That really depends on the cat. Mine don't care whatsoever.

No, they are garbage. I block every single one I come across. Else Lemmy is nothing but an echo chamber.
Just use the 1.1.1.1 app, or on your computer (or router) change the DNS to 1.1.1.1
Indonesia is soft blocking via DNS only, very easy to bypass.
Agree. When my DVD player back in 2000 came with a bright blue power-on LED, that crap started to bother me. Sitting right under the TV, so watching anything in a darkened room means I had that fucker blinding me all the time. Nothing a little duct tape can't fix, but that's not exactly helping.
Ever since I've been actively avoiding devices where I can't dim & disable the LEDs.
Many are functionally better and of course don't have any ads, but often look utterly terrible, unfortunately.
So I read the whole thing, and it sounds like highly opinionated ramblings of one individual I never heard of, with a catchy headline to rank high in current search trends.
This "here is why" bullshit was first used by Buzzfeed and other cringe clickbait generators and should be avoided like the plague.
The cracked Sync app is going strong. They patched reddit official's api key into the apk, and also modified the app ID and browser agent to reflect the official one. They practically can't tell the traffic apart, so NSFW and everything is fully functional.
https://github.com/Liz-chan/sink-for-everyone/releases/
This has been discussed in the official reddit sync discord and the original dev, being the champ he is, even contributed to it.
Sync for Lemmy is also on the way. I never used Boost so can't tell how it compares to Sync, but I used it for >12 years and was always super happy.
Might as well plug the new /c/syncforlemmy@lemmy.world here, I guess.
Yep, we opened up, polled the users, got told to keep it closed, and down went the shutters.
I assume you are trolling, but I have indeed been to Tiananmen square, and will go to Xinjiang in October. My wife is Chinese, and her cousin works there.
I live in China. It still happens today and nobody bats an eye. I've seen a kid shit on a hospital floor 2 weeks ago, and some old guy pissing against a wall of a shopping mall just yesterday. And this is in a Tier 1 city.
You can see for yourself, the federation / defederation list is always public.
No mods required whatsoever, just get your ebooks in whichever format you can and then use https://calibre-ebook.com/ to convert them to .mobi and copy them over via cable. If possible, avoid pdf's - they can be converted, but it often looks shit. EPUB on the other hand converts with zero loss, and that's the most common format on libgen.rs and other ebook sites. If MOBI is available right away, just go for that of course. Conversion takes mere seconds though.
Since I don't buy any ebooks from Amazon directly, I've set my kindle to flight mode right after the initial setup and haven't switched it back on in over 4 years.
ELAs are not enforceable in a federated world. Once the data is copied to another instance, it falls under their domain. And in turn their admins would have to make sure their users accepted the ELA before interacting with the content mirrored from lemmy.world, and so forth. That would be the death of federated networks.
Consider all your content to be public domain by default, including private messages, because admins can access those in unencrypted form.
Coldest was -44°C when I was working as a northern lights guide in Norway. We'd always take our tour groups to areas with a high likelihood of polar activity, and once the whole coast was widely overcast so that we had to drive almost to the Finnish border. Camped out along the road towards Kilpisjärvi coming from Skibotn (company was based in Tromso).
Hottest was +45°C in Lagos, Nigeria. Used to work there as well for a good while.
Yep, for that reason I'm blocking bots individually. Ideally they'd give repost bots a separate identifier to block them specifically, but that requires the bot-dev to denominate them explicitly. Doubt many would do that.
Jerboa, until Sync is ready. Been using it 11+ years on reddit, if I can get the same UI here, I won't even know I'm on Lemmy.
Not the original commenter, but it's really simple, you just need to mix fruit and sugar in a 1:1, 2:1 or 3:1 ratio and add a splash of water, and bring it to a low boil under constant stirring with a wooden spatula. Once all sugar is dissolved, take it off the heat and stir in some gelatine (powder or sheets - if you opt for sheets, soak them in cold water for 90 secs prior). Keep stirring until the gelatine is thoroughly dissolved as well, then put it into jars, pop on the lid while steaming hot, and chuck it in cold water for a minute to create a pressure seal. Then let it fully cool down at room temperature.
For plum jam particularly, I prefer a bit higher acidity so I'll go for a 3:1 fruit to sugar ratio, but that's your call, really. If you want to add some extra flavor notes, you can throw a handful of cloves in when cooking the mix (just get them out before filling it into the jars), and then after cooking, put a cinnamon stick into the jar right before you throw it into the water. That can remain inside until you first open the jar later.
I'd suggest to experiment around at first with smaller batches to get your preferred mix, and then go all in.
Illegal where I'm at. That would irritate me to no end.
Tbh though I've quit radio shows for the most part, it's easily 30-40% commercials now. Can't be bothered with that annoyance, I'll rather stream some music or podcasts.
