So are we thinking 🤔 this would be more like figure skating? Perhaps power lifting? Maybe 🥋 judo?

I want to see a triple spin.

My NAS just arrived today. I'll have ~42 TB of self hosted storage for 1k.

Google is charging me something ridiculous like, 300 a year for the same.

"Oh no. Thats disgusting. Which one? There are like.. sooo many."

I think this kind of handwringing shows a fundamental lack of understanding of how the internet works.

Everything you've ever pushed your eyeballs against on the internet was hosted somewhere. These days its pretty much all in the cloud.

All this team did was write a wrapper to automate the instance creation, which I just happily paid for, because even though I could have figured it out, it wasnt work several hours of my time to do so. And if I did, I still was going to use the same cloud providers this team is routing through.

I just paid to host an instance to do my part to support the fediverse. If you are from the elest team jbenguira hit me up or maybe I'll hit your lemmy to get some help. Having some issues getting my domain to work and want to make sure I'm doing it right.

These baseless open ended questions are a strategy for injecting narratives into the public stream of consciousness.

There is basically no evidence for the premise, but we'll present it as through there were, knowing most people won't get past the headline.

It's not particularly unique to this article but it should be pointed out whenever you see it.

Please use mineral based sunscreen. The corals and turtles have suffered enough.

Damn I read that as free money for 🌮 tacos and got excited.

That's the neat part. You don't.

To me its the same as people who removed about Elon on twitter.

You hate the guy? Thats fine.

But why are you still using his product? Stop paying him.

ayyyyyyy gottem

We really really need to stop emphasizing growth of individual instances.

It entirely defeats the point of federation.

a completely silly use of literally everyone's time and money, as was the search.

If billionaires want to do life threatening tourism, then let them, but there should be no accommodations for the consequences.

I joined Reddit during the digg exodus. Before digg I was into fark and before fark, something awful.

It's good that things die. it's where new mediums come from. It also keeps the power with the user. It's an important part of the internet life cycle.

Rest in piss.

Son of a removed I want puts. Let them IPO ffs.

It was a plastic death tube that was totally uncertified and bound to fail eventually.

Sure, and if it's in your own personal risk tolerance, you should be well within your rights to do so.

The kind of reactionary hand wringing on this issue is telling about how conservative the world has become.

I think it becomes a question of what well back up and 'insure' as a society. Because we're willing to back people up and insure against the risk of driving in a vehicle, we require certain safety standards, levels of training, etc.

I think people should and need to be able to make all the stupidest decisions they can possibly make. I also don't think it's society's role to absorb that risk. I don't think a major search and rescue operation should have been undertaken for people doing something that was incredibly risky and dangerous. It's an edge that should stay sharp, and have real consequences. But I also strongly believe we shouldn't be regulating people's behavior to not also take that risk. That's their business and the whole point of living in a liberal society. As a society we get to decide which corners to pad and which edges to soften. I'd like to see us padding the corners and reduce the risk for an immigrants voyage on an over packed boat to try and better themselt rather than some dipshit billionaires obviously stupid hobby.

I think both of them having the right to take that risk is a fundamental human right. But we as a society get to decide which risks well offer some cushion to.

I think it's important to note how much hardscape and channelling has been done to prevent widespread and sheet style flooding, and how they contribute to this problem of ground water recharge.

Most places that are flat enough to build are flat enough to build because of thousands of millenia of flooding, especially sheet flooding, laying down sediment and making them flat. Then humans get annoyed because the flat low places floos, so they build flood control.

There is a post further down about how Muni water really isn't an issue and I agree with this. I've put up a couple posts explaining this on Reddit and hacker news. I could rehash it if some one was interested.

Sure, what odds?

I'm so glad I could be of service to you then. I'll consider my contribution valuable and hopefully I can make you laugh here and there.

Whatever Toronto.

Bro you post hundreds of times a day on here, and it's not even a remotely thought out thesis on society. You're just an imperialist and it's important to call you out on it.
