This is absurd. Where's the step to grow a beard and become a hobbit?

How's the dualsense running on Linux? I opted for Xbox elite purely because I thought it'd have better support for the back pads but still not over bluetooth :-(.

Videos haven't had a single ad in years. It's always multiples bunched together and inconsistent as to whether you can skip or have to wait it out. Shows only ever have one opening (sometimes an ending as well) and their less predatory.

It costs $49.99 per year (or $11.99 per month)

Why in the hell does the monthly price end with you paying 280% more than the yearly. That is such an absurd discount I don't even know why someone would pay at all for this app but more so I want to understand where the price justification is and who came up with this plan.

To be clear I support artists and more than welcome a platform for them to share and sell art if they wish... I don't get why it needs to be a subscription service and I don't see how such inflated charges are going to help artists as it'll just discourage large numbers of people wanting to support them.

I still blame valve a lot for this. Their TOS offer us no protection. Publishers should not be able to retroactively lock down a game. Diminishing the game performance or adding unwanted DRM after purchase should be a refundable offense. People choose whether or not to buy games based on properties like these.

Alt-escape should still work on these as well. Effectively minimises them.

What is the basis of consistently here. Take2 broke Linux support for bioshock infinite a couple years back and valve refused my refund request. IME they have not done so. If they are for GTAV that's great. Maybe they only started doing this after the steamdeck came out but really they should have protections in the TOS to safeguard consumer purchases.

I don't think vote to obscurity can apply here. Trump will always have a platform because he is a living engagement machine and that drives the Internet mad. He wins he's the top story, he loses he's the top story, he gets convicted he's the top story. The man is immortal in the worst way possible and the world is basically f*cked.

Wow, what restraint. Now I definitely trust this guy who can't even trust himself with highly confidential information and the nuclear codes. /s.

Game preservation is dying because of DRM. You want games you can still play in 10 years, pirate that sht and donate to those keeping up the good art of game cracking. It's either that or buying remakes a decade later that are just thinly reskinned. I can live with sht like denuvo since newer games just remove it after a year and then I can buy it. Storefronts like uplay or egs that are dependent on a malignant profit only entity are at best mid-term rentals and at worst spyware you have to pay for the privilege to use.

This specific talk was about defining shared common interfaces so these different groups could work together and the guy who actually talked him into stepping down essentially said "I'm gonna keep writing C and if that breaks your rust stuff that's not my problem". This isn't about convincing the c devs to write rust it's about convincing them to work together when some of them seem to have made up their mind to sabotage rust support (either through indifference or willful interface regressions). Personally I'm more ashamed what this points to for someone new wanting to come in contribute to Linux.

Israel at least seems to care about Israelis from my perspective. Hamas just sees Palestinians as collateral damage.

It's false equivalence to claim steam has a monopoly when you're literally giving epic a monopoly on your games for financial kickbacks between yourselves that in the best case doesn't impact the user and worst case actively compells them to a much worse platform. What epic and gearbox did is monopolistic, what steam did is just make a good enough product that no one gives a sh*t about EGS. If you want an actual competitive store front, make something your users want, not your business partners. Gog is struggling but it's still my first goto for games because even if it's missing all of steams functionality, it gives me ownership of games that can't just be revoked or broken by publishers. That's a value add I'm willing to pay for. Paying more so publishers can make more money and sell a worse experience through EGS ain't moving me.

I read this as grindr loses 50% of its engineering staff because of dumb management decisions. Honestly the RTO was probably just a cop out to their dwindling user base.

after Apple started letting users choose their default browsers on iOS 17.4 in the EU last week.

Lol, srsly, why does anyone use apple devices willingly. Like for work I sorta get it if there's no alternative but it really took government action to compell this extremely basic customisation.

This dude is balls to the wall hilarious. If it wasn't for the fact that he was dead serious about everything he says I might enjoy him as jester.

This is such a bizarre point. Why does anyone try to use existing services when they can just make their own. Go dig a well for water and build your own dam for hydroelectric power.

Last July, the U.N. adopted a resolution condemning Quran burning, calling attacks on the Muslim holy book "religious hatred." The same month the U.N. General Assembly passed a resolution that deplores all acts of violence against holy books as a violation of international law.

Holy books shouldn't be protected as some sort of sacred existence especially not globally. Religions should be scrutinised at all levels, putting any religious relic on a pedestal and enshrining protections that seem less focused on protecting followers of that religion and more on the idea of it is absurd. What's next you can't call scientology a cult because it hurts people's feelings.

Edit: adjust phrasing.

I have the utmost respect and appreciation for mullvad but I don't need a vpn without port forwarding so I cancelled my sub. They are still objectively the vest vpn, this is the only sticking point.

All the jokes aside, it's still amazing the CEO over a year in doesn't even know how profitable being an user that drives engagement on the site is compared to a (I guess) competitor like youtube. He's just like we're as profitable as youtube for you, or if not we can be, like the guy knows nothing and is just throwing claims out there with no basis in reality or plan to follow through on them.

You're aware he is a CEO of a company?

Most people don't wanna kill each other. And shooting back is probably going to raise the likelihood of getting murdered (i don't have any source for this). That said it is still absurd how the police flagrantly disregard peoples liberties, extra judicially execute them and get away with it with impunity. The societal contract is dead.

ISTG if trump loses, incites another insurrection and we still don't put him jail I don't know what the point of it is anymore.

