from mid-September until early November (we're in Canada where Thanksgiving is in October). I like fancy/pretty shit so we have a bunch of blown glass and porcelain stuff, candles, some skull/haunted-like figurines, wreaths and vases with faux flowers/black branches. The last two Thanksgivings my partner bought me a bouquet of orange/yellow flowers for the dining table too.

I bake at least once for Thanksgiving and once for Halloween. We also watch Halloween Baking Championship every year, and try to squeeze in some horror flicks too.

We also listen to a very wide variety of fall/Halloween music throughout the season. This year we particularly enjoyed the Nemos dreamscapes compilations (example).

Are you fully tightening one side before starting on the other side?

Nah let's just pump out more propaganda articles on why WFH is bad. /s

There's already a couple great suggestions offered here as alternatives to the harmful balloon idea. I just want to say thank you to OP for being thoughtful enough to ask the question in the first place. The world needs more people like you.

Not to mention having things done precisely the way I like. Reminds me of the black mirror "White Christmas" episode where they were creating digital clones to act as personal assistants.

Also how dare they need to take time off work to give birth and care for a newborn!

First 10 pages was probably the bulk of the story; the rest was just email replies.

I really enjoy the Bubly canned sparking water. Cheaper than Perrier, so many different flavours, and zero sugar or caffeine.

I work in HR too. My last company (startup) I was bascially the HR and IT department combined and it royally sucked. Also a rif refugee!

I'm glad I'm not the only one with this issue. Automatic hand dryers are even worse. Those Dyson V-shaped ones NEVER turn on for me no matter what kind of hand dance I try to perform for it.

Same here. I was surprised how sad/bittersweet it felt to stop using reddit. Like parting ways with an old friend. I check back occasionally, and it's been pretty reassuring to see how much lemmy's content quality and quantity has increased, just as much as reddit's has decreased, since July.

Nearly impossible to narrow down to one song. Basically a tie between these five:

  • Ten Years After - I'd Love to Change the World
  • Pink Floyd - Time
  • AFI - God Called in Sick Today
  • Avenged Sevenfold - Dear God
  • Brad Paisley - Water

I think OP is counting commenting as being a "participator". I pretty much followed the 90-9-1 rule with my 11 year reddit account (90% lurk, 9% comment, 1% post) and likely will do the same here. I was always very diligent up/downvoting things based on value and reporting violations at reddit though, which I think gets calculated into their engagement metrics, unlike at Lemmy if I am not mistaken.

So true. Sadly it's often those same types of people against vaccines who are against birth control as well.

All older games as I can't fit games into adult life:

  • Starcraft I and II
  • Max Payne
  • Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit
  • Thief I
  • Red Faction
  • The Sims I and III
  • Ski Free
  • Worms Armageddon
  • Chips Challenge
  • Doom original

And honourable mention of the only game I recently play, which is Cooking Fever.

Remote starter for me. Never have to sit in a freezing car for 5+ minutes waiting for it to warm up.

It's similar in Polish where you're welcome (proszÄ™ bardzo) literally translates to "please very much".

My first computer was in the mid-90s. It was a Commodore 64 and it was exclusively for playing Frogger on a floppy disk.

First phone was in 1999 or 2000, my older sister's hand-me-down, believe it was a Nokia 2110. It was a brick phone with stationary antenna.
