The irony of the magazine name and bricking the magazine. Glad you got it fixed!
Transferring domains on your own is a process…. Wonder how much harder it will be moving registration and user accounts, dns, Whois, name servers, etc. hopefully it’s easier for the users too and don’t get stuck in migration limbo.
On kbin there are options to upvote and downvote. The upvotes are related to favorites and boosts are like reblogs in the mastodon scheme. kbin has a unique way to blend the thread style of communication and content with the microblog that is better federated to other Activity Pub server instance types.
Also seems like Dansup is finding a lot of spam accounts on lemmy instances too. He manages the fedidb of all the fediverse software and platforms with various metrics
I’ve started/modding
I like that part too. Makes you engage in the conversation already going and add your own comments to that, rather than repeating the same answer over and over.
This is a good point too. I saw some many that I'd like to follow that didn't even have a Welcome thread so, to the idea that some are just name grabbing as well and hoping it'll be useful one day.
Part of the federation is multiple kbin or lemmy instances can all have /popularnamehere and than can federate to to the other. Plus /technology on kbin could be wildly popular while another may not be. Or both are going strong, but folks like more responsive in one instance than another.
I don’t think kbin offers this yet. On mastodon you can add .rss at the end of the username like
I agree with them all being federated and being able to use them all. Since I started on kbin, I've been wanting to find groups on kbin and do follow and interact with other federated groups as well. Some of the Lemmy instances and communities seem to have taken off more. Most of what I see on kbin is Lemmy which is a little sad, but glad we can all "talk" together too.
I think the trick now is to help provide the Lemmy and kbin follow links.
for kbinMeta on kbin: https://kbin.social/m/kbinMeta
for kbinMeta on Lemmy: https://geddit.social/c/kbinMeta@kbin.social or https://{lemmyinstance}/c/magazinename@kbininstancename
Tags are a way to help spread the microblog or thread type into the fediverse and searchable as well. While on mastodon, I can see a microblog or thread post type of article, link, etc, it'll show the tags, but the posts do not appear in the same tagged way a post from mastodon with a tag does. I think this is a bug for now.
If you are on a Mastodon instance and follow a kbin.social user for example, you will see their posts and comments to on kbin and can interact still on the same thread in kbin for example.
I know some folks have used RSS for many things on user accounts as well. Sometimes there could be a reason you cant subscribe to a user or magazine and RSS is a way around that. I subscribe to my mastodon rss feed just for fun too.
using the RSS feed you could link it to a blog or personal website as well and share your posts in a way to others who may not be on the same site as you. Like sharing your posts on your websites so others can see on your site what it is you post so they dont have to have an account as well on kbin for example.
Or you can get a RSS firehose of accounts together to keep up on things outside of the community to ensure you dont miss something in your /m/sub feed.
On lemmy searching for kbin magazines would probably be just like lemmy, but specifying the instance name.
On kbin if I’m looking for this community I’d search for @nostupidquestions and subscribe
@ernest Doesnt look like this is valid RSS though. https://validator.w3.org/feed/check.cgi?url=https%3A%2F%2Fkbin.social%2Frss%3Fmagazine%3DkbinMeta
Not sure if that will cause any issues. Didn't know this existed yet! Thanks!
Ubuntu is already looking to All-Snap Ubuntu Desktop Will Be Available Next Year
Cloudflare DNS proxied dns to be exact too. They also allow DNS only which is not routed through Cloudflare and the services.
kbin uses the @username style. So replace the ! with @ and search again. Same for usernames and communities/magazines
Saw on on mastodon you have the vote options and it was shared on kbin. Wonder how all the votes will get tallied…?
I think this would be the best too. Just like when you see a post thread and it says "This is federated, click the instance to see more", change the Owner
to the root instance level or link to the community/magazine of the federated content.
You posted this on the /m/kbinMeta on kbin.social from your instance. So you're right in the fact that when you search it does only show the local ones. As your instance starts federation by users and interactions, things should pick up a little. Then users on your instance will soon start to see content and make magazines and groups there too.
What is hard too, is if all the posts to get things started are the mods or creator, the same ghost town might occur. It’s hard to tell or know what will be interesting to get people talking so to speak. Some should also be put on the subscribers as well who also have an interest. It’s a double edge sword sometimes.
I've been able to see that you can block individual communities on lemmy, but not domains yet.
Currently browser extension scripts. There’s also a few feature requests
Source is on codebergand issues have been submitted with ideas, to questions. Might be a little slow now since there’s a flood of people, but you could search for an open ticket or help with something too.
You pay for the transfer basically and keep the current registration time + 1 year. But ICANN only allows transfers within certain time windows of age of the domain, before/after registration, and such as well... but could be easier now to get out of Google and locked into a mess later.
I saw that one too. I was looking to see how we could add the "related" magazines and federated sites together as well.
I wonder if some of it also has to do with how federation works. Once a user visits and follows another instance the two instances start to federate. The more instances and sites of lemmy/kbin and the more users the harder it might get.
Are the communities on lemmy or kbin you are looking for?
On Kbin looking for lemmy or other federations: /m/community@lemmyinstance.tld
On kbin looking for the geddit info
community on geddit.social: https://kbin.social/m/geddit@geddit.social
On lemmy looking for /m/KbinMeta: /c/magazine@kbininstance.tld
https://geddit.social/c/kbinMeta@kbin.social
I can find the mod's profile on kbin: https://kbin.social/u/@donmildreone@lemmy.ml
and I know other communities on lemmy.ml work as I subscribe to the /m/linux@lemmy.ml from kbin. Might need time or more posts to start the federation.
I use namecheap for the registration and Cloudflare for the DNS. Pretty easy setup and support as well. The SSL is great as I get a free SSL wildcard and can use that for other origin and edge certificates as well.

Still love the GameCube and games. This is what we introduced the kids too and it’s been fun watching them play the games that brought me a lot of fun too.
Mario Kart
Super smash brothers
Crazy Taxi
Could find the RCA connections on tvs now, but the Wii was great in the backward compatibility! Dolphin worked great for some games too, and a controller USB adapter and we’re in business!
How do we add the "related magazines" as well on the sidebar panel? How does that portion work?
@ernest I guess the other question, what determines an abandoned magazine? Will there be contact to the current owner to make a final decision?
I use these settings, but the bottom two will show you the new posts/treads in the subscribed magazine. I too, was getting a lot of notifications for every new item in kbin I subscribed to. I changed it to just what I posts and comments. I don't mind setting my "home" screen to my subscribed content and then going back to all the federated content as well. I do want to know when someone replies to my content so I can continue the conversation better.
you could for sure. If you're not using a git service for other projects I can see the hesitation of creating an account just for a single issue. But then again, Codeberg is a great alternative to GitHub. Either way I do think some minor improvements could be made.
I recently switched to Fedora to help get into the Arch based Linux realm. Historically been on Debian based distros. You can’t go wrong with many of the “mainstream” distributions as your first intro to Linux. If you come across any issues ask away and that it a how you’ll learn more about how Linux works, Arch, etc with your hardware too.
Could you see anything…? All kbin.social items being blocked, not just the content?
That does present a poor user experience, but also seems like a quick decision too.
Might register before they get taken just in case!
I read this as gedit like the text editor on gnome!
That is how the federation works! Also can see posts on other platforms like Mastodon, calckey, plerma. Enjoy!
