Unpopular opinion I guess, but I think Teams is actually pretty good at my workplace.

That may be, but I'm not sure that's a problem for a communication platform. I remember one time when they moved the share screen button around and some less tech savvy users thought the feature was removed!

Teams has something like chat threads too. E.g. you can reply to a message in a channel and it groups all replies, and you can also focus that thread if you want. But I agree it isn't hidden "off the main topic" quite like slack threads.

I can't say I've run into those issues with the new teams. Worst I've experienced is the app freezing during a call, which has happened twice in the last year or so.

The argument for AM appears to be: the vast majority of adults will receive an emergency broadcast through their cellphone, but what happens if some event has already occurred which disabled large portions of the cellular network (which itself is an obvious target to create havoc)?

I'm fine with using AM as a redundant system for alerts.

Maybe make it more useful though for people in the car? I don't need an AM button I'm never going to touch. Instead have it monitor whatever the emergency broadcast frequencies are automatically, and put something on screen when there is an alert. That would make it a useful "modern" feature as opposed to appearing as a legacy holdover.

I recently went through these exact pains trying to contribute to a project that exclusively ran through Discord and eventually had to give up when it was clear they would never enable issues in their GitHub repos for "reasons."

It was impossible to discover the history behind anything. Even current information was lost within days, having to rehash aspects that were already investigated and decided upon.

Even if we accept the premise that remote workers "don't work as hard," so what? They're either fulfilling their job responsibilities or they're not.

This finally pushed me to stop supporting the platform with a premium sub and now here I am, checking out lemmy!

I am not using passkeys until it's possible to easily migrate them between providers (not just devices / browsers). If I used Proton Pass, and then later decided to use another password manager, could I export my passkey data?

It's an excerpt from "All Boys Aren't Blue" and appears to be rated for grades 10-12. It's about abuse and isn't erotic. I think the author's note fully explains the intent, which is totally lost on the senator:

In writing this book, I wanted to be as authentic and truthful about my experience as possible. I wanted my story to be told in totality: the good, the bad, and the things I was always too afraid to talk about publicly. This meant going to places and discussing some subjects that are often kept away from teens for fear of them being "too heavy." But the truth of the matter is, these things happened to me when I was a child, teenager, and young adult. So as heavy as these subjects may be, it is necessary that they are not only told, but also read by teens who may have to navigate many of these same experiences in their own lives. This book will touch on sexual assault (including molestation), loss of virginity, homophobia, racism, and anti- Blackness. These discussions at times may be a bit graphic, but nonetheless they are experiences that many reading this book will encounter or have already encountered. And I want those readers to be seen and heard in these pages.

FedEx has one of the worst phone support systems. It goes out of its way to tell you you're an idiot for wanting to speak to a human being because you can't possibly need any more information than what it has already told you. Then it proceeds to just hang up on you.

As an American, we don't know either and it's terrifying.

It's almost as if she has no interest in preserving the strength of our union. I wonder who that really benefits...

The entire article seems designed to confuse if not intentionally mislead the reader.

"Unconditional" certainly would have fit in the title.

Or, if not, it could have been added to the text below the title that instead juxtaposes Republican opposition as if to suggest Bernie has the same interests as Republicans.

Or, it could have at least been in the first paragraph where they state Bernie's opposition again.

But no, you have to read through nearly half the article to find that important qualifier in paragraph 5.

It's hard to imagine this is anything other than an attempt to misrepresent his position.

We're not tearing society down because of this.

Apparently where we all pee is a foundational aspect of society?

Edit: To clarify, I'm not suggesting we should all go shit in the streets or that public restrooms should not exist. Rather, it's absurd to suggest that picking a restroom, one that someone else doesn't agree with, will lead to the destruction of society.

There are huge gaps in ipv6 adoption which means most users and services must continue to support and use ipv4.

Since everyone has to continue ipv4 support, there's not much motivation to push general adoption of ipv6. Maintaining dual stack support has its own costs.

