It's kind of odd that they could just take random information from the internet without asking and are now treating it like a trade secret.

Because it's a large language model that parrots human information. Not particularly surprising.

I don't know about you, but I get annoyed that I still can't use NFC at checkout. It's 2023, tap to pay has been around in the US since 2016 and much longer in Europe.

I strongly advise not to do that. As others pointed out, it really is just predicting the next word. It is worth learning about how to problem solve and to recognize that the only way to become a better program is with practice. It's better to get programming advice from real people online and read the documentations for the functions and languages you are trying to use.

The FTC would like to have a word. At least they have a spine.

As a driver for one of these apps it's more of a bid than a tip. People send me bids to deliver their food and I deliver to the highest bidder. It sucks because that's not what a tip is supposed to be and the majority of the delivery fee doesn't go to the driver. That's why I don't really order from these delivery apps myself anymore.

Knowing GM they will lobby to ban Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

I have to convince every one of my friends to switch because they all use SMS/iMessage. Outside of the US, you would have to convince every one of your friends to switch from WhatsApp.

Probably because it is stupid simple to escape their ecosystem just by sideloading apps. They want to lock you down with their own OS.

But please don't give unsolicited advice about Linux. No one wants that.

An "industry standard" that Google seems to have complete control over. Sound like another failed Google messaging app.

Be sure to remember to Activate Linux after a motherboard switch!

When will any of these companies realize that they need to leave forever?

Like others have said, the community aspect of Lemmy allows me to follow things I enjoy, not people who may or may not post something I like. Additionally, even a simple algorithm that sorts content based on perceived relevancy makes it so I can see the stuff I want to see first (though someone did point out that that isn't entirely fair, but the "New" sort does provide that experience).

Are you using the AUR? The package will probably just get orphaned or the upstream will change to a duplicate repo. I don't see Yuzu or Citra going anywhere considering they are open source.

I noticed that the computer was magnetic and played with magnets around it. The hard drive was totally wiped. Now my parents could have reinstalled the operating system but they just got a new computer instead.

Not so much anymore. The SUV craze affected cop cars too.

"bank transfer"

Laughs in US.

TVs are also a product that seems to last, at least on my experience.

What?! You are doing something without a profit motive? That's impossible. 🤯🤯🤯🤯

Everyone is arguing about how they should fuel their cars, but I just want to see more electric powered transit.

No one is forcing you to use another app store. I'm sure the operating system will also allow you to turn off apps from unknown sources just like Android. More options for other people is not a bad thing. People paid for the device, they should be able to use it however they wish.

Least idiotic suburban planning.

Don't like these either, but it's a nice break from being on my feet all day.

With VT and CT on the list, it seems like a NIMBY issue.

Not a specific experience but I am more confident about contributing to discussions.

Except instead of the car being old, it is modern and fast.

Wow you just won the internet for today. 🤓

Sorry for the stupid thumbnail. It's not my video.

Oh man, I did that too. Reminded me that I should always keep a backup.

Lemmy rn definitely is a great place to post content because most content is appreciated.

Even if packages weren't broken, the fact that they make it easy to use the AUR is problematic because the AUR expects the latest packages from the Arch Repos. Often, AUR packages will break on Manjaro for that reason.

It's not doing anything other than predicting the next word. It reflects human data.

Galileo seems to be what they are calling the environment the USB boots to. This environment is moving from the XFCE desktop environment to the different KDE plasma desktop environment. These environments can both be customized, but they are very different under the hood. I imagine that you can still choose XFCE and other desktop environments from the installer.

Finally my qt6 apps have a consistent theme!

One part of it is retransmission fees. Cable channels charge an arm and a leg because they can and broadcast OTA TV networks charge a fee as well even though their signal is free with an antenna. It just gets more and more expensive as a result as long as there are customers who can tolerate it.

Before Chromebooks, my towns school system had netbooks which were pitifully slow on Windows. They installed Ubuntu instead. The netbooks still sucked, but probably sucked a lot less.

Yeah it's definitely a pro and con at the same time. More of a pro for me.
