From the NYT reporting

Although Mr. Musk acknowledged that an extended boycott could bankrupt X, he suggested that the public would blame the brands rather than him for its collapse.

lol, yeah, sure.

My CDN bill recently went from about $5 a month to over $200. Turned out it was Tictok’s spider relentlessly scraping the same content over and over again.

It was ignoring robots.txt. In the end I just had to ban their user agent in the CDN config.

Yeah. There must be tons of places that would choose Slack, or another alternative, over Teams if they weren’t getting Teams bundled into a piece they were already paying.

It’s known performance will be poor, but if it was that bad the ton of YouTubers doing their preview coverage would have been reporting it.

I wish premium would stop trying to add more stuff. I only want ad free videos, just do that, rather than adding loads of crap no one wants and then charging more because of the ‘increased value’.

Oh great, another key to accidentally press when I’m in a game.

Plus all the energy used in developing the feature in the first place. What a crock.

For anyone wanting a deep dive into how much of a scum bag this guy and his brother are then I can highly recommend the recent series on YouTube by ‘Common Sense Skeptic’ https://youtube.com/@commonsenseskeptic?si=AqKSiA55JOeTJeRo

I’d recommend anyone interested in the Voyager program to check out “It’s Quieter in the Twilight”. A film about the people involved in the project and how they’ve dedicated their lives to make it happen.

For folks in the UK if you’re in crisis contact the Samaritans https://www.samaritans.org/ call 116 123. It’s free and 24/7 and fully confidential. They’re helped me out in the past, don’t hesitate to call.

There are two tiers of side quests in cyberpunk. Gigs and full on side quests. The gigs are all pretty short ‘go to place, shoot / rescue someone’ stuff but the main side quests are generally more involved, including all the romance options etc.

The gigs can be skipped without missing much, but skipping the side quests misses a ton of story IMO.

I won’t be at all surprised if Threads is not much more than a skin over the instagram backend, which would lead to these kind of outcomes. Folks like the think of a sinister reason, but I reckon a technical one is more likely.

Heh. A much as I think Trump is a grade A bellend, that was actually a decent recovery.

Good, as a UK resident I hope Apple, Signal, even WhatsApp stick to their guns over this issue. It's the only way it will gain any traction with the public.

Usually interest free for 3 or so months. Pay 1/3 a month.

Thanks for the update Ernest, and best wishes for your health to improve.

I use it for free access to gpt-4 and dalle-3. Can’t say I use it as a browser though.

This is something the EU got right by limiting interchange fees to 0.5% rather than the 3%+ in the US. It stopped companies charging consumers extra for credit transactions and also stopped weird outcomes where airlines and hotel companies became more interested in their branded credit cards than in providing an actual service.

Most notable thing about this game was it was one of the first to launch with FSR3 frame generation. Other than that I think I’d have completely forgotten about it.

I also requested my export a week or so ago. If it’s not received within the 30 days I intend to report them to the ICO under the terms of the UK-GDPR

I think auto generated subtitles were to fulfil a FCC requirement, some years ago, for content subtitling. It has however turned out super useful for LLM feeding.

Seems like an interesting spin on what is basically ’random’. Probably a decent way to get content in front of users that might be outside their normal recommendations.

Is it some essential new feature, no, it’s just a bit of fun to find some new content.

total expenditures potentially reaching $9 billion

I imagine they negotiated quite the discount in that.

What’s new: “changes to improve your overall experience “. Haha. Sure.

Likewise. Helldivers 2 has proven there’s some life left in the otherwise moribund live service category, by doing something different and most importantly fun.

Somehow I think battlefield will fail to learn anything from Helldivers success and end up churning out another over monitzed, rather dull, addition to the category.

Yeah it’ll come to the Air’s and the Mac Mini at some point. I suspect it’s actually cheaper to make on the new process node (it’s the second generation of TSMC’s 3nm process), so maybe it won’t be too far off.

The difference being the use of frontage roads. The entrances and exits from the main carriageway onto the frontage roads will be between this exit and the next.

If I remember rightly the clip features a weightlifter who’s trying to jerk some ridiculous weight. They go to lift and their arms just detach from the shoulders leaving their arms behind as the guy stands up.

Yeah this has been going on for a long old time on /r/dwac_stock. Lots of ‘diamond hands’ buy the dip’ etc… that said I expect a bunch of folk ended up making some decent cash when it went public, but anyone holding now is just asking to be a bagholder.

holding them in your retirement account

Hahahahaha. Not going to be much in the bag at that point.

Somehow I see to have completely missed this guy on my play through!

While YouTube doesn’t commission, much, content it does store disproportionately more data. A streaming site has maybe 1,000,000 hours of content. That amount of content is uploaded to YouTube every day. It’s a totally different business model.

Yeah if you treat it is a junior engineer, with the ability to instantly research a topic, and are prepared to engage in a conversation to work toward a working answer, then it can work extremely well.

Some of the best outcomes I’ve had have needed 20+ prompts, but I still arrived at a solution faster than any other method.

I wish they would offer an option without YT Music. I'm happy to pay for YouTube without adverts, but it annoys me that I'm paying for a music service that I don't use and I reckon they only bundle it in to fluff the subscriber numbers for the service.
