how do people on this site not realize that the points next to your posts affect how your posts are sorted and are literally the exact same system as reddit? am i just so blind that i can actually see the numbers next to my posts or is everyone here just trying to be so anti-reddit they'll make up bullshit that isn't reality?

Unless you have expensive equipment, you will get no quality improvement over 360bit from Spotify. No flagship phone or Bluetooth headphones have high enough quality for various reasons. So without dedicated equipment, they're not worth paying more than you do for Spotify now.

The comments are why most people go there. It's the major differentiator from other social media platforms. Holding a conversation on Reddit is much clearer than any other site. If YouTube has comments like reddit it would be a very interesting change to a lot of content that goes on Reddit at the moment.

Clearly it should have drawn Mr Miyagi.

The test are not mandatory to graduate high school, but most colleges require an SAT or some equivalent to get past the application. The SAT is falling out of favor though.

You can set up your own FTP server if you really care.

Ignorance is much stronger than apathy.

The problem is that it's worse for keeping topics centralized and fragments communities for external reasons. It's antithetical to the idea of a link aggregator where you centralize all of your news if you need to use several of them to make it work. Defederation should be a last resort to protect the admins from legal action, content manipulation, or brigading, not because beehaw thinks open signups harm their safe space. Making the internet a safe space is how we got to this point with Twitter/Google/meta/reddit, and everyone wants to do it all over again to rebuild their echo chambers.

wtf do the bots have to do with this? the issue is that multiple communities are all talking about the same article in many different places when they should be all talking about it in 1.

I would love to hear how this could possibly make exclusivity better. The only possible change is that all of the ABK library becomes Xbox/PC exclusive.

because being negative isn't allowed there.

Tbh that whole instance should have a rule about 0 self promotion to paywalled and/or abridged content without a link to the full source for free as well. It's really anyone to have any links stifled because he OP is an onlyfans model. If you wanna post here for advertisement, you better put up or shut up.

The problem is that nitch communities won't get populated unless a lot of people join. The league of legends sub is the largest video game sub on Reddit, and here it's barely active at all.

Okay, but if it lets me start my coffee maker by just thinking about it, I don't see a down side.

Idk, I have quite a bit of music fall off my liked playlist because of licencing. They're not mainstream popular tracks, and sometimes it's because they update the albums, but it gets annoying when a song I like and have listened to is removed, and if I wanna have it, I need to put a copy of it on all my devices by hand. If they had a way to sync devices with my personal tracks, and support for audiobooks, I would think it's virtually perfect. Too bad itunes doesn't work with Android or aupoort a Spotify plugin.

its real laid back because there's so few people there.

It's about transparency to the customer at point of sale. It's like nutrition facts for your internet, literally.

Well, it's being replaced with individual placement testing. It's not exactly much better, though the insane format being gone is probably an improvement.

He doesn't. There is 0 indication that the hyperloop was being built to have any affect on the high speed rail project, infact the much larger delays are from affluent communities not approving the deal, this blocking it's construction.

Of all the things about reddit, /u/sinkpisser420 giving sound financial advice was one of the best things about the platform.

thus defeating the purpose of link and comment agregation.

Compared to the downsides of virtually every alternative energy source, the downsides of nuclear are peanuts.

DVDs are not DRM free, they're just easily broken 15 years after the format stopped seeing innovation.

I have never seen a non nsfw post that wasn't porn on Lemmy.

the hot feed is the same as reddits rising feed. its not a hot feed, its just random posts that have gotten an above average number of upvotes in the last hour. this site is next to impossible to use between the lack of a hot page and all of the niche communities not being populated thus making the front page and your subfeed the same 5 communities, and they're all memes.

Dude, you downvoted 5 posts about the several different things happening with blizzard this week. Turns out, blizzard is in the news a lot this week for various reasons all centered around OW2. If you could stop and think for yourself you would have never made this post and would probably be much happier.

This is a long winded way to say you have no idea that yards can be utilized for recreational activities or art and that's why we have them.

No, you don't, plenty of people do. And my town is filled with various holiday decorations, flower beds, and shrubbery. It's not the corporate overlords indoctrinating this idea, people like decorating their house for Halloween.

but you just said lemmy has the exact same karma system reddit has.

Samsung literally just had an SSD drama with their recent drives burning through write cycles and killing the drive.

You could receive normal satellite internet the same way, the advantage starlink brings is that it's much lower latency than geosynchronous satellites and they're selling it for much less and more bandwith.

you need an account to go to an instance that isn't federated. this is the core flaw that makes this entire system unusable for normal people. you don't want to have multiple accounts just so you can post the same memes in 12 different servers to get 1/40th the interaction you would get if everyone was centralized. this isn't a discord server, its a link aggregator and decentralizing the aggregator is antithetical to making this service work.

and this site has that exact mechanic in the API.

unless communities and users become agnostic to instances, this problem will never be solvable. also defederation makes this virtually impossible.

And that system was irrelevant on Reddit just like it is here. You still have a total karma number in the API, every app I have used shows it, even if it is broken right now. Only the default theme on the web page hides the number. The only people who saw value in karma are the people who farmed it and the people who bitch about the people who farmed it. Either way, making posts that get a lot of upvotes specifically to get a lot of upvotes happens here just like I does on Reddit so idk what this OP is trying to say because they're farming karma lol.

yeah, a decentralized link aggregator just works!