Yep, it's going steadily downhill. New bugs introduced, old ones unfixed.
I've moved to Liftoff for now, which is nice. As soon as Sync is available, I'll be there.
Nobody can force you to. People will probably consider you to be rude, but you do yours. I also live in a place where not tipping is customary (and in fact tipping considered to be rude) and refuse to embrace this system. I'm already annoyed by list prices excluding VAT. That's like a borderline scam.
ReadEra.
The free app is so bloody good and adfree already, I bought it just to support the developer after using it for 8 years or so.
Tried several others before and nothing comes even close.
Android, no idea if any other version exists.
Any sticker looks stupid regardless of intention.
A simple USB-C to 3.5" connector does the trick. No need for wireless headphones.
I absolutely and utterly swear by my reMarkable 2.
Large enough to display pdf's without having to scale down (which always messes up the page readability), can take notes right on the pages, even in multiple layers if I want, can draw on top, include overlays, export my notes as text or even save them within the pdf itself, etc. etc. etc.
I'm always using a vpn for the sake of living in China, not particularly fediverse related. I simply don't share anything I'm not comfortable everybody knowing regardless, just like we were told in the early days of the internet.
The date of the upload doesn't matter. What matters is the bitrate given.
9 197 kb/s vs. 11.3 Mb/s means that the FLUX release is packing >20% more image data into the file, so the picture will look crisper, contains more visual information, and is less compressed in general.
Depending on your display you might not actually notice the difference, but on a good, large HD panel you will be able to spot differences here and there, particularly when it comes to fast change of scenes, swift light/dark changes, and rapid movements.
Not currently. It's a much requested feature, but the devs aren't working on it yet, and no idea whether it's going to be prioritized in the future.
Some apps are implementing it though, and there are browser plugins (tampermonkey scripts) achieving it as well: https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/469297-block-lemmy-instances (using that myself to block lemmynsfw.com)
Ok whatever it is, the price on display is not the final price, and I feel scammed.
Calling it a coup in progress is a little premature, but that's certainly an interesting development.
Fuck no, that thing got blocked the moment I saw it. If the actual OP is not there to answer or comment on the advice received, and is fully unaware they even get replies outside of reddit, this whole thing makes zero sense.
Your example works because Getty as the copyright holder will actively pursue violations.
The instance admin has no intrinsic motivation of doing so, and certainly won't go to court on behalf of a user.
You'd be better off to finish every one of your comments with "licensed under MIT v3.0" or something.
And forcing admins to agree to terms with others before federating will lead to no federation. If I'm running an instance with no financial incentive whatsoever for the benefit of the public, the last thing I want is to get wrapped up in legal red tape. And as a layman, I couldn't possibly understood all terms with their implications and ramifications, and would require legal council to proceed. That ain't free either.
That was news 10 years ago. And Twitter fixed it within a few days.
I'm blocking each and every one of them, and just wait for the day when any app comes with a filter by instance instead of by community. I don't get the appeal with porn on social media when there are free websites entirely dedicated to it, in better quality, and with more frequent updates.
Yeah I saw the list posted somewhere, had a chuckle, and went on my merry way. There's a reason this kraken of an app is banned in the EU.
A somewhat tech savvy user can probably use App Ops and Storage Isolation to restrict all of the data and spoof the rest, but luckily I don't even feel tempted. Never got the appeal of Twitter, can't be bothered to even try Mastodon, and Threads, just no.
I don't like them one bit. Pollute the environment, make unnecessary noise, and are dangerous.
Been torrenting all through with 1337x and yts.mx despite paying for Netflix. The occasional piratebay for more obscure movies. RARBG was my favorite tracker, but sadly, they are no more.
Luckily I live in China where nobody bothers about copyright laws, so I can max out my 1gbit connection that costs me 2 full dollars a month 🙃
With Merlin (another open-wrt variant specifically for Asus routers) you can simply connect a hard drive via USB and then enable it as either FTP or SMB storage (even simultaneously).
In windows you can mount the ftp volume as a local drive, from mobile I use X-plore file manager (also via ftp), and on my Nvidia Shield I can mount it via smb and watch movies directly. 4k 10bit, no problem.
Mobile access screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/0ElHYbU
I'm using the Asus RT-AX88U with whatever Merlin firmware is current, but it's been working ever since, and straight out of the box. Other than activating the function and setting passwords, I really didn't do anything.
If you add a second account, you can tap on the arrow next to your profile and add it there, then when you open the profile view again it will show your other account with the full instance name, so... You're currently using the other one.
But I agree that it's a bit of a clumsy workaround, and they should show it somewhere (ideally even display the full username instead of just the local one).
Every domain is paid. But if you bought it from an authorized reseller who's authorization is revoked, you're still screwed. Mali is the true owner of all registered domains in its country.
Just purge reddit from your mind and be done with it.
