Sometimes....

My motherboard is a stock dell from around 2012 so I doubt performance would be at all good. Thats even if it worked in the first place....

While I appreciate the utility of snaps and flatpaks for providing sandboxed, cross-platform apps, I've often found them slower than traditional packages. Their tendency to take up more disk space also feels inefficient, especially when system resources are sometimes precious. For these reasons, I generally prefer using apps installed directly through the system's default package manager, which tend to offer better performance and use space more efficiently....

GPU passthrough has always been one of those exciting ideas I’d love to dive into one day. My current GPU being a little older, has only 4GB of RAM. Oh the joy's of being a budget PC user. Thankfully it's more of a "would be nice rather" than an "actually need"....

I honestly don't care about dethroning windows or anything related to it. All that matters to me is that my Linux system works the way I need it to....

I hadn’t logged into my Twitter account in over a year. When I finally did recently, I simply shared a link to my Mastodon account. A few days later, I went to check a Twitter link, only to find my account had been banned....

Cheers for all of the work you Devs have put in....

The operating system in use shouldn't be a factor. Consider opening your laptop to perform a thorough cleaning, and also consider replacing the thermal paste as well. If you're not comfortable doing this yourself, taking it to a repair shop is a viable option. Investing in a cooling stand for the laptop would also be beneficial....

N I N T E N D O C A N E A T S H I T ! !

In the past, some people have expressed dissatisfaction when I've sent them files in .odt format. However, it's the superior format in terms of support and functionality, so I always make them aware of that and of the fact that I will never use some shitty ms product....

Personally, I consider a "bloated system" to be one that has a bunch of installed apps that I'll never use....

I personally like ethernet because it's so reliable & I've never had any problems. In my house WiFi can be so unreliable, whereas ethernet has been nothing but awesome....

I try to buy all my music directly from the artist in CD form whenever possible. Whenever that's not possible, I try to get a version that I can save locally & play offline....

Fuck em..
Just buy music directly from the artist whenever possible....

Spotify & pretty much most music streaming services. I buy all my music directly from the artist whenever possible....

The update has broken a bunch of things for me..
On my desktop using firefox, I cannot get images to display & everything is slow to load. On my android phone, boost was showing me a ton of stuff that I do not follow & wasn't showing me any info about my profile (profile tab would not load or something). Boost eventually logged me out & I have been unable to log back in....

I love YouTube, but the site often annoys me in many ways. On my computer I use newsboat along with yt-dlp to download all the videos I want to watch offline. This way, I can watch content without dealing with any of the site's frustrations....

Haha, when I first moved into the house I'm living in now, my wife was never done tripping over my cable. I'd yet to mount it to the wall at that point....

Yea WiFi is definitely great for certain things, but not everything. My wife has friends over at the house from time to time, and some of them ask why I'd rather run a cable from the router to my computer instead of just using WiFi. It's easy enough to explain, but because they are not all that technical, it's hard for them to understand, I guess....

Endeavour is basically Arch but with bling out of the box & an easier installer....

Screw x, I literally don't care what happens to it at this point. At one point in time "twitter" was actually half decent, then it just went to shit....

Anxiety at its finest !!

How about instead of making yet another Linux distro, you just make an install script instead? I'm personally more likely to try out an install script over a totally pointless ISO....

It ain't the same, and probably never will be....

For the most part I use ncmpcpp with mpd, but sometimes whenever I just want to listen to a single file I use mpv --no-video instead....

The year was 2002 & I was fed up with windows for various reasons. Connected to the internet looking for a windows alternative & ended up finding slackware. Installed slackware & got it somewhat working. Happily used it for a short while, before moving on to Fedora Core when it was released....

There's nothing wrong with using something like KDE. I myself use XFCE. Use whatever you like and are comfortable with....

I wish developers would just support Debian rather than Ubuntu....

Let's hope it never has to come to that....

I ditched all top programs on my system, because I have no use for any of them....

Not upgrading your system for like 6 months is a really bad practice that should not be recommended ever. If you don't want to upgrade your system all that often, then why not install something like Debian instead of a rolling distro?

Had a similar problem with both jerboa & thunder installed through obtainium on my OnePlus 9 pro. Ended up installing liftoff & have yet to experience the problem (touch wood)....

Forgot to mention that mpv is how I actually watch the videos. Newsboat downloads a list from each channel kinda like an RSS feed. I can then select any video & download it by pressing a keybinding. It's been a while since I last had to actually set this up, but off memory, here's some quick info....

The file ~/.newsboat/urls contains URLs similar to the one below. Just replace CHANNEL_ID with the actual channel ID. You can find the channel ID in the URL of the channel's page..

https://www.youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?channel_id=CHANNEL_ID

With the URLs in place you can edit your newsboat config file to set up a key binding for downloading videos using yt-dlp. It should be as simple as adding something like the following to the config..

macro d set browser "yt-dlp %u"; open-in-browser ; set browser "xdg-open %u"

This binds the d key to use yt-dlp to download videos.

While I'd personally never install or use this, it good to know its there for the extremely small percentage of people who'll want or need it....

Said goodbye to infinity myself this week. Super sad because I've used infinity daily for a number of years now....

Install nerd fonts & place the line below in your .bashrc....

bash export PS1='\[\e[0m\] \[\e[0m\] \[\e[0m\]'

Again I'd just like to thank you for all the hard work you & all the other devs are putting into working on fixing everything that broke with this upgrade....

Yea I tried threads recently myself & had the exact same problems. I followed like a total of 3 people, yet my feed was filled with utter crap that I wasn't the slightest bit interested in....

Upgrading between Ubuntu lts releases never fully worked for me either. Something always broke or went wrong....

While I've nothing against neofetch, I prefer to use my own fetch because it needs little to no maintenance and has everything I need. I actually think that maintaining a neofetch config might actually be more work in the long run. Anyway.. I'm using plain old Bash for my shell prompt. I've just customized it using nerd fonts (see one of my other comments on this post for the command)....

This was a cool read. Thanks for sharing :) I've been an XFCE user since 2002 & can confirm that as a longtime user I've never really encountered anything other than a few small problems....
