To anyone still on Reddit and/or moderates a sub, I would recommend deleting all of your content. Reddit is going to continue making money off of whatever you post, even if it's helpful. If you're worried about preservation, submit your content through an archiver. Don't let them continue to make money off of you when you are not valued. Down with corporate overlords.

It baffles me that they even used the word "expectations." Like... 'ma'am... I am not being paid. Do not have ANY expectations.'

Kinda shook at the Meta-supporting comments. They should not be anywhere near the fediverse. Meta is a business first and the users are the product. Companies now just want to maximize profits, minimize costs, and hoard wealth for... rocket ships? Fediverse itself is community-owned, independent, and decentralized.

With how new all of these controversies are, it's kinda baffling that people are still defending this company. They're going to continue to exploit anything and everything for profits. It wouldn't even surprise me if the genuine reason they're interested in this concept is because they want to take what's open-sourced, adapt it, and commercialize it. I would imagine they're thinking, 'why invest in a brand new backend when we can profit off of an existing one, unrestricted.' And this "meeting" that they're forming is basically a free forum for them to learn and ask questions about how they can exploit the Fediverse and find any way to profit off of it. "Off the record" anything is shady as fuck.

Valid question that can be expanded even further. Has Elon paid for... anything?! Last I heard, Google is still waiting on their payment for their cloud services. šŸ˜‚

Defense attorney Colin Stephens told jurors that Howald had peacefully co-existed with the gay and lesbian community in Basin for decades. Howald testified that he is gay. ā€œAt his core, Howald is not a crusading bigot, who is hell bent for leather on wiping lesbians from the Earth,ā€ Stephens said in his sentencing memo.

You've got to be fucking kidding me. Self-hatred being projected onto innocent people who just want to live their lives.

In 2006, Howald was sentenced to two years in prison for felony aggravated animal cruelty, after pleading guilty to shooting a chocolate Labrador at a southwestern Montana campground and decapitating the dog with a chain saw.

This is very alarming. There is no doubt that there are going to be human rights violations perpetually. Is it going to be a forced stay or voluntary? Horrible experimentation is going to be done here.

Meanwhile, Ottawa has yet to follow through on a promise six months ago to try seizing funds it says are held by Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich. No application had been filed in any provincial court as of last month.

Mkay, well... Canada better get a move on and pack up their bags to ditch Russia. I'm sure Putin will seize all Canadian assets in their regime whenever they please, just like with other companies.

This is a really tough topic and really gets me thinking about this whole system. Until Lemmy moderation tools get better, this is probably for the best. I just don't see a "real" reason to defederate at this point when anyone can make an account from the big list of instances and just sign up with a new account. That's some effort to go through, but I'm sure we all know how dubious and unrelenting trolls can be.

Just earlier today, I saw a post criticizing Beehaw, which lead down a rabbit whole of finding out what some of the more problematic instances are, and the entire premise is just being toxic and name-calling. There's no discussion in there. They just want a forum to type out and spread their hate.

Anyway, it's not definitive so let's just see where it goes from here. If anything, a lemmy.world account + a beehaw account is the best of both worlds.

My ideal wishlist would be to be able to block problematic instances entirely, then a block for specific users of a specific instance that fundamentally makes interaction impossible with Beehaw. Almost like an "okay, @JohnDoe123@123.com has bad activity. @JohnDoe123@123.com can no longer see posts or comments that originate from Beehaw. @JohnDoe123@123.com is automatically added to a global block list for all users @beehaw.org." It would also be nice to have more options like accounts younger than a week old or that don't have a verified email, etc etc can't view or participate in discourse.

I disagree. We should be discussing Reddit even more. It's only a matter of time before web crawlers see Reddit being mentioned so much, it might just end up being on the first page of search results. Advertisers are going to see less value from Reddit as it slowly becomes just low-quality posts, users who don't spend money, and adblock users on the platform.

Which is actually what some communities are doing now. Unless moderation tools are expanded, this is probably going to be the best way.

This is a wild article. Someone please tell me it was written by AI. šŸ˜¶

Complicated to say since I'm no expert. Technically, they weren't authorized to use it because they did not include attribution.

