robots.txt isn't a basic social contract, it's a file intended to save web crawlers precious resources.

I wrote a long-ish comment in another thread explaining why lots of people don’t like systemd.

Stuff like this is why people do like systemd.

The massive, un unixy and complex tools allow for very powerful and somewhat knowledge agnostic approaches to all sorts of problems.

One of the nicest things about systemds toolset is that it allows a person who relies on finding the problem and googling it to resolve thing much faster than their alternative, learn what’s going on and figure it out.

I don’t mean that as a pejorative, plenty of computer work is maintenance as opposed to engineering and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Of course they want the model collapse. Literally no American tech company has been about reliably, sustainably supplying a good or service or stewarding some public good.

They’re doing the vc -> juice stock -> gut resources cycle. Nobody cares about the model.

There’s no provenance for this actually being from Brecht, but it was originally published in Terra Nossa, a leftist periodical used to communicate Brazilian socialist ideas to English speaking Americans.

So weather or not Brecht, a Marxist, said those words or not: they’re not about voting!

the IDF hit the convoy three times with precision guided munitions over the span a couple of kilometers.

the claim was that they had seen someone who was alleged to be an armed terrorist enter the building hours before the convoy departed from it.

Was the pedophile accusation in the same thread in which you were claiming drag shows are too sexual for children? Was the disagreement about policing in the thread where you said rehabilitation doesn’t work and the only way to keep society safe is to lock up more people?

e1: the post wishing death on @cricket97@lemmy.world was in response to their multiple comments defending the dangerous actions of police that resulted in the death of a bystander made in a thread on !thepoliceproblem@lemmy.world, which has explicit rules against defending the police.

here's the post:

::: spoiler CW: descriptions of death

You’re a bootlicking asshole who worships cops. Your idea of justice is catch the “criminal” and damn anyone that gets in the way. Fuck you man. I hope you become some of that collateral damage one day. I hope your family gets to miss you because you were in the wrong place at the wrong time as some careless pig chased a stolen car straight into your driver’s side door. :::

and here's the thread in question in case anyone else wants to read it

I replied to another comment with this, but Debian 12(stable, bookworm) and 13(testing, trixie) are affected by this but 12(stable, bookworm) has a patch out in the security repo.

If you wanna know wether or not you’re affected,

apt list libc

will show your version and the one you want is 2.36-9+deb12u4

If you don’t have that,

apt update && apt upgrade

will straighten you out

13(testing, trixie) has 2.37, but it’s not fixed yet.

E: Edited to use apt list instead of apt show.

If it’s photoshop that programs been solid for about a decade under wine.

Idk about the other stuff.

Not pictured: a giant hand holding the lever flipper in place, forcing their participation and complicity in one major candidates genocidal intentions over another.

What’s the problem here?

All the stuff is listed as rule 1 and rule 2 and they seem to fit the description even without the helpful context.

There’s one ban evasion in there too.

Sounds like the Marxist mod is doing a good job.

You got two problems:

First, ai can’t be a tutor or teacher because it gets things wrong. Part of pedagogy is consistency and correctness and ai isn’t that. So it can’t do what you’re suggesting.

Second, even if it could (it can’t get to that point, the technology is incapable of it, but we’re just spitballing here), that’s not profitable. I mean, what are you gonna do, replace public school teachers? The people trying to do that aren’t interested in replacing the public school system with a new gee whiz technology that provides access to infinite knowledge, that doesn’t create citizens. The goal of replacing the public school system is streamlining the birth to workplace pipeline. Rosie the robot nanny doesn’t do that.

The private school class isn’t gonna go for it either, currently because they’re ideologically opposed to subjecting their children to the pain tesseract, but more broadly because they are paying big bucks for the best educators available, they don’t need a robot nanny, they already have plenty. You can’t sell precision mass produced automation to someone buying bespoke handcrafted goods.

There’s a secret third problem which is that ai isn’t worried about precision or communicating clearly, it’s worried about doing what “feels” right in the situation. Is that the teacher you want? For any type of education?