Even within AWS, many of their services still don't support ipv6. AWS fees for ipv4 addressing may end up being a comparatively big driver for adoption.

It's paywalled, but no worries, we all know the answer: they're going to carefully examine the policies each candidate puts forth, consider their respective past job performances, and make a principled decision with their vote balancing their own interests as well as the country as a whole.

Just kidding! They're going to be "uncomfortable" voting for the orange asshat who will do absolutely nothing for them and whose goals include revenge and "absolute immunity" so that he avoids any consequences of being a fraudster, rapist and traitor.

I don't understand how these absurd arguments aren't laughed out of court.

Who is John Sauer and why does anyone take this unfounded nonsense he's saying seriously?

You mean pretty much a single GitHub account?

Also your quick question may have already been asked and answered but difficult to find on Discord. Or if it hasn't been asked yet, now a future person can't discover the same question easily. So either way you're just wasting other people's time.

That's excellent. Thanks for pointing that out!

Suburbanite: Child, go open the instacart app on my phone and have some eggs delivered by an underpaid driver for $35.

A member of the Republican party should be selected at random and ejected from the house each and every day they fail to elect a speaker.

It should have been $5,000 a day until he apologized to the staff named in his attack.

The use of the word "allow" here betrays his real belief, that he thinks he is in a position of power to rule over his constituents and decide for them what they are allowed or not allowed to do.

Good for you that you didn't take that lower path cut short.

Who's to say any of those other paths would have been any better or worse than your current path?

I use an app called Recipe Keeper. It's amazing because I just share the page to the app, it extracts the recipe without any nonsense, and now I have a copy for later if I want to reuse it. I literally never bother scrolling recipe pages because of how terrible they all are, and I decide in the app if the recipe is one I want to keep.

It also bypasses paywalls and registration requirements for many sites because the recipe data is still on the page for crawlers even if it's not rendered for a normal visitor.

Good. Please proceed as quickly as possible.

The statement from Planned Parenthood includes:

Despite the Attorney General’s demand that PPSLR turn over all patient medical records related to gender-affirming care, the court ruled that individual patient records remain protected — a major victory for patients' privacy rights.

I suspect this means the AG may receive de-identified records including procedure or diagnosis information, but not including any patient identifying information such as patient or billing account, name, address, social, date of birth, date of service, etc.

It could also include aggregate information about providers and facilities, especially if records are obtained under the guise of a fraud investigation, allowing the AG to target locations and providers where patients frequently obtain specific services. That route might be the most harmful to patients, for ex. if they're unable to continue receiving care because of harassment of the providers.

I'm not sure how this is different from Google pushing popups in every Google app to switch to Chrome.

You should get 33% more pay as the full work force productivity would be 4/3 of the original in your example.

This difference might be clearer with an example where only half of the work force is required to match the original productivity. In this case, if the full work force continues to work, productivity is presumably doubled. That's not a 50% increase. It's 200% of the original or a 100% increase. So the trade-off should be between 50% fewer working hours and 100% more pay.

Of course, instead you'll work the same hours for the same pay and some shareholders pocket that 100% difference.

Advertising is intended to manipulate preferences and choices. Why would I willingly subject myself to such manipulation?

How is this different from the capabilities of Tesla's FSD, which is considered level 2? It seems like Mercedes just decided they'll take on liability to classify an equivalent level 2 system as level 3.

Do you have some insight into what the left could do though? I'm frustrated too, but it's not as though Democrats are voting these people into office. What would "digging these lunatics out" look like and how would it change things?

Honestly I don't understand what's wrong with the subscription model. You get YouTube ad free and YouTube music.

I'm sure they have at least ten other ridiculous arguments to try and waste time before they would even need to argue innocence.

It's not skippable as far as I can tell. It also frequently advertises shows I've already watched. Sometimes it advertises the show I'm trying to watch.

I'm pretty sure it also has the "ad counter" showing on the screen during this as well.

Here's what they call it in their docs:

You'll also see a quick preview only once per day before any show to keep you up-to-date on our original programming.

It's not an ad, it's a "preview." /s