I don't see a NSFW picture... I linked the source post, that's all. Probably a Lemmy bug lmao.

Well, good for xqc for nabbing that deal. He would be a fool not to. But $100 mil seems like a massive investment for his... 'content.' It's definitely going to attract the wrong viewers that are extremely unhealthy for the platform, severely limiting the potential for more advertisers.

The ownership of Kick.com is currently unconfirmed. However, there are signs that suggest the crypto gambling site Stake.com may be backing the project. Job listings posted by Australia-based start-up Easygo state that ā€œKick.com is a new venture created by the founders of Easygo and Stake.comā€. Stake accounts also created and previously moderated the Kick subreddit. According to confirmation by Stake representatives, Eddie Craven, an owner of Stake, is not the owner of Kick.com, but only an investor. Trainwreck could also have a stake in the company.

Wow, Bing's search is pretty damn good and linked sources. Anyway, this is actually so predatory of a business I don't even want to delve any deeper than I did in 10 minutes. He's going to actively push users toward these gambling websites, and we all know how destructive that addiction can be.

I think this is all for show, to be honest. The New York Times broke the story, but do they even do pieces like these? Is it possible this Stake company paid for NYT to publish the article? They even include statements from Kick and xqc. I'm not a subscriber so it's a genuine question. I think the crypto gambling people and xqc have a shady partnership going on and he's not actually receiving $100 million, but definitely is getting paid. It just seems that $100 M for one person isn't fiscally reasonable. Anyway, crypto on its own is shady and combine that with gambling? Sounds like trouble.

I agree! I'm liking it too. It's almost like that saying people would tell us as kids: "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all."

Thanks for posting! This is wild. Internals are probably a disaster, to say the least.

like all blowups on Reddit, this one will pass as well'

I hate this part so much. Corporate overlords be gone!

So... here's a hot take I guess (disclaimer: i am an iphone user): People who are actively complaining about Apple having features that are unique to its platform don't know how products work. Apple created this technology and design themselves and other companies want to leech off the features. We should want competition like iMessage vs whatever Android uses. For anyone to basically say Google doesn't have the ability or resources to create an actual competitor is silly. They absolutely can make an alternative, but they choose not to. Google becomes complacent and progress slows or completely stops. I'd rather have a product that is FEATURE-FULL than feature-less. Additionally, this contact feature thing is neat, but I wouldn't call it a "game-changer" or revolutionary. It's similar to the super old ability that some cellular providers had/have where you could play a specific song instead of the calling tone.

Interesting enough to get a gaggle of billionaires in a bolted metal box and explore the capsized boat. šŸ¤Ø

I bookmarked this archived imgur album about the massacre. It's a sobering read. Content warning, obviously.

'But the Earth is flat.' šŸ˜’

Very true. Dahmer, Bundy, DeSalvo... the list goes on. It's a quick query away from Google or whatever preferred search engine used: animal cruelty and criminals.

Could my phrasing have been more nuanced? Sure. I'm not really giving an opinion on it at all. It is what it is.

W11 has more efficient power usage and task management. Outside of that, there's rounded UI and... uh... yea just rounded UI. If this is a new PC install or just like a fresh install, just upgrade to Windows 11. W10 is eventually going to be discontinued sooner and the changes aren't that drastic to warrant staying downgraded. I also recommend something like Open Shell to fix a lot of the gripes power users have with the UI, like the limited right-click context menus. Personally, I use StartAllBack. WinAeroTweaker is a great software to disable some telemetry, add important options to context menus, etc.

You can still game on Linux now with Proton.

This update looks like it's going to be a huge upgrade with tons of fixes and improvements all around.

Like my uncle Gump used to say: "Stupid is as stupid does."

I'm a US player and I've only been enjoying total mayhem. The game is way too slow and boring.

I really like the theme! I'm trying to create my own theme for fun and the finalized code for html/css is a MESS. Makes me want to rip out my hair it's so messy.

This was very poetic, yet cult-like. šŸ˜‚

What should our title be now? Lemmyors?
