I believe this is because sponsor segments are like traditional TV ads. They don't use trackers, they are not targeted and they respect your privacy.

It's so encouraging to hear so many pro Firefox opinions lately. Then I remember I'm logged into the pirate instance of a federated platform and anti-corporate sentiment is probably as high as it gets.

Sadly most younger people haven't even heard of Firefox.

Do we really need excuses for pirating media?

I pirate movies because I think digital access to them is overpriced, goes to the copyright holder instead of the creators, it's convenient and most importantly because I can.

I can't pirate going to the cinema, nor can I afford to build my own, therefore I gladly pay to have a seat and enjoy a movie there.

As I've mentioned in another thread, I believe YouTube provides analytics on this (hence the "most replayed" parts for some videos), and I'm certain I've seen some creators mention sposors requiring that information before a deal is made. So it may really hurt some small youtubers that can't rely on merchandise sales.

That said, I personally use sponsorblock as I don't feel like wasting my life on nordvpn ads, but I have to admit sponsor segments are a whole lot better than regular YouTube ads.

Edit: And as I far as I know they pay much better than regular ads.

While Mozilla is far from perfect, I think they've managed to avoid getting shitty for almost 20 years.

I'm not sure if streaming 1080p video over Tor would be very appreciated by the rest of the network. Or that it would be a very pleasant experience.

Do you know if there is a EU-wide place to report such behavior?

The biggest privately owned TV channel in my country not only does that, but actually just redirects you to a pdf file if you want to "manage cookies". And it's not like I can submit a complaint on a national level, as the ruling party's website uses google analytics without a cookie notice at all.

I would love to have an open, hackable, linux-based eBook reader.

I don't seem to find it mentioned: LEDs at night are terrible for your sleep, especially the blue ones. Among other things they suppress the melatonin release.

An article that goes into more detail and provides a citations for further research.

Well, imho, at least half of r/antiwork posts were escapist fiction of how one should have replied to their manager.

The riches of dbzer0 shall remain hidden for now.

That being said, does anyone know where can said torrents be found, and how big are they?

It was definitely much better than Facebook at the time. Especially the concept of circles that they implemented.

Not only that it's basically everywhere, but even if it's not, you can compile it using something like nuitka and still use it.

Why not name them? Personally, I'm most disappointed in r/cyberpunk. They kind of proved they are all about neon lights.

I believe YouTube provides analytics on this to the creator which may be shared with a potential sponsor before a deal is made.

Yes, and they've made some profit-driven decisions, such as pocket integration, but never on the level of what google does.

That's why I've said they are far from perfect (but the best we have).

Pretty fly for a white guy. It's not really a bad song, but it was really overused in the late 90s and early 2000s.

Americana is a great album, but every time Pretty fly starts playing it ruins it for me.

When the reddit went bad I started looking for anti-corporate communities that would migrate.

r/cyberpunk was the first place I checked, but there was no discussion about migrating at all there. r/selfhosted was another obvious idea but people there seemed very reluctant as well.

The only sub that pointed to some clear migration path was r/piracy. I really appreciate the integrity of dbzer0 in this situation.

That's a pity. I never quite understood why these privacy-focused browsers always reskin chromium, instead of firefox.

Well, we have hashing algorithms that do exactly that, like phash for example.

Yep. I was very young at the time but what I remember is firefox being spoken of as kind of a "hack" to make everything web-based faster compared to IE.

Then chrome came out and firefox was completely replaced. It felt like an instant change. Anyone that knew anything about computers was using chrome.

I think that chrome is still living off its glorious past.

Then beauty standards would be based on AI generated images. Full circle of simulacra.

I completely agree with you, and that's the reason I block them as well. I was just trying to give an explaination for the app's behaviour.

Thank you, that's so kind! I'll probably try to tackle the comments first as they come quite messy from the api, then I'll probably give the images a go.

To be honest, I'm hoping this project doesn't get out of my league too quickly as a have almost no experience with working with apis.

The community has been very calm and respectful so I've never really had to think about the moderation. I can't remember the last time I've seen a deleted comment for example, and I've certainly never seen a hateful post or comment.

Other than that, the admin, db0 is quite left-leaning (or at least anti-capitalist), but so am I, so it never really bothered me.

To be completely honest, this is the only instance that I have an account in, so I can't really compare it to the others, but it just felt like home to me.

Even if they run only a window manager 2gb of RAM is just not enough for web nowadays.

Recently resurrected a 10-ish year old Lenovo Chromebook-like with an atom CPU and 4gb RAM, running nothing but qtile as a DE and it's struggling with more than 5 tabs open.

Upgrade the RAM to at least 4gb, preferably 8 and the HDD to SSD.

Also, don't bother with "lightweight" browsers, in my experience Firefox simply runs much faster.

For one, the LEDs mess with your sleep. Some wavelength of light make your body think it's day therefore inhibiting melatonin production (the hormone that makes you sleepy).

Furhermore, a general advice for better sleep is to keep electronics outside if the bedroom, as they are too psychologically engaging (e.g. "I'll just check one more post on Lemmy").

I guess I could just search for it, but is this chromium based?

Edit: The mac and ios versions are based on WebKit, the android one is based on chromium. I would guess the windows one is based on chromium as well, but cant find anything definitive.

You're absolutely right.

Yeah they are fantastic with new apps and phones.

I think that's mostly because most commercial apps have fantastic ui and ux.

I guess you can use wormhole to transport the data to your peer, and if you're extra paranoid encrypt it asymmetrically with something like age.

Then again you can just encrypt it with age and send it over Signal. There should be no risk involved in sharing public keys even if you don't trust their servers.

Does the resolution really matter? I may be wrong, but I think nobody runs a Tor node, giving away their bandwidth for free and risking jail time, just so that some random dude in Arkansas can watch some porn.

I missed Atom a lot when it was discontinued. Recently found Pulsar which is a community continuation of Atom, and it seems to be quite active.

What would you use this laptop for?

I've dealt with similar hardware, using Qtile over a Manjaro base, but had to mostly use CLI/TUI apps. Anything related to web browsing is a pain.

I went with chafa as it's terminal agnostic and supports various modes.

Then again, I'm not really sure a tui frontend needs high quality image rendering. Earlier I even considered going completely 1bit braille or just ASCII just so that the image doesn't take all of the focus at the expense of the post body.

As mentioned by another commenter, I believe opening the full image in an external viewer is a much better solution, not to mention easier to implement.

I would guess mostly because python interpretes are just about everywhere.

Also the binaries compiled with nuitka end up being much bigger in size. A simple script of a few kb can and up in the hundreds of mb when you start compiling the dependencies, so it's not a perfect solution.

I thought I shouldn't doxx myself so much, but whatever. Our native language is Bulgarian.

Isn't Hot supposed to work like that? When it's not broken, of course.

I feel like some simple algorithm like the ones used in dithering may be used to mix up the feed.

A reinstall fixed this for me, but broke my ability to subscribe to communities and post comments.

Edit: After a bit of browsing it broke again and now I can't subscribe and comment AND rearrange the feed.

Can't see anyone mentioning this, but have you tried the johncena releases on 1337x?

All of them are neatly compressed, don't need Steam and I haven't seen a single one that doesn't work out of the box on Manjaro.
