I feel like we’re at the age of the internet where a strong minority (see: Lemmy users) care deeply about all the ugly exploitative and anti-consumer nature of big tech, but the vast majority of the population just… doesn’t care… and shrugs off (and enables) the continual downward spiral.

You can livestream there?

Those things have been kicking my ass whenever I have a VPN on lately.

I’m out here clicking stairs, motorbikes, crosswalks, traffic lights, and it just keeps giving me “Try Again” …I’m starting to doubt I’m actually human.

It’s insane how many people already take AI as more capable/accurate than other medium. I’m not against AI, but I’m definitely against how much of a bubble of being worshipped that some people have it in.

The thing that makes me most sad is that the old Twitter is genuinely why I have the career and connections I do today. Now I can’t even stand opening the site.

Clicking an image on Twitter and it actually being an external link was the last thing I ever did on that platform.

I thought this meant on top of Premium and I was about to be pissed.

But honestly, Spotify is one of the only companies where I don’t feel like my experience has gotten noticeably worse over my time using it.

The majority of the ads I get on Twitter now are deepfaked Elon shilling coins — I don’t know how any advertiser (or user) could have any faith in that platform anymore.

This is probably a stupid question, but for those of you that use Mastodon — how did you find people to follow?

I tried it out a few months ago but I didn’t like the few accounts they recommended, and searching for users or keywords didn’t get me too far either…

That’s the hilarious(ly depressing) thing about buying a digital movie, for example, to me.

If you rent it, you get it for a certain amount of time.

If you ‘buy’ it, you also rent it, just for an undisclosed amount of time that they may or may not retroactively take away from you at any point with no warning or compensation.

Currently chomping on my emergency pizza… almost lasted a week in the freezer.

I just read the best book, you should check it out. Credit to the author of it.

Google’s relevance of search has gone extremely downhill in the last few years even before the surge of AI articles, so it’s no surprise the keyword-injected articles are all that’s winning now.

But holy shit does it piss me off how many of these first page results have literally incorrect information now too. Want to learn how to do something in software? See a release date? Find accurate information? Good fucking luck.

I love how the words they chose to bold were VOTING and BIDEN for their message.

The only videos that show up on my Twitter are literal war crimes, gore, NFSW, NFSL… I’m sure being LiveLeak Jr is doing great things for bringing advertisers back.

Please do. Keep making headlines for self-destruction.

And yet this is 2 posts down from an article about their price hikes and increase in ads coming up.

I’ve found Google alternatives great for things that are… filtered (copyright etc), but honestly no matter what search engine I use, I swear none just give you the results for your query anymore. I’ve still been finding the Bing-based ones horrible quality for relevancy and defaulting to Google.

They really said “because we can’t get crime under control, you can’t have health measures”

Oh you thought that was for damage prevention? No it’s actually to make sure it gets wet. I heard the Cybertruck’s trunk department QC’d it.

The only absolute with these devices is that you don’t get what you pay for. Inevitably it will completely change without your consent, and generally it will deliberately be for a worse experience since you’re captive.

Had just under 10 years on my current account and I used the official Reddit app the whole time...

But I just don’t support/respect/enjoy it over there anymore.

Got sick of Reddit, looked for alternatives, found sub.rehab, found Lemmy was common… here I am.

Hah, just joined that yesterday.

Guess I should get the blood flowing on my accounts on some other instances.

My car battery went dead the day before the time change. I was so close.

My usage dropped for a while, but it’s the only ‘social media’ that doesn’t actively leave me feeling worse about the platform and the world after using it.

The account I share with family still works, but the second it doesn’t… it’s the pirate life for me

It feels like these social media platforms are having a competition to drive the most users away lately…

I will say, I don’t know what they’ve done but it’s been fucking up my casual circumvention nicely. Now I just get forced into almost 10 minutes of ads every time, and the ad bars shows up underneath videos, the end cards at the wrong time…

If this is anything like the flag to bring back the old Chrome downloads bar (I miss you), then enjoy it while you can.

This post just made me not take out the trash. I’m not risking it. Maybe I’ll be stronger tomorrow.

Next thing you know

I for one am quite confident it’s not me.

I didn’t read a single thing beyond the title but… yeah that checks out

Thank you, that looks like a great place to start!

Anyone have recommendations for an app (iOS) that doesn’t have slide interactions with comments? I keep upvoting like 4 comments every time I try to swipe out of a post with wefwef/Memmy/Thunder…

I feel like Apple is much less threatening as a monopoly than a loooot of other companies..?

I want no part to do with them after they got all the Google domains—they’re not a company I would have willingly supported before, so I’m not about to now that I’ve been forced into it.

I still think it’s absolutely insane that Google just willingly runs ads to so many illegitimate and deliberately harmful sites too.

If you search for any software and click one of the first few links (the ads), you’ll almost always end up on a scam site. What a useful search engine…