Google has been shamelessly destroying all their projects the last few years in a desperate fit to make money. They've weakened ad blockers on chrome, they've altered the search algorithm so random BS is mixed in with regular to drive towards sponsored content, their starting to setup browser level DRM and creating un skipable ads. None of this is for anything more than greed and desperation. They no longer see anything other than money as the end goal and don't care if their selling a shittier product at a higher price than no one was ever even willing to pay for. F*ck google.

I don't really care what the ui is, I just want some ui that isn't just reset "accidentally" an an os update or is bypassed by a company (cough microsoft) just tailoring their applications so they always open in edge in flagrant disregard for open standards.

I feel like mandating a certain number of years in some managerial governmental position would be more effective. Trump is basically a living example of how to get around that. Honestly a lot of democracy kinda assumes people elect competent and honest leaders and a lot of humanity are just brainwashed morons so we're stuck with what we got :/.

Uh, yes, definitely. A lot of guys would like this.

  1. Taking hostages for protection from running down and killing a bunch of civilians isn't a defence. It's literally what every bad person in any story does.
  2. If the intention is purely to use them for defence you don't have to treat them like garbage and shame them publicly.

They did this to continue the horror of what they already did, it was a power play not a smart play.

Not legal pressure, government pressure. They kept getting asked to disclose which accounts had which ports associated with then and share all the info on them they kept (which for some payment methods they do briefly). So they decided to remove the feature rather than potentially violate their founding principle of privacy and anonymity. Kudos to them. Of course f*ck the CSAM assholes who made the government get involved in this and cost us this feature.

Hah, no ones deluded enough to think trump wants to serve America or even that he gives a flying f*ck about what's good for it. This man is the pure crystallisation of "I don't need to win, I just need you to lose". He'll set this country on fire before taking any kind of responsibility or agency for the position he's vying for.

I mean, if you can afford it you should support industries. I pirate a lot. Movies. Games. Music. Etc. Nothing wrong with that IMO, at this point piracy is the closest we can get to true ownership over anything because the entire industry has f*cked over consumer rights for assumed profit. But I still buy physical releases because I don't want content I enjoy to die and I like building a collection of good content. Blurays are great (although also DRM encumbered :/), nothing beats the smell of new manga, and at this point music streaming is just a far better experience than piracy (I use qobuz). If you're young or poor then do what you have to to enjoy yourself. If you're an adult with a great salary then don't be an entitled prick. If theirs ways to support content you enjoy you should. If such ways aren't provided like most Netflix originals not having blurays then f*ck Netflix release some blurays if you want my money.

Thats subjective. Different people have different opinions on how this should work. Making the default open in the current tab still allows you to have the alternate behaviour with ctrl+click or middle-click. The reverse does not.

Umm.. honesty. Games used to run on the bleeding edge of performance. Not Bethesda games but just games in general. Now the release half broken blatant cash grabs and think no ones gonna call them out for it.

Pretty much the only unbiased take anyone can have. Both sides f*cking suck. I disagree that this is the turning point tho. We've been here before and we'll stay here until both sides come to the table and actually discuss a peaceful resolution to the conflict. It'll never happen with hamas so they have to go. It'll never happen with the current Israeli government so they need to be replaced with more diplomatic leaders. Neither is gonna happen tho, the continued conflict just puts more dependence on the bad actors that keep escalating it. Honestly I see hamas cracking before Israel softens but who knows if or when that'll happen. I wouldn't be surprised if this conflict continued far beyond my lifetime.

So any animal is fair game? In which case, dodo. You MFs ate us into oblivion, I'm gonna come back with species worth of pent up rage and an undead thirst for blood.

Edit: in retrospect I now realise a dodo would be super easy to send back to the underworld :-(. I'm gonna be... checks deadliest thing notes, a car.

I mean, that's a pretty idea but really it's just accepting monopolies outside of your personal means to affect. What the US is doing here is clearly profit and security focused, but Taiwan supremacy from what I can tell isn't the byproduct of its location or assets, but instead decades of investment and support in producing chips which inexorably lead to it being the best. Really if anyone else is willing to invest that to become comparable it's a good thing. It prevents a single entity dictating terms for everyone. In an ideal world we would just collectively share resources and things would cost a fair price for what it takes to produce them, sadly in a capital focused society its really whatever you make of it.

She's not senile and Biden is basically winning on a platform of not trump so I can only imagine she'll do better. The people don't like Biden, they dislike trump. No one currently in the running is anyone's first choice and pretending otherwise is just madness, so someone who has the advantage of not being fascist and not being senile only sounds like an improvement.

Funny, literally just found out today reddit is now only indexable by google. They have paid partnerships. So that specific feature (which I also make heavy use of) will continue to work but not on duck duck go or other engines. I'm gonna start appending lemmy instead of reddit and maybe just ditch google altogether. Search results have been pretty bad all round for quite a while.

Sadly I don't think bluetooth was really designed for how interconnected it has become. I'm still annoyed bluetooth multi-point is so broken :/, rather than interviewing multiple audio sources to the same speaker it just force mutes one when the other comes and at least for my momentum 4s I don't see an option to set the priority or suppress this.

Math and literacy are both fundamental and essential tools for a self sufficient adult. You don't need to remember how to to apply the quadratic theorem or complete the square outside of high school for most jobs. You do need to remember how to read and basic concepts like compound interest or multiplication. People who don't are ill prepared for life, not just adulthood.
