it used to be the case that when you weren't able to enforce DRM on a piece of software anymore, you would offer it as a free download so people who bought it wouldn't lose it

it's gonna be someone nobody knew beforehand

in linux I use codium and add a symlink from code to codium, that way software that only recognizes code will work with codium (don't know why godot does it) and it works great, on windows I just couldn't make it work so I use code because unity only works with code and I have to use Unity for work also, I enabled the vscode store in codium because there are some extensions I need that aren't on the codium store

thinking about photoshop CS2 for instance, they offered the download and some keys that would work on it

i didn't de-lid mine, just changed the thermal paste and pads, and it's working fine, might considered doing it in the future

here's a video i followed, it shows a bunch of mantainance and restoration stuff https://youtu.be/iuOlxAYLTM0

they don't have to keep supporting, just not make it unavailable the best case would be if they made it open source, in that case other people could keep maintaining it, but would be against their profit incentives

beyond good and evil is great

Death Stranding

I went on a trip with some friends that also had decks so I put a sticker on mine to recognize it

It's been there since last november seems to hold up quite well. It's one of those made for electronics stickers

today I tried the olliefrog and flutter away demos, pretty cute I must say

gog isn't my main platform for games (mainly because there's no good support for steamdeck) but some games I've played that I liked are:

I'm finishing spider-man and will start miles morales after that

Spider-man remastered

nier automata on the deck, a friend gifted it to me for my birthday

with male being the only option for years in most games, i started choosing female characters to get a different experience nowadays it depends on the game, sometimes i like the female voice better, sometimes it's about the romanceable characters and sometimes about the character design

think about all the resources currently spent on stopping people from using software

if you're interested, spider-man remastered took me 27.4 hs

technically it's not 100% btw, i did everything that makes the completeness indicators go to 100% but didn't get ultimate on all challenges

i got a broken ps3 from a friend that i fixed and i'm having a blast but i would't say i recommend buying one, if you get one cheap, sure, go for it, i've seen people on reddit find the slim version for 50 bucks and many thrift store finds as well. if you're don't want the hassle of having an unsupported console, i would consider emulating on pc, i triend persona 5 a while ago and it looked better than on ps3

I played it twice in a weekend, so be ready to wait

It came in this pack, don't quite remember where I bought it, I think it was a store in madrid

haven't used spotify for a while now but I heard you can specify if you don't want what you are listening to to affect your recommendations

there's a decky plugin to use google drive or one drive (it should work with any other cloud service but requires extra setting up), haven't tried it but seems to do just that

22.4 hours according to steam. I started friday evening and finished sunday night, leaving for a few hours in the middle.

does it have a mode that enables both gyro and analog triggers? I have a pro+ and you can set it to switch or xbox so you can have gyro or triggers but not both, it's annoying

I recommend Augmented Steam, it's an extension for browsers that integrates itad among other things to the steam store, so you can see if there are better deals on other stores while you browse.

i'd recommend the 8bitdo pro2 but it can't enable gyro and analog triggers at the same time, for that reason I mainly use a ps4 controller when docked, you can set it up to enable gyro when pressing L2 so you get better aiming, it works great the 8bitdo controllers would be way better if they had a ps4 mode

I have a jsaux hb0602, no complaints

i just finished spider-man miles morales 100% and don't know what to play next

I find Townscaper really relaxing, there's no objective, just a toy to make cute looking towns. Haven't tested it on steam deck tho.

If you like building/puzzles there's Shapez (this one I tried on steam deck and it might take some time to get used to the controls), it's like factorio but abstract and without resource management, you just make machines that modify and combine shapes to create new ones, it get's progressively complicated, if it's your thing you'll find it quite addicting so be mindfull of that.

For sims there's Two Point Hospital, (Two Point Campus came out recently but I haven't tried it), Planet Coaster and Cities Skylines (if you're into the hard stuff)

Here are some more narrative driven games that I like:

  • Life Is Strange: Graphic adventure with a cool twist and a compelling story
  • Child of Light: Chill RPG in the style of a children's story
  • Blacksad: Cool detective graphic adventure
  • Both FAR games Lone Sails and Changing Tides: Puzzle platformer with a story told just with the environment, I recommend playing both one after the other in order
  • SteamWorld Heist: Tactical RPG in a side 2D perspective with ricochet. I haven't played much of this one but it's very cool
  • Gris: an interesting platformer with really nice looking animation
  • A Short Hike: A cute adventure game about exploration
  • Oxenfree: An interesting graphic adventure with a cool story
  • Night In The Woods: Platformer adventure with an interesting story and great characters

what i see today is games are super accessible and everyone owns a portable gaming device, my parents are over 60 and they both play games on their phones, although they would't consider themselves gamers or anything close

i think the barrier to entry on core games gets higher with age so casual games on phones fit nicely within that demographic

Death Stranding on steam deck, the version I got for free on epic

with heroic launcher, it handles everything for you

it was a bit finicky but I got starlink to work using lutris and now it works fine in game mode

on xcode i would say it has a 50% chance of working
