Activities are public and easily viewable on kbin. It's been interesting. Seems mostly positive other than people harassing those who down-vote them demanding explanations.

Once the new season drops I think things will pick up.

Yea, good call. I wonder if kbin makes them viewable because the activity pub protocol does not allow them to be easily hidden.

Linux is just a kernel in the same sense that a disto is just a package manager and an init system. Technically that's the case but colloquially a distro is any set of curated, pre-configured packages with an install script.

Hey, I'm a little nervous 'bout this guy!

You posted this comment in a community that didn't exist before the protests. On day-1 of the protest this place was a ghost town. Today I have an active feed with dozens of posts per hour and hundreds of comments. This was the best possible outcome. If the entirety of reddit migrated at once then the fediverse would still be crawling or stalled completely. Its alpha software with a a fraction of the capacity reddit has. The threadiverse seed has been successfully planted, it just needs some time to grow.

Yea.

Mali is reclaiming .ml domains. They will reopen on a .net site. More info here: https://very.bignutty.xyz/notes/9hf13it1ced3b2za

Piracy. I couldn't live with 25%+ of my TV watching time being advertisements. Manually downloading episodes became too much trouble so I setup a Plex/sab/sonars/radarr config on a pi connected to a 4-bay external drive enclosure featuring refurbished HGST 2tb HDDs in an lvm raid-5 config.

Eventually I also substituted my radio with paid Spotify so about the only ads im served are product placements and billboards. Its amazing how much less you'll spend without ads!

Consider that we're trending away from poop memes. It's not good but it's a step in the right direction.

AVB tastes awful to me so im not much for the gourmet experience.

Mix with everclear in a tuppaware container. Shake the container for a few minutes. Strain out the liquid and mix with OJ. Be careful, this shit knocks you out.

Yet so many Tesla owners still think its self-driving. Maybe because that's how its been marketed for years.

Do you get it, now?

My uber was a Tesla once. The guy was convinced he could text and drive just fine on the highway. Looked at me like I was a total Karen. The average person is an idiot. Thats the crux of the issue.

Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction.

That's so much electricity though! That equipment is typically so cheap bc the power draw is nuts. I agree the pi isnt the right move but why burn up so much power when they won't be using practically any of it, to learn?

I'd suggest a small, used x86-64 mini-pc, throw in 16gb of ram and a HDD. If you dont pay for electricity, like in a dorm, then the old server-grade stuff is the way to go. Plus it will keep you very toasty in the winter.

I use ext4 for my desktop and zfs for my media server. Ext4 is faster, ZFS is more accurate and less corruptable.

Kbin has normal upvote/downvotes since a recent update.

No, you only see federated communities that someone on your instance has subscribed to. So at first there is nothing but you can theoretically see every post by subscribing to every community in every instance.

Its the same as dying. If you're that blase about dying then yea- makes no difference.

You can host a kbin instance with little resources if you have a VPS. Otherwise- you can find kbin instances with open sign-ups here: https://fedidb.org/software/kbin

Welcome. You don't need SSO because posts federate across all instances. From your kbin.social account you can search for news@lemmy.world to subscribe, vote, and post in that community. There are some glitches with certain instances that you will run into, for the time being, but things should smooth out over time.

The problem with the clone is that the original "you" died in the transporter. Are you assuming your conscious transfers?

You can do it from kbin if you need a holdover until its built into lemmy.

I've used mailbox.org for the last few years. They are a privacy-focused provider out of Germany. They aren't restrictive on the app you use, like proton, and offer an integrated PGP-signing solution.

@khazram Hello from kbin!

I think I'm overly sensitive because my power is very expensive and my home is getting pretty warm right now!

Is there a particular genre? I dont pay attention to most game stories. Some of these suggestions have an online mode but ive only played single player.

I wouldn't expect to see mastodon content in Lemmy at the moment; I'm pretty sure that functionality hasn't been built in. Kbin can view Mastodon content as "microblogs". I'm not sure how 'viewing lemmy content from Mastodon' is supposed to work since it doesn't work in the other direction.

This is part of the reason why I chose kbin- It should have the most potential content to federate with.

I'm surprised you're having trouble federating with kbin.social- that's always been working for me from my personal instance. I have trouble federating with a few lemmy instances though. Lemmy.ml is still blocking the kbin useragent. And the communities of infosec.pub, sh.itjust.works, sopuli.xyz, among others- cannot be discovered from kbin.

Lemmy.ml is blocking the kbin useragent at the moment. Not sure what's going on there.

This sounds awesome. Can't wait to check it out after work!

Navigate to /d/instance.to.block and you'll find a block button. You can also subscribe to all federated communities from the same page!

I think this is geared towards folks who are convinced counting calories doesnt work. That they are gaining weight even though they "only has 1k calories per day".

Until yesterday the page just had an 'x' on it.

This is what's happening here.

Right now its a bit of a mess while things are quickly developing. Ultimately, federated communities should look the same across the fediverse, with a slight delay.

There are some caveats to that around defederation.
