DMCA applies to all ISPs in the US, Google will forward notices just like any other isp. In theory they could ban you per terms of service, in practice they probably won't bother.

A VPN is $5 a month, and you'll never have to worry about even getting the notices, but I'm sure you already knew that.

Mail carriers are not idiots, they just discard the thing as trash since its obviously not an envelope... Business reply mail will only ever be paper letters, so what you actually want to do is just send whatever it is back to them with useless information or if its an actual envelope you can stuff it with glitter or shred the paper inside, its still technically "improper use" but they won't know that until its at the destination.

Pullpush is an alternative and free API for reddit, this threat/ban is based on the assumption that pullpush is using the official reddit API, and I guess that its using it exclusively through a single reddit account which they just banned.

It has to do with lawyers because they are trying to make a vague legal threat i guess, Youtube made a similar demand of invidious and sent a C&D to them for violating ToS of the Youtube API which they do not use.. So I dont think the lack of lawyers is the issue so much as lack of competent engineers who could explain to the lawyers that one does not need to use API to get content from a public website which requires no login to see contents.

4k77, 4k80, and 4k83 are the names given to the fan attempt to digitize the original 35mm film reel verisons of the star wars trilogy.

I'm sure the 2 billion+ instagram, facebook and whatsapp users will be absolutely shocked by this and stop using it /s

Now might be a great time to join the Fediverse alternative FunkWhale. I've already built up a collection of nearly 10,000 songs on mine, almost all of which i downloaded from deezer.

Is there a jellyfin sharing community on lemmy ? I ditched Plex years ago but I'd love to share my jellyfin server with folks.

PDA was probably the most common during the 90s and I think until iPhones and android, black berry phones were considered PDAs.

A lot of stuff in the 80s/90s used the suffix "dex" (after rolodex) so I could also picture something like "mobidex" or "pocket dex". Or there was netbooks so we might just call them netdex...

If you really want to fight back check out the federated alternative FunkWhale

Most likely you lose your home if you can't pay for it due to being in jail, however having a home with a mortgage and a job that pays enough and a history of paying, will all generally work in a defendants favor in terms of getting out on bail. If the court can trust you enough to be on house arrest then that's usually better for everyone.

The term you want to use is "private tracker"

MeGusta and Im pretty sure all other x265 groups aren't really considered official scene releases and usually the sources are the larger x264 scene releases. I've found that you can get the same if not better results as MeGusta encoding with a simple -cq 27 with the nvenc_h265 encoder which is reasonably fast.

A good portion of the world thats pirating media is playing it cheap junk with 10+ year old CPUs that can't handle x265, most do not have terabytes of media they just watch and delete so overall size isnt a huge issue, most likely when a new codec does become more mainstream, it won't actually mean smaller releases anyway, it will just mean better quality ones.

In the 00's the standard everyone used was 800mb DivX because thats the size CD-Rs came in, over time, going into the 2010s we got x264 releases but the targets were around 4-8gb usually and by that point the size of optical media didn't really matter since flash drives are cheap and reusable and overall internet speeds for people continues to increase as well so its more likely that when the day comes, the scene will probably coalesce around something like 8-16gb per release.

Part of me hopes they do this kinda stuff more, make the platform uninviting for developers so they can move to something better... Like IRC

According to the researchers, "A charger can be manipulated to control voice assistants via inaudible voice commands, damage devices being charged through overcharging or overheating, and bypass Qi-standard specified foreign-object-detection mechanism to damage valuable items exposed to intense magnetic fields."

So if someone swaps your Qi charger for a malicious one they can ruin your phone (or some other device it's supposed to detect as not a phone ?) and maybe execute arbitrary voice commands... 🥱

So because it depends on Nintendo libraries, valve wanted it taken down, but valve doesn't represent nintendo and the project isn't by them or on steam, so who's actually at risk of being sued and why?

If Nintendo asked the developer to stop using Nintendo stuff I'd get it, but in that case it was never legal to begin with and the developer knew they had no license to use those libraries, so why all of a sudden does the developer not want to continue at the request of valve, are they an employee of valve or something? This is super weird, its not even a nintendo IP

So like... Public messages they posed on public servers are being published...and a company other than discord is profiting from this? Oh no! I better be careful what I post on discord... Next thing you know they'll start selling Lemmy data too.

You mostly just have to use your judgment. Sites that steal names probably are just trying to cash in on ads, its not really that they are outright malicious though (not always anyway), and if youre acessing them by using prowlarr as opposed to going to the site in a dedicated tab then you probably have nothing to worry about.

All these clone sites are just using the same feeds and magnet links for sources, they have no original content so if you ad too many your results get cluttered but torrents on them shouldn't be any less safe than tpb or 1337x

Private trackers are always the way to go if you care about quality.

You can get torrents full of the archives from sites that used to host tabs for GuitarPro and pirate that software, the one downside is , its like tens of thousands of tabs so its a bit much to organize.

Songsterr seems usable to me with adblocking on, Also I often just search YouTube and find videos with tabs displayed.

I guess I'd ask where the jellyfin shares are at?

I run my own and I'd love to share it with more people

Calling out hypocrisy is not the same as defending China and TikTok.

There is two editions of them one with digital noise reduction and one without. You probably got the "No DNR" version of 4k80.

I think archive.org has both. the file/torrent name should be the same just with "DNR" instead of "No DNR"

I'd just host them in a library only visible to mom and members that would want to view it.

Also consider the unintentionally comedic value of such films, they're sometimes fun to watch just because of how bad they are.

Namecheap since I have been using them since the 00s and never had any problems.

Kodi doesn't supply streams and the addons that people make to try and integrate them are pretty much all garbage. Now if you have your own local media library, that's where kodi can shine..

Comcast can't even do symmetric speeds. I'm not sure what locations have thier best speeds but in my area, where they compete with the much more affordable but not as large coverage area offerings of fiber. The idea that they could offer even a signle gigabit level service to the majority of their customers is laughable.

I bet it did lead to a lot of confusion especially when you called up for 10GIGABITS and got offered plans in the Megabits with usage limits and overage fees and all kinds of complicated shit. I called in to cancel my service a few months back when i moved to an area with fiber again, they said "we offer gigabit too you know" and i was like , nah you kinda don't actually, but even if you did its like 3 times as expensive for just the download speeds.

Use https://dockstarter.com

Follow https://trash-guides.info/Hardlinks/How-to-setup-for/Dockstarter/

I would also suggest prowlarr instead of jackett.

If that's too hard then I think you should consider renting a seedbox that has easy one click install options for all the ARRs.

Sync and boost are doing Lemmy apps, others might follow as the fediverse grows
