If you are talking about the best discourse, Lemmy is best, as long as you block Lemmygrad, Hexbear and Lemmy.ml.

I joined .ml way before the reddit API thing. It was one of the few available instances at the time.

Starting to feel really uncomfortable with all the hate towards it.

Looks like Google is the responsible one, not Firefox. Don't shoot the messenger.

It may not be the best approach but i usually just open a PR or create an issue and offer a PR.

They usually let me know if it's lacking or my approach is wrong.

There's no shame in not knowing something.

Steam or anything from Valve

Just don't update it and you'll never have to worry about new bugs. Problem solved!

The fact that this post has more up- than downvotes is already an indication, that the majority seems to agree with you.

Everybody thinks that everybody else is stupid.

I don't think OP meant to say it's easy, but fulfilling.

Users are already paying with their personal information. Paying for YouTube is like tipping your Landlord.

Unfortunately, people like this don't become CEOs.

Please correct me if i'm wrong but Automattic is the owner of WordPress.com, a company offering WordPress hosting and plugins.

Sure, they contribute a lot to the WordPress project, but they do not own it.

WordPress is free and open (unlike privately owned companies)

Thats fair but steam is such a blessing imo:

  • Its so convenient
  • linux support is huge and better than windows with some games
  • family sharing, etc..

Use a budget

Doesn't Nix OS support this out of the box?

Yup. Cancelling a subscription has to be just as easy as singing up for it.

If a recipe describes 8 cups of flour, how many grams or kilograms do i need to buy then?

Metric citizin here, nobody uses "miles" here. We just go with the metric system:

1000 metres = 1 kilometre

We use the wording from your example "i live 22 kilometres from town"

Because the child might not want pictures of themselves on the internet. Its a right to privacy thing, at least here in the EU.

There might not be any devs without that sweet google funding.

Because torrenting is strongly enforced by the law where I live, in Germany.

I have been living without YouTube for years. That includes alternative front ends too.

Although I must admit, i have a Netflix subscription which I use very actively.

Username checks out

That's a good list!

I use the same, except I use LibreWolf (privacy focused fork of FF) and VS Code instead of Firefox and Notepad++

  • using Imperial over metric system

Just as personal information is on a large scale. YouTube/Google/Alphabet chooses selling our information as their core business model. As far as I'm concerned, they "don't care" about the money they get from YouTube Premium.

Downvoting a stupid question in a no stupid questions community is just plain wrong yall.

Now treat yourself to a long vacation

What instance are you using?

I agree with you on that point: Video hosting (or more accurately: bandwidth) is extremely expensive. This is why YouTube is basically a monopoly, despite most of its users being annoyed with it (I presume).

And isolated, without the rest of Google and Alphabet, it may not be profitable, despite all of the ads it feeds us. But from my understanding, YouTube is yet another data aggregator Google uses to make money. Indirectly I bet YouTube is very valuable for Google, even if YouTube itself is not profitable.
