I'd like to add to the sentiment of this post by saying that if you ever used any of those amazing websites, I'm sure the developers will highly appreciate it if those with the means could consider contributing to their projects.

We all know how greedy and shameless YouTube can be, and yet those developers give us incredible products for free. And if you ever saw the entitled requests of some users on their projects' pages whenever YouTube implements some changes, and they have to rush to fix their code, I'm sure you would appreciate them even more. I've personally seen quite a few projects being abandoned because of the sometimes thankless job of being a developer, and I would hate it for any of these to suffer a similar fate.

So if you can and are willing, feel free to join me in contributing to:

Lmao serious 'fuck you' energy.

Out of curiosity I went to the project's page and saw more info on why they don't take donations:

Free. Open-source. For users by users. No donations sought. If you ever want to contribute something, think about the people working hard to maintain the filter lists you are using, which are available to use by all for free.

That just makes no sense. Next you'll tell me that onions have no business in making my Tor experience more anonymous either?

Is Lemmy.world not going to defederate from Threads? Did I miss something?

"I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve."

I also often question whether the thing I'd like to post needs to be posted (and in the process, I talk myself out of it)

Thanks so much for the link!

Time to migrate my account then ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Some people do. There are options (like Proton) that offer good services that respect their users and their privacy and I personally like to support that

They really didn't even try that to be honest. Bethesda has remained far behind and they don't seem interested in changing direction sadly

This mentality smells of "just say no" for drugs or "just don't have sex" for abortions. This is not the ideal world and we have to find actual plans/solutions to deal with the situation. We can't just cover our ears and hope people will stop

Welcome then! If you are still looking for a decent app for random scrolling on Lemmy go here and take your pick. We are truly blessed

While I do absolutely agree that single issue politics is a real thing like you showed, literally the only reply to your comment was "if you are a single issue voter, you're an idiot".

So I also think OP has a point here and we're talking more about the people who use the term as an ad hominem attack, which I certainly have seen plenty of. And now Lemmy has provided us with yet another example of people taking something legitimate and turning it into a weakness/attackable offence. Like some trolls and racist people on the right now talk about DEI in negative terms

It's the photo of a politician, which is against the rules that make this community pleasant for everyone else. You can find the guidelines of this community in the sidebar

It sucks that some nice people actually replied to your shitty comment.

They are a company, they don't support anything. They only look out for the most profitable paths to make money. Just last week Disney started giving donations to the Republican party again

It also depends on which cuntry you're from lol. In the UK and Australia for example it's a very widespread word

The middle class also doesn't exist and makes as much sense as trickle-down economics does. It's either working class or rich.

Was literally about to write the same. Definetly a +1 for Breezy from me too. Very customizable and with a lot of different information (like pollen levels which is amazing if you have allergies)

I personally use Thunder and I love it. I tried all other apps too but they never quite clicked completely with me. Have a good search!

Clearly an excellent boy, 12/10 for sure. Thanks for sharing and a virtual hug to you, I'm sorry for your loss

Indeed they can and do support things...things that will allow them to make more money. They are called investments.

The "fight" with DeSantis was all theatre and their "win" simply allows them to continue to rule on their land as if nothing changed.

And I think you are mixing correlation with causation: just because they happen to support and give money to Democrats, it doesn't mean they stand by them. In the same link you shared, it shows they gave money to the Republicans and Nikki Haley...which is not something someone would do if they truly supported the things you said they do.

And that's the whole point. They are not someone. They are a company, controlled by individuals who are simply looking to maximize profits. You think they are left- or center-aligned but that is simply because that reflects the majority of their customer base. If tomorrow the right suddenly comprised the majority of their customers, they would change side immediately.

I cannot believe people in 2024 still think giant multinational companies can "be on their side"

No, it really doesn't exist. It's an idea created by the rich to make some among the working class believe that they are different from the other working class people. But they are not. If you need to work to survive, you are working class.

And please, don't insult your intelligence or mine talking about trickle-down economy. That's also not a real thing

That's not what the middle class is. I'm not about to repeat myself. And the more you write on it, the more it's clear that you don't understand what you are talking about and never read anything on the matter but instead you're just writing about your personal opinions on the matter. Please stop spewing the insane propaganda of "the harder you work, the richer you'll be" and stop wasting my time

It's not "a wash". We are talking about the literal lives of people that are being ethnically cleansed with the help of this current administration.

I can tell you clearly think that's just a non issue that people can disagree on, but it's a historical event. And you can't just go "well then let's not talk about that and focus on the rest. Trump is worse on that". Sure, Trump is worse and is worse in everything. But that doesn't resolve the issue of the Palestinian genocide, does it?

They are "on their side" when it's in their interest to do so. Which, bluntly, is true for almost all people. Absolute altruism--doing a 'good' thing for which you receive absolutely no reward (including public recognition or a sense of smug superiority) at all--is so rare as to be extinct. That's how politics is always played, my dude

...that's literally what I have been saying. Matter of fact, your whole reply was just a different way of saying the same thing. You just repeated my points and tried to be cool by adding the "my dude" at the end.

I'm done with this pointless conversation. Goodbye

Aren't 70+ years enough time though? Those people are done. You can't ask them to swallow bitter pills for that long of a time while also telling them to shut up because "you are enabling the enemy". They have valid criticisms that some key people from the Democratic side are far too happy to ignore. Honest question...how do you compromise with an ongoing genocide in an apartheid state?

This post goes against the community guidelines, please remove it

Edit: you can disagree, but it still goes against rule 2 of this community and I'm so sick of having political photos everywhere. There are tons of political communities already, go post there please

I don't think you fully understand what you are saying. You are saying that Trump will be worse for Gaza and Palestine...while all of this has been happening under Biden's administration and with his support (the constant UN vetoes and the constant selling of weapons).

The Palestinian genocide has always been happening with the blessing of the US government. From that point of view, right now both candidates are exactly as good for Palestine. As in, they are not.
