I was on reddit once, but now I'm not.

I'm also gk99@kbin.social and gk99@mastodon.world

And they wonder why we think they're lunatics.

I'd argue reddit lost their identity days ago. Several iconic communities and features died with the API slaughter. Now it's just another link aggregator without the things that made reddit unique.

This is kinda why I wish we had user-level instance blocking, there aren't any popular instances that match my preferred blocklist and I don't want to have to go out and request federation for everything I want to see. For example, the top sites I don't want to see are lemmy.ml, lemmygrad, and exploding-heads, and while beehaw gets all three, they also block instances I don't find problematic like lemmy.world.

So I ended up on lemmy.world and manually block all the stuff I don't want to see, but it'd be loads easier if I could just ask not to be shown content from instances I want to avoid.

Maybe stop visiting a community called reddit???

Checks out, everyone polite moved to Lemmy and Kbin. The few times I've gone back to reddit since coming over here have each reminded me just how vile that place is and I have no regrets leaving.

This is the 50s, I think it'd be pretty easy to draw a line from casual racism to white supremacists. A key difference this time is that it's not just Germans led by one insane man, it's instead a bunch of redneck prices and conspiracy theorists.

Fortunately, I hate videocalls and have no reason to use them, so if my friend videocalled me I'd ask what the fuck they were doing and immediately be suspicious.

Hi, Tulsan here. Raised in this city as long as I can remember.

Only in the last few years has the Tulsa Race Massacre entered mandatory curriculum, I didn't hear about it until college. When I did hear about it, I also heard that it was purposely censored and historical records of newspapers were missing from libraries and the like. All these fuckers do is deny and pretend bad things didn't happen.

It's our own Tiannamen Square. To reiterate, it's the Tulsa Race Massacre. That has never been disputed. They wanted to lynch a black man and destroyed countless black homes. Please keep talking about this race massacre whenever relevant so that we don't forget it and let the republican disinformation machine claim another casualty.

Yeah, Elon has this idea that he can make WeChat but for places outside of China. An app you're effectively required to have as a means of communication, identification, payment, and whatever else, and he wants to call it "X."

The people who develop lemmy get paid to do so, as stated by iirc Dessalines themselves.

I would put donating to those running instances at the highest priority, because without servers, we have nothing.

Considering this is a temporary measure, I imagine not. Lemmy.world has been under constant attacks as the #1 Lemmy instance and it's not going to stop just because bots can't get in automatically anymore.

G2A sells sketchy stolen keys, so does Kinguin. I've never had an issue buying from them, but plenty of other people have.

There are plenty of reputable sites though. When I'm looking for a game on sale, I go to IsThereAnyDeal.com and all the sites they list are legit.

I don't think so, reddit was so dominant that had they simply not decided to anger all their power users, we'd all still be on there like nothing had changed. A good platform has staying power, I've been on Steam for 16 years and I have no plans of bailing on it because it's simply the best gaming platform I've ever used. It's not game lock-in or anything, most of my games I could buy elsewhere or pirate, I just like having the features and all these other ones popping up like GOG Galaxy still aren't overtaking it despite the good PR.

Bro I could say the same thing about global warming, vaccines, race, and abortions, but I'm still surrounded by people fighting progress. Vaping is no different.

I don't keep an ATM in my bedroom, unfortunately.

Only time I have cash for tipping is when I get tipped.

For all their complaining about safe spaces, they're the ones who seemingly need it the most.

Probably because reality is left-leaning.

To advertise. If your battery is at 17%, they're gonna advertise a wireless charger. If you listen to headphones at max volume and are jumping up and down at a concert venue, they're probably not gonna recommend you earplugs.

Republicans and Americans

No, just the Republican Americans. The ones who say they're Christian but completely ignore how often the Bible outright says to love those around us in favor of hatred because of some irrelevant thing that doesn't affect them in the slightest, like race or sexuality.

The rest of us normal people are capable of acceptance of each other and desire for the greater good.

No, federation means we all see the same content regardless of which site we sign up on with the exception of sites that yours may block.

But be wary that lemmy.ml is a tankie instance and the ".ml" stands for Marxism-Leninism. I generally avoid lemmy.ml communities so I don't get banned for saying "the uyghur genocide is a real thing" or anything.

