Biometrics plus a password is even more secure.

They are most likely stolen or imported through a third party.

The Starlink probably only works once the drone enters Ukraine. Disabling Starlink in that area would cut off the Ukrainian military too. The internet traffic could easily be routed through a VPN in another country, so blocking Russian IP addresses on Starlink wouldn't work either.

This is why you never reuse passwords. Usually there's no way to tell if a site is storing them in plain text until there's a data breach.

Helium doesn't just kill apple devices, It kills anything with a MEMS oscillator. Helium atoms are so small that it's impossible to make a seal that completely blocks them.

When I print something, I certainly don't want AI messing with it. I often use a printed copy to make sure something will fit before I 3D print it or have a PCB made. I need it to print exactly at 100% scale.

I would love to have the page cleanup feature built into my web browser though. Hardly any sites include a print layout anymore.

That would likely get the user and the torrent client banned from the private tracker.

Any password length (within reason) and any character should be allowed. It's going to be hashed and only the hash will be stored right? Length and character limits make me suspect it's being stored in plain text.

There are some large computer monitors, depending on how big of a screen you want. There's no smart crap in those, just DisplayPort and HDMI inputs.

I'm surprised more people aren't using uBlock Origin. It's an absolute necessity for browsing the web anymore.

Inkscape is good for making icons, assuming you want vector icons.

By any length I meant no maximum length. Obviously you don't want to use a super short password.

Discord keeps getting used for things it shouldn't be used for like tech support. I will be glad when it dies. Don't hide your support behind a platform that can't be searched from the web. It's not a replacement for forums and issue trackers.

Touch screens should not be used for any controls needed to operate a car. You can't use them without taking your eyes off the road.

Why the hell does a vending machine need a facial recognition camera to "activate the purchasing interface"?

There should just be a set of buttons to select what you want and a window so you can see what items are available.

If the content is not stored locally and DRM free, then you don't own it. Don't pay for content that you can't own. 🏴‍☠️

This is why you don't buy any hardware that requires "the cloud" to function with no option to self host. At least they are giving refunds this time, but that's usually not the case.

It would have been nice if they came up with something shorter like .lan.

That will just allow google to track every website you visit.

Considering that RAM is shared with the GPU, it's still not enough.

They look like crap, I won't watch them.

A lot of people use Github because it's easy to use and popular. Not everyone wants to self host, although it would be nice if the larger projects did. What I really hate is when open source projects use something like disord for support.

I don't need or want any of that AI crap in my browser. Hopefully there will be a compiler flag to disable it.

The Ampex 1" type C video tape recorder needed is rare, but it's not impossible to find one. The NSA could certainly watch the video if they wanted to. The just don't want to go through the effort for a FOIA request.

A lot of TV shows are direct rips from streaming services and they don't use H.265 because of the ridiculous licensing it comes with.

I suspect AV1 will become much more popular for streaming in a few years when the hardware support becomes more common. It's an open source codec, so licensing shouldn't be an issue. Then we will see a lot more AV1 releases.

There has always been the option of installing software from source. The package manager won't update anything installed from source.

You don't have to use Flatpak, Snap or AppImage if you don't want to. If you use the package manager to install everything, it will update everything.

$1400 for a non upgradable SSD and RAM, not to mention there are no USB, HDMI or audio jacks. What a ripoff.

Smart devices are only useful if they are open source and everything can be self hosted. Everything else becomes a brick when the manufacturer drops support for it.

Piracy is a service issue. If the streaming providers are going to punish me for using my preferred browser and operating system by limiting the quality, I will keep my money and get the video elsewhere.

There is also the issue of never knowing when the show will just disappear from the streaming service while you are in the middle of watching it because the licensing changed.

I haven't seen an anti adblocker popup on youtube for a couple months now, I though they gave up. It looks like the uBlock developers and block list maintainers are just doing an excellent job staying ahead of whatever youtube is doing.

I haven't used Opera since they switched from their own engine to chrome. They are now owned by a Chinese company, so it probably has at least as much tracking built into it as Google Chrome now.

I'm surprised they didn't put a time limit on the storage since they are not a file hosting platform.

What, you expect the flash drives they hand out for free at trade shows to be decent quality?

They are intended to be used to distribute advertising materials, not be rewritten multiple times.

OK, now give them a fine that will actually hurt.

OK, now ban bootloader locking next.

12 more...

Why? Phones have been thin enough for a long time that you have to put them in a case just to get a good grip.

We just need round monitors so the dimensions don't change when rotating the display.

Newer codecs are more efficient. H.265 and AV1 are often 2/3 to 1/2 the size of an H.264 file for the same quality.
Of course there are also people uploading lower quality files as well.

There was probably a large number of bots using the same method that nitter uses to scrape data.

I always use yt-dlp do download youtube videos. It doesn't require installation, you just download and run it.
