Reddit probably hasn’t even noticed the drop in traffic. Lemmy is a very niche site that is a peanut compared to Reddit unfortunately. I don’t see it becoming mainstream any time soon because it’s too complicated to understand for the average Joe.

If you are already on this site, have an account and are actively participating you are way beyond the average Joe. The average Joe will only find out about lemmy a year from now 😂

The real challenge will be seeing if the servers can handle the new traffic. It's already a bit on the slow side loading posts

Fantastic app, really puts Reddit to shame. Maybe if they didn’t spend all their efforts trying to add trackers and shit they would have a decent app

Doesn’t having the same community in several instances fragment the user base though? I know I can join a community in any instance, but on Reddit you have one “gaming” subreddit, here you have a gaming community in every instance

How is this different to using stremio?

The thing that’s weird to me is that say I like football (soccer). I’m sure there are dozens of “instances” have a soccer community, but which one should I follow? It seems like this architecture fragments the user base too much.