Idk if it’s even possible to vote uncommitted in the general, but I’m voting psl.

The problem is color management.

Apple solved it by taking control over both the display and the software stack that drives it.

Linux developers only have access to half of that.

There’s no reason. I switched to Debian after leaving Slackware around the reiser4 time. It’s real good.

Shoo, they’re breaking out the pablum early this time.

Rather than doing your duty to the democrats, why not recognize the weakness their propaganda indicates and use it to force them to take policy positions you want to get your support?

lol take that fucking boot out of your mouth.

No thanks.

They’re doing an awful job of harm reduction and I’m not waiting for fundamental systemic changes to the country’s election process to withhold support from the party that’s rug pulled me for 24 years.

The best time to stop supporting the democrats and put my energy elsewhere was 2000, the second best time is now.

I will also never vote for Joe Biden for any position again.

No, it’s not like that at all.

The op didn’t ask for a phone recommendation and I didn’t recommend instead that they use a laptop or desktop.

The op said they want to donate to a Linux phone because one day they believe they’ll be able to use a Linux phone. They want to pick the right one to give money to so it’ll have the best effect towards that end.

I said they shouldn’t do that because they can already use a Linux phone and there are tons of other Linux based projects where the money will go much farther.

We ought to be looking at this from a completely different perspective though: op is trying to maximize the value their donation has, and that’s a bummer. They should just donate to the one they like and not worry about effectiveness.

12 and 13 have patches out in the security repo. Apt update && apt upgrade fixed it right up.

this might be the saddest and dumbest thing i've ever seen.

there's immigration. when birthrates are too low they'll just open up immigration.

even if there wasn't a simple and straightforward response with historical precedent that hamstrings the sentiment expressed in the op, it's insanely depressing that anyone would ever think to pen the words "i'll kill myself to hurt you!" as anything other than the tragic, diseased ravings of a person abused and neglected by everyone around them.

“I said beetlejuice three times and now he’s here ruining my life!”

Commercial fridges already have this. They have a wedge under the hinge with a little shallow notch at the end. The weight of the door pushes the hinge on the wedge and it slowly closes the door when you’re not actively holding it open. The notch is so that it will hold open and is paired with a kick plate so you can give a little boot as you’re walking away to get it back on its closing game.

Look at public restroom stall doors for an example of what I’m talking about.

I’m not sure if it does myself but I wanna read what happened and those were the most recent threads I saw that roughly fit the description.

It’s because the rate of profit has a tendency to fall.

In addition to all that @MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca said, implementing an am or fm receiver on an existing device is as easy as plopping down one of the existing bga chips that has an antenna input and an audio output. here’s one of the bigger ones that needs a killer 3mm x 3mm land pattern. It’s also only $1.79 or so, which is expensive for an ic, but in the context of a phone wouldn’t contribute significantly to the cost of the device.

The need for an 1/8” out would be the worst part because ironically, phone jacks suck for uhh… phones.

Chy-na!

Thousandths of a hogshead gang represent.

I didn’t read any of that but Wayland doesn’t work with xscreensaver so I’m not gonna switch to it.

this was published during the lost decade's tumultuous end before brazil even had an election.

a few years after the ops quote was written inflation hit 84%, people were literally fighting in the streets.

it's more than a little out of context to say that the quote applies to voting.

Winamp is Winamp for Linux. It runs in wine, but a lot of the visualization stuff requires that you have fully integrated your gpu drivers and wine.

I’m not sure. I want to look it up and see what was said to them so I asked about the two threads they were commenting in most recently that it could be.

Idk what the person you’re arguing with is trying to say, but as a prolific user of open source software, there are thousands of serious vulnerabilities discovered every time some auditing company passes its eye over github.

Malicious commits are a whole nother thing and with the new spaghetti code nightmare that is python nowadays it’s extremely hard to figure out which commits are malicious.

Open source software is not more secure by default and the possibility of audit by anyone does not mean that it’s actually getting done. The idea that anyone who can write software can audit software is also absurd. Security auditing is a specialized subset of programming that requires significant training, skill and experience.