The last three are a tragedy. Yakuza 0, Kiwami, and Kiwami 2 are the games in the series I recommend everyone play.

You should check with a doctor to see if they can help with your "I'm just an asshole unprovoked for no reason" problem.

Who needs lobbying when you can just collect blackmail data on politicians because they willingly install your app?

Probably a reason they have to come up with names like "libtards" while we can just say "conservatives" as an insult because it's self-explanatory.

Calling people the things they literally are is not name-calling. For example, conservatives tried to overthrow our government, tried to overthrow our democracy, and have been sending elementary schools in my town bomb threats for weeks. It's not name calling to say they're terrorists.

Edit: To clarify, the bomb threats are because a librarian joked about having a "woke agenda." These are the same types of people.

This wouldn't go in either

Dumb questions that could be easily answered with a search engine or AI are not my idea of ideal discussion and I don't see a point to retaining it. "Noob questions" are fine, using a discussion board as a first resource for a basic question is not.

My view on this very feminist piece is that Winehouse wasn't anywhere near as influential or impactful to music and other musicians as Nirvana

As just a casual music listener born in '98, I'm not sure I've ever heard a song by Amy Winehouse. I still hear Nirvana pretty regularly though to date.

Bro I'm already fat, this is making weight loss difficult.

Especially since they thought selling all their western franchises off at bargain bin prices to go all-in on NFTs was a good idea, and they've been pushing them to date despite continued unpopularity. Decisions like that aren't just out of touch, they're downright stupid.

It wouldn't surprise me if they ended up bought by Sony, considering their working relationship and poor leadership. Hell, I never bought FFVII Remake despite really enjoying FFXV, my first FF title, because of their business dealings. It was PS4 exclusive and I didn't wanna play it at 1080p 30 FPS on my near-launch console at the time. I knew it was temporary and coming to PC eventually, so I waited. This was followed by being Epic exclusive and the first $70 PC title, so I waited for a launch literally anywhere else and a sale. Eventually that happened with a Steam launch, woo-hoo, except by that point I didn't care as much as I did at launch and they had already given me the game as a PS+ title. Didn't really feel like buying it when I already had access, didn't ever even end up playing it, and now I have Intergrade's PS5 version as part of PS+ Extra these days for when I get around to it. In my eyes, they're kinda just standing in the way of their own sales in favor of taking whatever cash these companies are willing to offer them. I didn't buy FFXVI either, because I still have VII RI in my backlog from all that shit.

They really paid $8 million to reinvent something that already exists. Like I'm using it right now to talk shit about Bluesky.

I'll be the one to say beans, nobody else needs to do it.

According to the article @moon_crush linked, she broke a popularity record previously held by The Beatles with them.

It's basically impossible to play the game otherwise.

I remember having to install Need for Speed Carbon on a dual-boot of Windows 7 in order to play it on Windows 10 iirc because 10 made a change that broke a certain DRM and I couldn't install from disc. I assume it's similar for Most Wanted?

In addition, even if the communities are built around the same content, not every instance is the same. I explicitly avoid lemmy.ml because I've seen them ban people for criticizing China's government and discussing the genocide of the Uyghur people. As such, I appreciate having a lemmy.world variant of this community.

Enshittification of Xbox Live was day one of launch, dude. Online used to be free, nobody charged for it until Xbox did.

Literally just logged in yesterday to request my data, downloaded it today and deactivated my account. Twitter is a joke.

When I'm at home sitting around thousands of dollars of gaming hardware, I'm going to use that.

When I'm out and about with less processing power, then I retro game.

Not sure why the cost of gas matters, either, when they have no problem blowing money on Biden gas pump stickers and creating drag on their car by attaching as many Trump and US flags as possible.

Kbin has a total reputation score, but it's broken and pretty much meaningless. Downvotes will subtract reputation, but upvotes don't add to it, only "boosts" do. While I had perpetually negative reputation from that, I didn't mind, but as soon as it went positive from a single highly-boosted comment, I immediately started dropping back into old mentalities.

Guess switching over to Lemmy to use Boost might not have been such a bad thing.

Musk fired the PR team so it's automated to respond that way
